Lol. I would believe in the time-travel theory more if I could understand the timeline behind it more, but for me I just can't piece it together right now. I need to stare at a timeline for this series for a while. Right now I'm just TIME IS BROKEN! AHHH! So I can't really add anything to it or disprove it.

Oh, so am I, but now that EMH got in touch and since I think they read here IG I think it only fair that I look at several angles and try not to treat them like they're radioactive. Lest they accuse me of dismissing their entire existences (which I don't) and thinking they all are mental patients from the 1970s
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
which I kind of do, let's face it

I am adamantly against this idea that they are in the House. This is an original story, and while they surely use lots of references and elements of other things, and have many homages, there is no way this is just a HoL fanfic. It's almost offensive to suggest it- and you are forgetting an important fact-
HOW WOULD THAT EXPLAIN ANYTHING. AT ALL. XD
It would not. I am caps-ing for humor here, but I mean think about it. Even if it was SIMPLY the House, not even a HoL story, what would that have to do with anything? Why would it have to be a part of the story? It would do nothing for the plot, merely create a loose end that would never possibly be tied up. In the end, it definitely has a lot of similarities as far as this new video, but the House never sent people to different places, just deeper into itself (wherever that may be), and Slenderman, on the other hand, seems to enjoy alien geometries. It's a normal Slenderman Mythos concept, that need not be explained by HoL.
XD

I don't think that they live in the actual House on Ash lane. I don't think anyone thinks that. Further, it is hilarious to even think that a reference to House of Leaves would explain anything at all. It would only complicate matters beyond any reasonable point.

However, I do think that HoL informs the plot of EMH on a deep level. At the very least, it seems to feature a locale with a deeply disturbing geometry[1], which changes when it has no business changing[2] and which has a curious sensitivity to the mental state of its occupants[3]. I'm not sure if there's more than that, but the concept of treachery of space[4] seems to be seeping into the story.

Of course, what we perceive as Hol references may stem from a secondary source. Silent Hill[5], for instance, Then again, they did shove the book in front of the camera in the most unsubtle act of "NOTICE THIS" I've ever seen in EMH. Clearly, they wanted us to consider HoL. How much, is where the mystery lies.

Damn, I've missed this thread and all the lovely epileptic groves. Smile

[1] The "portal" nature of doorways is, however, a feature of MH as well, so it could be said to be a feature of the Mythos.[6]
[2] The first prominent element of the inexplicable in HoL is the sudden addition of a hallway, after all.
[3] I admit, I could be wrong about this, though the fact that the objects[7] lost within the tunnels (?) return, at least in some cases, shows that the mentality behind the phenomenon is somehow aware of the natural place of, say, the knife. Provided the phenomenon has a guiding force.
[4] I assume we will know more if the EMH crew start taping tape measures to everything.
[5] Silent Hill 4's wall-holes, for instance, are in some respects dead ringers for the, ahem, slenderportals.
[6] Further, geometry that doesn't work as it should is a core motif of Lovecraftian horror, which in itself is a big inspiration to the current crop of Slenderman Mythos works.
[7] A noted feature of the inside of the House is a downright hostility towards objects. This point is rammed home in the chapter which primarily consists of an exhaustive list of things that are not in the house. Possibly implying that the House is some form of negative space. [8]
[8] Yes, the footnotes are a homage to HoL. Smile

Not adding much, still kinda mindfucked. And so loving it. Also, whoever made the "we have a rake in a house of leaves" comment is my hero.
Someone mentioned when Vinnie's phone rang in "Alex". I don't know if it's the case, but the thought alone blew my mind as much as the video itself.
Um, one more tidbit. The idea of the "76" videos. Obviously there is reason to believe they were sent, somehow, back in time. They got these videos a while back, and they concern recent events. I think we'll have to see the third one when its un-corrupted, but I think its obvious they are "counting down", i.e. 78, 77... That could put "78" in the near future, "A Day In the Life" in the near past (76?) and also create three distinct times we're dealing with here. The future where these are coming from, the present, and the 70s. The videos could conceivably continue to 75, 74, 73... Random idea mostly.
I'm starting to really wonder about Corenthal's chest of the childrens' belongings.

Sorry, his what?

If I remember correctly didn't Corenthal say in one of his letters that he kept some of the children's belongings?

Edit: Don't take my word on this, I could be mistaken.

From the 10-27-1981 letter:

Quote:
I'd better get to those photographs. (Jeffrey also wrote me a series of short-stories. Vincent and dearest ------ [redacted] were more so visual young artists. I must retrieve my old trunk with their treasures in it soon.)

In the 1981 letter, yes. He mentioned that he had a trunk of things belonging to the children, including Fairmount!Evan's photo album, among other things. He talked about trying to look through it again at some point. The idea of looking through it seemed painful to him, for obvious reasons.

EDIT: Fucking ninjas.

Oh, right! Yeah, I uh, mentioned the photo book and camera and all the kids' habits hobbies, Jeffrey's stories, Stephanie's art, the soldier etc. in the letter to Jeff to see if any mention would strike a chord. We'll see.

Maybe that chest is Jeff's desk of treasures.

So, questions we should ask:

1) What time did Vinnie receive Evan's phone call?
2) Does Jeff remember what was on the Centralia note?
3) What was the date when Evan, Jeff and Alex emerged from the basement on Baldplate?

Add to the list, laddies!

How about:
4) Do you really think it's a good idea to let Alex sleep in his room?

The idea of having a hole magically appearing and then disappearing sends up an automatic flag for me. BUTMAYBETHAT'SJUSTME

I believe he does, yes. In his notes on the video he says that the paper he found in Alex's room was, in fact, the paper he found in Centralia. I don't think he had the full page at any point.

I'd like to know Vinnie's take on how his phone got in there during Rakeparty '10 (a.k.a. "Alex"). It may be as simple as "I dunno" but I can't recall if we've heard him speak about it. And I think we need to.

Did the events of 77 - them lost, wandering near the big tree - happen during their same outing in Taking It Back, do they remember them, and if so did they just cut that from the edit for YouTube?

What is that house and the surrounding series of buildings/wrecks at Baldpate? What are those? Old park structures or something?

Why not go stay with Evan or Vinnie or at a damn motel? Are their parents an issue?
