So was Slendy shepherding her into place for her role in the prophecy, or are his plans separate but still fated by a transcendent prophecy? (I like the former, just because it's less complicated.)

I think she must have a standing role already, because she's one of the four even if she's perhaps not outright mentioned in what we've seen, unless we're interpreting it wrong which is very possible. She's been here before, they all have. The question is why, if we're reading it right, we can't account for Steph in what we've read.

Fuck it, I'll ask her just generally about it. (And then he did.)

Ahh I've been avoiding this place. I'm becoming a pretty big supporter of "it's EMH so whatever I think is going to be completely wrong but I like it that way anyways so um I know nothing" and it's working well for me.

Haven't had many brainwaves. It looks like flooding/drowning and Alex/Steph (in the and/or sense) are on the horizon? I'm really intrigued and worried about Jeff finally explaining what happened to their parents.

I just desperately want to know what happened after Linne was "sent east". The Map Corenthal had seemed to line up with the Rake stuff...and so does the dead parent stuff...but I can't seem to be able to jam the pieces together.

Maybe we're getting close to finding out about Jeff's parents, what with the twitter update?

Wonder why he was hesitant...?

Jeff: "Hey mom, can I post this picture on twitter?"
Jeff's Mom: "Not tonight, it's getting late."

Considering the woman bit it not too long ago (Vinnie says that its "been months" in the latest vid) I wouldn't be surprised if Jeff simply doesn't want to re-open that wound.

I assume he was hesitant to share material about his late mother with us on Mother's Day. Which I can totally understand.

I'm glad he did though. In keeping with EMH tradition, I got this just as soon as I stepped out of the apartment to go for snacks. (Our many Minecraft fans will perhaps appreciate that my Android was playing David Bowie's "Underground" from Labyrinth at the time. Personally I can't get into the game.)

So the first thing we know is this - apparently what we have been told about Jeff and Alex's parents is reasonably accurate and not wholly subject to Unreliable Narrator. Unlike some prior theories, the gang's families apparently did/do exist, which means we can perhaps take our EMH gang at face value as what they are; kids born in the last two decades or so who have grown and had lives and families of their own, regardless of whatever their linkage to the Corenthal children really is. So maybe we can discount time travel, at least that kind of straightforward time travel, for that moment.

I've tried to cross-reference this simple fact against what else we've got hanging, but I can't find an obvious linkage. A number of us wondered if one or both of the brothers (this iteration of them, anyway) were previously treated or visited by Corenthal himself, but I'm sure Jeff would've mentioned it were it so.

Then again, all those articles from the library tell of Corenthal visiting the families of troubled children, and murder following his visits. Except only the parents are reported deceased - never the children. That's a bit of an echo, isn't it?

In addition, I sent EMH a note after the last video suggesting they get in touch with Hamilton locals or local officials re: Corenthal's history in the area. In the '90s he was working with children and revered by the community with a high profile banquet. What did they know of him? Who did he work with, and why? Where are they now? What was his "vague" research? I don't know if I'll get an answer but I think these are questions worth noodling over.

In light of the new tweet and the surrounding mystery of how Jeff's parents actually died, I was thinking it might be interesting if they had died in a flood or drowned or something of the sort since Slendy is often associatd with water.
Eh, just a theory.

Good point. I'd been personally rejecting the time-travel hypothesis for so long that I'd forgotten that it was actually still up in the air.

Two more things about the picture: It's a photo of their reflection in a mirror, not of the people themselves. In any way significant? I think it's very possibly so, if we consider that our Hybrids+1 are reflections of the MT4, or they're all reflections of some ur-quartet. It's possible that this significance is unintentional, though, which ambiguity is kind of neat.[1]

But most important of all: Li'l Jeff was a dead ringer for Archie Andrews.[2]

Assuming he was aware of this fact, yes. But hasn't it been established that he saw a psych[iatr/olog]ist after the fire, whose name he hasn't yet remembered/learned?

An echo, and exceedingly odd. You'd think the reports would mention whether the kids were OK or mysteriously missing. It seems a sort of haze rises around people involved in the...whatever it is.

Agreed.

[1] Neat in that, among possibly other things, Jeff might be acting meaningfully without realizing he's acting meaningfully, which is exactly how somebody behaves while unknowingly fulfilling a prophecy. If this unintentionally significant action extended beyond IG Jeff to OOG Jeff, well, how meta can you get?

[2] Which would, I think, mean that Evan is Reggie and Vince is Jughead. Betty and Veronica are, as always, problematic; my intuition is to make Veronica into Jessie and let Betty become Steph. Who, then, is Jessa? She is the absent darkness, a sorrow carefully excised from the four-color representation of Riverdale through the same redaction that rendered Slender Man as the corpulent, but still hairless and be-suited, Mr. Weatherbee.

I love you.

But Evan is totally Jughead.

The real question for our fandom, though, is which one is latter-day Riverdale gay boy Kevin Keller?

You may be right, as the typically placid Jughead has been known to act swiftly and decisively when he perceives injustice or a threat to his gang. Still, there is a constant fire burning with Reggie that seems to me to have more in common with the brash, bold Evan.

Evan, however, would wear the archetypal hat much better than Vince, no doubt.

Keller is, I gather, the latest attempt to introduce the illusion of change into the unchanging, time into the timeless. As such, he, along with a host of other novelty characters, stands in for the greater world, the normalcy surrounding (but not containing?) the uncanniness that defines our group of protagonists.

I will stop, before I'm booted into the off-topic thread. But before I do: Who might Alex be? The little brother unbalances our Hybrids' scenario, becoming essential to the immediate action while standing strangely outside the mythic core. Does this mean he stands for all that is lost as scenario becomes myth?

See, Jeff, this is what happens when you tease us in the middle of a dry spell.

I will repeat the old line from Aliens again: "It must be something we haven't seen yet." But it doesn't sound good. Maybe the Alex parallel is right under our nose - one of Jeffrey's sisters from Centralia?

Quite.
