Interesting that you say that, as "detached" is exactly how I would have described the Candleverse boys.

Well yes, they do seem detached, which is why I thought of archetypes. There certainly is a sense that they are outside of events. However, what puzzles me is the cuffs. Apparently their world features a real danger of Evan going crazy. In this wise, they aren't outside of events so much as embroiled in events of their own. Viewed in this light the detachment starts looking more like a psychological coping mechanism, much like the popular interpretation of Vince's behavior in certain videos.

On a goofier note, I can't wrap my brain around how exactly Slendervision gets transferred to YouTube. Does Slendy's head have...RCA jacks? Does he do H.264 encoding? USB?

His tentacles, they work wonders.

It could fit. Everything is so focused on the Mining Town Four - perhaps someone like Alex who's outside the pattern can make a difference. Rake's interest in him could be just because he's not part of the pattern and not protected by Him. This is suggested I believe by the latest video (the segments in Vince's basement).

This being said, he seems more...broken with every passing video. He may save us all, but who's going to save him?

@re: riff on the preceding

Actually, now that I think about it, if the story is about breaking the pattern, maybe we are the spanner in the works. Cycles may happen, certainly, but there wasn't a YouTube in the seventies. Of course, there is no guarantee that our influence is positive.

To compare to see if those two adults in the morse code video are Corenthal and his wife or Jeff's parents or not, compare it to the photo in the May&June video. Also you could compare the woman voice to the voice that Ryan uses in that one video on the tape recorder too see if he can go out with the boys that one night.

Hey guys, would just like to point out that our friend Slayerboy90 - the dude that interviewed them - can see the hidden videos. Commented on --.-. about an hour ago:

Ah! I see what you mean now, thanks.

My interpretation of the cuffs is that they are either part of the archetypes or are representative of what the archetypes have become.

In the first sense, there is no archetypal Evan or HABIT, only an archetypal EvanHABIT (or, maybe more appropriately, HeAvBaInT). In the world of which ours is a shadow, HABIT and Evan are a single entity representative of a dueling nature or, like the original Jekyll and Hyde, the atavism subsumed within the civilized man. The handcuffs are a natural part of the hybrid Hybrid[1], representing the tension between, let's say, id and superego. HABIT struggles to have them removed, but his struggled is eternally doomed to failure because they are part of the dual entity's nature.

In the second sense, the Candleverse is not a Platonic realm of unmoving movers but is instead a space where archetypes continue their mythical struggles, sometimes changing the archetype. In this case, the cuffs would represent the triumph over one of the three boys over his shadow. The shadow, being undying, can only be contained and not destroyed. Here the struggle of HABIT to break free is simply representative of, er, HABIT's struggle to break free.

Ha! Lovely.

[1] Oh, criminy. Another possible meaning for the series name? Every man is a hybrid of his light and shadow self?

[Video opens as a low shot from a bed with Alex and Jeff sitting on the floor holding a bass and ukele. Their faces are cut off by the camera.]

Alex: One, two, three, four.

[Bass guitar and ukulele playing the first 9 seconds of 'Who Could Win a Rabbit'.]

[Cut to a shack like enclosure. The time appears to be evening, about an hour before the sun completely sets. The three boys are sitting on the ground around a mass of small candles which provide most of the light. The camera is held high above them. The sounds of birds chirping are loud. It is unclear who is holding the camera. We'll refer to this area as "the shack" for ease of reference.]

Jeff: Those holding up?

Evan: They're doing good. [He clinks his cuffs.]

Vince: Remember, Jeff, I've got the keys, so if anything goes down, gotta protect the package. Everyman.

[Camera pans up to reveal a yard. The camera man then pans across the shack to the back, with its missing wall overgrown with vegetation. It then quickly pans towards the front again.]

Evan: Jump in front of him.

Jeff: Throw them in the woods and run.

Evan: Hah.

Vince: Not that I don't trust you Evan. Just-

[The camera man begins walk behind Vince.]

Evan: Oh no, bro, don't worry about it man, I fuckin fully understand. You guys get the fuck out if anything slips or goes fuckin' south.

[Cut to Vincent's basement. Vince and Jeff come downstairs into camera view. Evan is holding the camera.]

Evan: What is up boys? My camera's like wha-

Vince: -what were you saying?

Jeff: -was tellin' Vin about- remember what we were talkin' about the other night about my brother and the feral thing?

Evan: Yeah.

Jeff: Well, we first saw it at the school. It seemed like he followed... Now he's back to my house.

Evan: Yeah.

Jeff: I mean- W-we were wide open at the school. How many opportunites has he- has he had us in the wide open and then targets my brother and backs off once we-we're there, once we try to intervene. I mean, we have nothing on him.

[Cut back to the shack. The camera man is in the position he walked in before, on the other side of Vince.]

Evan: Yeah, fuckin' home sweet home.

Vince: Only one thing missin'.

[Cut to a dark parking lot. The camera is very unfocused, on the ground and tilted, pointing at a dark-colored truck. The Rake crawls in front of the truck towards the camera, shuffling quickly to his side. The camera seems to make very rapid jump cuts while it crawls. The Rake lowers himself to the ground, apparently sniffing. He who sniffs and grunts at something on the floor.]

[Cut to Evan's basement.]

Daniel: So how have you guys been, alright?

Evan: No. Hahahah. Did you see my arm? It looks like fuckin'-

Jeff: Dude, sparky died, man.

Daniel: You serious.

Evan: Yeah.

Daniel: What happened?

Jeff: My brother was burying her today.

Evan: Man it's better if we just don't even--fucking-- you don't even wanna know about it dude-she got hit by a car, a very mean, very pissed off car.

[Cut back to the candle lit area.]

Vincent: That would be Steph.

Evan: Yeah.

Vincent: Has anyone- You haven't seen her?

Evan: No I haven't seen her lately. I was wonderin' about that too.

Jeff: Don't know if that's a good thing or not.

Vincent: ---- Never seems to want us together.

Jeff: Nineteen years go by... you forget... for a moment I thought it was all real.

[Cut back to the 'Vincent's basement'.]

Jeff: We saw what it did to your arm and... how's that going anyway.

Evan: It stings to say the least.

Jeff: I'm sayin' like, he had us dead to rights and he let's us get away.

Vincent: I don't want to seem like a Debbie downer here, and be the bearer of bad news, but maybe HE has a stake in us and He doesn't want this thing attacking us, and it knows.

[Cut to Steph looking down and cleaning her glasses.]

Jeff: With no idea that we were even looking for her, you know what I meanI'm sayin'

Evan: Hahaha.

Jeff: Just when you start feeling like, 'You know, I can get used to this.' [Phrase lost] that's when you know shit's about to go down, so I guess we'll see her soon enough.

Vince: Well I've had a warning the past couple weeks, I guess, I guess you can call them weeks, I don't- you know--- who knows time with wherever the fuck we are. But, uh, something big's gonna happen gentlemen, I can feel it.

Jeff: Ever ambitious.

[Cut to Jeff back in 'Vincent's basement'.]

Evan: Like uh-

Jeff: Tainted goods?

Vince: More or less, you can laugh about it, but that fucking seems like what's happening .

[Cut back to candlelit area.]

Evan: Yeah.

Vince: I just don't know what.

Evan: You've got one of those fuckin' things next to you.

Vince: Get the fuck out of there.

Jeff: Could never get used to that. Thousand mile stares.

Vince: I say let 'em watch. If he wants to have his little game -[EVAN (or Slendy?) (Probably Evan.) makes a noise]- Exactly. If he wants to have his little game, let it happen.

Evan: Speaking of games, um, I got some news from uh, the HABIT, he's starting to make this fuckin contest or some shit, in a couple of months. Think it's... think it's gonna have something to do with us.

Jeff: What?

Evan: I don't- I don't know. I don't know what he's looking to do.

Vince: He gets more and more elaborate each time we see him.

Evan: He's just as crazy.

Jeff: We know why that is.

[Back to 'Vincent's basement.']

Vince: This thing won't touch us because it knows who the boss is.

Jeff: What about my brother? It seems like he freakin targets him.

Vince: Well your brother up until this point has had no stake in this, he hasn't been with us. He's been fine.

Evan: He's had no contact with that fuckin' thing.

Vince: Like you said, we're tainted goods man.

[Candle lit area]

Evan: So I uh, I don't know if you guys know but they got the Doctor. (Some hear 'I got adopted'?]

Jeff: How long ago was that?

Evan: Five years.

[Cut to open field, balding man with dark hair, woman with red hair. Cameraman]

Man: What're you tapin' me for, tape mommy.

Woman: Tellin' 'im now?

Jeff: [Laughter]

[Cut back to 'Vincent's basement'.]

Evan: I don't like the way that fuckin' feels. Feels like there's somethin- fuck that- like something's got its hands on us? Fuck that!

Vince: Yeah.

[Cut back to candlelit area]

Evan: Yeah he put up a hell of a fight, though. The guy was a fucking champ.

Vincent: You of all people would know.

Evan: Oh shit yeah, man, right here. Boom.

Jeff: That's like 30 something years that guy trucked on.

Vincent: For us, it was all for us too.

Evan: If he didn't piss off those fucking things...

[Back to 'Vincent's basement.']

Vincent: That's what it seems more and more like. "Cause you're right, that thing could have torn us to shreds. That's all we can do.

Jeff: If we're safeguarding--

Evan: Could have- Could have, my fucking arm. [Laughter.]

Jeff: Whatever, we're not gonna let him go runnin' off anyway.

Vince: Yeah without a doubt.

Evan: Fuck that, we gotta keep a much closer eye on your brother.

Jeff: We got your arm fucked up in the process.

Vincent: It could be more than his arm next time.

Evan: It could just be the arm.

Jeff: He spent all day burying his dog. You know Sparky, she was like his only freakin' friend. I mean he has friends at school, but ever thing since that thing with my parents, you know...?

[Back to candlelit area.]

Jeff: He went down with a bang, eh?

Evan: Yeah he did, he did.

Vincent: Doesn't know when to stop.

Jeff: I expected nothing less of him. I guess when we're done with this iteration we'll have a nice little war buddy talk with him.

Vincent: Hah, except we won't be the, the uh, American legion. Fuck.

Jeff: No fuckin with that.

Vincent: It's dark though.

[Evan starts standing.]

Vincent: You alright Ev?

Evan: Yeah, no, I'm good, listen if I could have the keys that would be much appreciated.

Vincent: You can uh, we'll unlock you when we get back to the-

Jeff: Who had the keys again?

[Cut to shot of sun from underwater, someone, presumably Evan falls toward the camera from above.]

[Cut to open field.]

Jeff's Mom: When Alex is out of middle school, we'll build our cabin right in there.

[Cut to multiple forms blocking the sun from the underwater camera. The camera surfaces as there is a struggle]

[Shot of a windmill.]

Jeff: The wind stopped as soon as we got next to it.

[Back to candlelit area. Evan turns and charges Jeff, hands going for his throat as he pushes him against a wall. It is revealed to look a lot like an old cargo container.]

Evan: JUST GET THE FUCKING KEYS, JEFF!

Sorry for the length

Oh and I'm not sure if anyone has noticed this or not but I just went back to the very first EMH video and the way they introduce Evan is chopping a head of lettuce with a machete very....agresively...

@MattCSidd

Much obliged.

@Mattwan

I see where your train of thought leads, I think. It could be that the Candle Cove (which may or may not be the Ark[1]) does indeed cast shadows into our world (which may or may not be entirely shadow) but isn't a purely platonic realm[2]. Or it could be the other way round. The Candle Cove world could be a shadow cast by our world -- representing the struggles in more direct terms. One could say that as the 'real' world cycles, the various iterations all leave their shadow/groove in the Candle Cove world - hence what appears to be polycosmic awareness[3] by the boys.

Ooof. Quite a mess. Pretty, mind, and clever. But altogether too baroque, verging on rococo. Needs a good pruning with Occam's Chainsaw. Smile

@PKthe13th

That's...disputed. There was a pair of controversial videos which may or may not have been IG and which may or may not have shown something very much like the Candle Cove world. Big argument over the videos. Some acrimony. We never got to the bottom of the matter. The general not-really-a-consensus was "OOG but interesting".

[1] Actually, if we accept the iteration theory the term 'Ark' makes a lot more sense. When one iteration/world fails what needs saving is loaded onto the Ark and a new world begins.
[2] I am reminded of Anathem by Neal Stephenson with its concept of worlds being more or less platonic. Well 'purely Hylaean' to quote the book.
[3] If you forgive the turn of phrase.

If I remember correctly, handcuffs were suggested to Evan a while ago as a sort of test / safety measure. Looks like the boys listened, but considering the context, who knows how long it took them to accept that method.

Question if anybody could answer this:

Noah from Tribetwelve now has a character called Dr.C and on the envelope we have the words "We All Fall Down." Is this a crossover or just a way to get specualtion-a-brewin?

It was a crossover, albeit a brief one. I think that they were just clarifying that TT and EMH take place in the same universe and that Noah and Milo also have had contact with the Doctor as well.

After reading the transcript, I had a crazy thought:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Evan says, "You have one of those fucking things next to you" and Vince then says "Get the fuck out of here". Jeff states "Never could get used to that. Thousand mile stares" and Vince finishes with "Let em' watch"

I am sure I saw a man in a suit in the reflection, but it really could be anyone as it was pointed out. What if they are just referring to a camera and US as those watching?

I know it sounds weird and out there, but it could be... I just don't know what the implications would be
