Well...things need to happen first. Even the things that have happened recently aren't all that important. You can't expect people to talk endlessly about nothing (unless you're referring to daytime TV) Now, if things were happening AND nobody was talking, THEN it would be safe to say EMH has lost its steam.

so ... is the current notion that this is The Smiling Man as a new entity making an entrance, or that this is actually The Man/Habit/a current player in a new iteration?

Yeah, I think the strong implication is that the smilin' dude is/was at the time Habit. Habit mentions having "met" Dawn in '57, so I think it's a fair guess that the journal entry is about Habit doing some nastiness. What I can't figure out is that the journal seems to imply that Habit was delivering her to Slender Man. Yet SM and Habit have appeared to have, if not an actively antagonistic relationship, then at least a disdainful one up to this point. Thoughts?

EDIT: How do I keep breaking through to the next page?? I feel like a good 60% of my posts end up the first post on some page or other. Perhaps I'm mistaken. Or perhaps I'm slondering the intarwebz.

I could be misremembering, but in box 5 there was an altered set of playing card. The Joker card said "HABIT" and had a big smile drawn on it. That seems like confermation that the smiling man is HABIT to me.

Smiling man is obviously the Joker.

Given that the Joker in TDK was Nolan's/Ledger's version of the cosmic power "Chaos", we could believe that HABIT is a manifestation of chaos.

Now, what did those hidden videos spell out...?

Hurm...

Considering Noah's formspring tells us he HAS been contacting the EMH guys, I'm guessing something big is at hand.

So, I'm a bit late to the party on the CYSTW post, but I'd like to make note of something. How, exactly, was the 'smiling man' killing the cops? With knives. And who else just loves knives in this series? Fucking Evan. So, from what I can see, that knife fetish isn't coincidental. Either it's a side effect from the HABIT infection, or HABIT specifically targets people like Evan to take over. Either way, it's a very obvious connection.

But yes, I agree with Rathead. The diary entry strongly implies that HABIT worked for Slender Man at some point in the past. And yet, now, they're enemies? Maybe HABIT got a bit too ambitious, and decided to try and move in on Our Tall Friend's territory?

I guess I'll reiterate my feelings on the it.

Even though there's nothing in the entry to suggest it, I don't believe that Smiling Man= HABIT.

I think Smiling Man is a since-disposed-of Slendy ~~prox~~ (sorry qaqa) possession.

I base this on my percieved timeline of when HABIT enters our current incarnation of EMH and on the "Slenderman" video(which is probably foolish)

To put up front, I believe Evan is both possessed by HABIT and Slenderman(or was being groomed for that)

Right then, as far as entering our Narrative(starting at the introduction), I don't believe HABIT comes into the picture until ADITL where Evan started acting weird(er) and we had all the transporty beach stuff. It was this point where Evan started being inHABITed(see the super awesome creepy shot when they get to the beach and Jeff/Vince was panning and we had Evan standing right there in front of the camera)

Before all that, we had previously seen Evan suffering from a pretty standard bout of Slender sickness. In the videos, namely the one in the basement, Evan seemed to be the one who noticed Slendy. Slendy showed up in Evan's house. And then we had the episode in the kitchen. With the knives. I think up until ADITL, we were dealing with a pretty standard Slendy story with Evan getting possessed and knifing up the guys(as what was suggested in the Slenderman video)

Anywho. It works with the Twitter fight. But this is pretty much 100%speculation based off of a hunch and a mostly oog video, so yeah..
