Uh. How?

Because the operator symbol has only been drawn by someone under intense paranoia or when trying to send a message. If Jessica just wrote the combination like four two operator symbol one then that would be lame. It would take away from the seriousness of the symbol and would be like those 10 year olds that make slender blogs and write the opera to symbol everywhere for no reason.

Jessica was quite paranoid. Entry #32 makes that clear. Those tormented by The Operator often draw Operator symbols, so it fits.

Agreed. Jessica being "OMG the thing is here and not and here and gonna get me gotta write combo down for partner is he my partner omg it's here again" and writing the symbol on the combo makes perfect sense.
