Well, that's pretty out there. For a moment I thought I was back on that Lost forum I used to read. But as with most of those theories, I think it's nothing more than an interesting little false lead.

i don't think it's that far out. shade specifically giving a password to an unreliable narrator. but who knows, maybe i'm wrong. i emailed the boys at everymanHYBRIDSPLATgmail.com with all the info i posted here anyways. can't hurt to try right.

A very interesting theory, but I don't feel like it's enough to move it from the "coincidence" pile to the "plausible" pile. Nabokov was a great novelist, but there has been no indication at all that either he or his novel have to do with this story, as opposed to, say, House of Leaves or The Summoning of Everyman. Basically all that is promising about your theory is the fact that there is a character SHADE that is unreliable. I need at least two good coincidences to give a theory creedance.

perhaps i didnt explain it well. Shade isn't the unreliable narrator, Kinbote is. In the quote from Pale Fire that i posted, Shade gives a password to the unreliable narrator. that seems pretty spot on to me.

OK, let's assume you're right. We have the word pity. What do we do with it?

Personally, I think it's very interesting and quite compelling. This story has shown a decided affinity for works of literature before--why not this one? I think it's worth pointing out to the boys, even if it turns out to be nothing.

Wait...Pale Fire...I feel like that was mentioned before in EMH, perhaps from Damsel?

What about the mediafire?

Try "pity" on it.

If they were using a four-letter word for their password, they deserve to be hacked. Do sites even allow stuff that short?

I read PF a few months ago due to its relation to HoL (and by proxy the Slenderverse). It was really boring.

And Fifty Year Sword made me want to rip my eyes out.

Hehe, books.

You fuck! You have a copy of Fifty Year Sword and you don't even like it! How did you get it?

Anyway, I have to wonder: is there anyone who is NOT part of the main Hybrid cast that has appeared in EMH at some point and not gone on to have some weird thing connected to them? Greenfeathers, Slayerboy, FRA. Jesse maybe is safe but she's related to Dr. C so... no, no she's not safe.

And let's not forget Didz gave birth to HABIT incarnate and I'm sure several of our members were devoured by the Rake, which is why they aren't seen around anymore.

Unlikely.

Yeah, I know, I know.

But what if?

Also, that connection to the pale flame seems pretty solid to me. For all the really out there theories there are, this one doesn't seem all that far-fetched. As was said, we have "Shade" and "Pity" as possible passwords to something, mediafire or otherwise. It would be safe to throw them in in all caps too, this could be Habit we're dealing with. Maybe, just maybe, this has something to do with Tribetwelve also. I'll do some looking.

Re: Pale Fire

It's really not that much of a stretch. I mean, from the structure of the note Shade has to be person, and he has to give a password to an unreliable narrator. While I'm always skeptical of these theories, Damsel's reference of it makes it much more likely.

I agree with the "what do we do with it?" part, though. "Pity" really does seem too short for literal log-in password.

Probably the same place Jeff got his. But I just reuploaded my copy in case anyone wants to take a peak and then buy it if it ever gets re-printed.

E: It's the only scan I could find and it's kinda crappy, but readable. It's over before you get annoyed.
