Super-bruce!

Sorry ndemeter - but seeing as this Edward Maad was based in Maidstone, Kent (UK) I believe that the Banbury being referred to in the decrypted message is the one in Oxfordshire...

Just another bit of info - the content of the case page is loaded from http://www.missingwallace.net/cgi-bin/blosxom.cgi
"blosxom"?

EDIT:
pronounced 'blossom'
http://www.blosxom.com seems to be the software used to make the website?

I hope we don't need someone to go to the mines.

I didn't even know that Banbury had mines!

There used to be a mine called Westport:

All seems a bit tenuous to me....

Interestingly enough I got an email from Mr. Wallace about the code on the right edge and he said this:

Quote:
Sorry for the quality I'm not too good with phones. It is quite hard to
read, however I believe it says:

DNEGELDLTOJFBQT

Wallace.

Cool, so, using the same substitution alphabet,

DNEGELDLTOJFBQT
becomes
YMCZCUYUAKPNIDA

...so.
ROT turns up nothing.
Backwards it's:

ADINPKAUYUCZCMY

...ditto. *shrug*

ETA: I believe they used the substitution cipher (for the main message) based on the quick brown fox.

Code:
ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ
THEQUICKBROWNFXJMPSVLAZYDG

That is, the original text is the 1st row, and the cipher text is the 2nd row. Lots of original text letters not used, but it's pretty clear when analyzing

EDIT2: Corrected the date in the meta tags, thanks to cather's nudge. 04012011 is more likely DDMMYYYY, and January 4, 2011, which makes more sense Smile

EDIT3: And, after THAT correction (since N and W can't both be M), the phrase actually, I believe, reads:

Quote:
Robert,
Interesting readings near Banbury site. You might be right about the lines.
Source?

EDIT4: Final correction (hopefully) I typo'd my alphabet, haha I and J were mixed up. Fixed the above content.

Ok enough editing, new post =)
I sent off an email hoping to get info about Banbury, or the credit card statements to help with the message, and offering my help ...

Hi Wallace,
I came across your missing person case you have published at missingwallace.net, and a few friends and I believe to have the solution to the note you found on Edward's desk. Most of it, at least.

The main message seems to read:
Robert,
Interesting readings near Banbury site. You might be right about the lines.
Source?

We haven't figured out the meaning of the vertical writing on the side, but perhaps you could share a scan of the credit card statements (censored, of course!)? That might help us determine what he was referring to by "Banbury site" and "lines".

I'm at your service! Mysteries are too tempting to pass up, and anything I can do to help find Edward, just let me know!

I got the response right quick:

Anything useful I will post up as part of the case
files/blogs, of course I will credit you in the files.

Enjoy

D Wallace

dun want the credit, but I guess that means we'll see an update shortly.

OK, so I think we can safely abandon the search for mines in the UK. Wink

I got the same reply to so I'm thinking it's an auto-responder. Hopefully we can get enough UK players on-board in case this requires running around in the countryside. Alas, we, from the Colonies, would not be able to help much with that.

I know this is minor, but it bugged me. In the source the author is 0U!53.
Firefox did not like the for me, so after messing around I figured out that the was the British pound sign £.
£0U!53 = Louise, the Ex!
Again, minor, but I'm proud of myself.

Hi all. Possibly this is the mentioned "Banbury site" as some unusual magnetic readings and lines (leys) have been observered there. LINK

11 miles south-west of Banbury, near Chipping Norton, is the ancient stone circle, The Rollright Stones. LINK

I sent Louise an email about £0U!53, to say nice leet skills. I got an auto response because I sent it at 3:05P and the reply was at 3:05P.

If your query lacks any common sense whatsoever I will not be replying either via email or the blog.

Although it is possible I may post the most stupid questions and credit you, depending on my mood. Wallace won't like that but I working for free.

Do not try my patience!

d'oh. heh. the side text is the key.

DNEGELDLTOJFBQT backwards:

TQBFJOTLDLEGEND

catherwood noticed the registration for the domain is "Kent,DNE GEL" which is also LEGEND backwards.

and then TQBFJOTLD = The Quick Brown Fox Jumps Over The Lazy Dogs.
...The key to the substitution. *tsk* Razz

So methinks we have everything until an update, or some keyword prompts a new auto-response message, hopefully better than blackcat's Wink
