@new HABIT post in CYSTW:

I have to agree that this is becoming too predictable but... somehow that makes me feel less comfortable than something new and shocking would. It makes me feel like:

a.) the boys are trying to (meta) inform us/point us towards something that we're not getting, so they keep throwing out more hooks or...

b.) HABIT is gearing towards something we don't know.

Either way, the fact that we're getting "numb" to something a potential body-hopping, mind-hacking, rabbit-hating THING is doing makes me less comfortable than when he was burying boxes states away from his "host(s)".

Oh, no, I agree. We taunt him but I'm worried. This is different. He is preparing something.

Ah-HA so that's why I got accused of being HABIT earlier! XD

Good catch on the Animal Collective/Alex idea. Still...
About "Slushpops", that is also the video Evan posted himself, garnering the note of surprise from Jeff in the description. I always thought this was one of the biggest arrows at Evan. I still have to stick with Evan is HABIT but HABIT can jump temporarily.

I'm still cautiously guarded about Evan being a red herring.

I like the some of the counter-speculation towards Alex. A lot, actually.

But I think I'm still in the Habit is Many Splendid Things(people) camp.

I'm thinking yes. And I think HABIT has always been many.

I really hope we hear back from Evan soon. All the gang seem to really be in rough shape.

Yes to all of this. And adding that communication may have taken a good turn with the letter. HOPEFULLY.

It might have taken a good turn with regards to Jeff; Evan may not have come down from his RAGEface.

I still feel horrible about that.

Has anyone else thought of meaning as far as the geography of the "accident"? It's in the right area, but I was more focused on the date to look too much into it. qaqa I know you were all up on that.

Last night, qaqa said -- and we agreed -- that the only significance, as far as we can tell, is that it was in Rake Country and that its not surprising Alex's folks were killed where they were.

I don't regret what I said to Evan, but I do hope it got through to him and I do hope he knows we care and want to help.

I'm worried about all of them, including Jeff, because Jeff just reopened old wounds regarding his parents and admittedly lost composure. He seems so used to burying his pain that a sudden release can't be easy. So Steph is terrified, Evan is upset, Jeff is upset, Vince can't be that much better, Alex is a mess, and who knows how well they're trusting each other since HABIT took over CYSTW. We have no news on their condition.

All I could glean on the geography of the accident site was that it could well be another dot on the map that might be of "Rake incidents" - the marked maps that Jessie found among Corenthal's papers. I don't know anymore than that, but I'm still sick as a dog and pretty woozy.

edit: ninja'd

Jeff mentioned "Haven" in the letter. Is that where Alex had his lessons? Or is it something else?

Somebody--I'm too lazy to go back and look, apologies--was asking why the Rake seems to be especially targeting Jeff, or more specifically targeting Jeff's loved ones. I'm wondering if that might not go back to the Everyman Prophecy.

The Fates wrote:
"THE GUARDIAN SHALL LOSE HIS HEART AND THEN HIS BLOOD AND FIGHT TO LOSE ALL HE LOVES"

We've been assuming, IIRC, that heart=romantic love and was a condition fulfilled by the abduction of Jessa, and that blood=family ties and meant Alex was in danger. I'm wondering if we might have been barking up the wrong tree in the right forest, so to speak.

Perhaps "heart" here is less like a romantic-love heart and more like the Tin Woodsman's heart--emotions and sheer humanity and stuff. The victims--Jessa, his parents, likely Alex--aren't the heart or the blood themselves but instead were killed in order to kill off what is good and beautiful inside Jeff. (I'm thinking that the "And I can't let myself become too human" line might be intended to point us in this direction.)

The big problem with this bit of speculation is that it doesn't leave anything obvious to stand in as his blood. Maybe it's literal blood? He's so in-drawn and shell-shocked that he won't confront the Whatever directly until after he's wounded and brought back to a semblance of life? Weak, but that's what I got.

Do you think maybe he is intepreting the HABIT annotation as such, and this is an indication he's taking steps to avoid it? Also, notice the chronology of the statement "THE GUARDIAN SHALL LOSE HIS HEART AND THEN HIS BLOOD AND FIGHT TO LOSE ALL HE LOVES". That would suggest Jessa was gone before Jeff's parents, which I don't think is the case, which in turn puts Alex right back against the wall.

I think it definitely ties back to that.

It's funny that I didn't notice it before, but isn't "fight to lose all that he loves" sort of odd? One might fight with the intent to win(and lose)..but doesn't that read as he will fight, intending to lose all he loves?
