Yeah, that was incredibly creepy. And it was fairly close to what I half-expected to happen if they viewed the videos alone with Damsel, who I suspected might not be the best control group. All of them are compromised - of course, IG you would have to expect that anyone from outside their inner circle who might have viewed the video with them would've ended up dead or disappeared before the evening was out.

I am leaning towards them being the same kids and/or reborn/slipped through time in some way, and this is all subconscious stuff being triggered. But I don't think any of them can handle being pressed on that. Or who knows. We've tried asking them leading questions about the Corenthal kids before and they tend to respond with complete ignorance. Is there another avenue, or would they be more receptive now?

I thought the acting was fine. I think it helped that they were all turned away from the camera - it puts less pressure on the amateur actors, but was also incredibly unnerving visually.

I took this time to re-watch the hidden videos. They're less unnerving now (which returns to my theory that I'm getting desensitized to this stuff).

I'm also leaning towards them being related to the past kids. Although just how I'm not certain. I like the idea that they're the SAME kids, but I don't know how that would work. (although I have plenty of theories. :3 )

edit: also, I had a theory about who the voice was in the hidden video, but I'm since totally forgotten since I had to fight with my internet.

No, if I had to choose one way or another I'd say they are the same kids, somehow, period. That's what I have always suspected. I think that when their minds are faced with something that their conscious minds can't reconcile - like the hidden footage, which they have been blocked from seeing up to now - they either regress back into their original personalities, or are directed to do so by SM's outside influence so as to be easily controlled.

Evan did not appear to shift into HABIT, which was my main fear about what might happen when they viewed these videos - or maybe he shifted into an earlier aspect of himself, before HABIT was more prominent and/or violent. Or maybe as we've speculated before, HABIT simply is his longtime alter acting in collusion, or it's an outside entity entirely. But they all behaved like the children Corenthal's letters described, who didn't get what the problem was with their 'imaginary friend' and his powers, and later, in the case of the young Evan and Vince, didn't get what the problem was with killing people.

Also, this leads me back to the question of how much interactivity we do or perhaps should have with the game. My impression is we don't necessarily have that much hand in it - I'm not complaining, I don't have a problem with that per se, but it leaves me considering what any of us should do now. Because it's been evident for quite some time that all three of the boys and now Stephanie too are under the influence of SM consciously or unconsciously. I don't think they can be trusted with sensitive information, because I think anything would just be negated or they would be shut down until such time as the big guy feels like letting them in on things, or worse, they might start splitting off and turning on each other. But of course they have to investigate and have to try to do something. Seriously, now WTF do we do?

Here's another ridiculous idea which could lead to a sea of actingFAIL complaints about how the guys would portray this, but it is the first thing that would come to mind if I were watching an actual film or TV show about this story - Have someone (Alex?) take 'em all in and have them (fake) hypnotized by a (fake) professional, and question the four of them that way.

Does that qualify as an epileptic tree? Or is the term reserved solely for batshit theories and not batshit ideas? Anyway I'm sure the hypnotist involved would end up dead in several small bags. And the mere idea is prohibitive production-wise so never mind, I am thinking on too grand a scale.

I took a look at it in GSpot and MediaInfo and both say there's an audio track there.

I mean, okay, yeah, they couldn't see them, but they tried. Need to leave off on that particular line of inquiry, obviously.

I think that some of the content of the hidden videos falls prey to the same problem as 77of76. They can't see the events that occur elsewhere/elsewhen (other dimensions, realities, whatever) until they've happened. Trying to violate some laws of spacetime make their brains bleed. We know for a fact that some of the things in the hidden videos did happen in this reality, though.

Ugh. My brain, it is melty. Gonna rewatch it and try to make some sense out of it.

ETA: There are two weird jump cuts at the very end, both when Vince is talking. The first is when he's asking if everyone is all right, it's like a second or two is cut out. Then again when he reaches over to close the laptop, there's a jump.
