And Disney needs that. How many of their movies did really succeeded those last years ? So Tron 3 is, as far as I am concerned, very likely.

I'd just like to point out that last year Walt Disney Pictures was the first studio to ever have two films gross over a $1 Billion World Wide in the same year (Alice in Wonderland and Toy Story 3), so not to take away TRON's thunder, but Disney's far from strapped for cash.

As I mentioned before, I hope Disney actually sets The Ultimate TRON Experience at a reasonable price. It feels like so far they've been kind of exploiting the hard core TRON fans with way over priced Collector's Editions (TRON: Evolution was the worst offender, $130 for the game and a tiny light cycle model is ridiculous).

I definitely want to get this, but I'm not about to fork over anything more than $80. The Toy Story Ultimate Toy Box Collection was 10 Discs for $100, if they charge any more than $80 for this 5-Disc set I'll be mad.

yikes

I think it's safe to assume that this puppy is gonna run about $100. It seems like a nice even number considering it would be $80 plus the $20 light up disc.

Rolling Eyes

But I don't even have a blu ray, my brother does so maybe he will go halfsies.

I think it's even safer to state the price of $69.99 for the identity disc edition now, too!

$55.99 for the non-identity disc version:

I have about had it with this "Digital Copy" horseshit! We use those as drink coasters around my place. It was one thing when studios were including them in these sets as simply added "value". But now they are listing them as actual "discs" in the disc count of sets. Evil or Very Mad

And Disney just continues to shoot the middle finger at the original Tron. (OH, wait... I'm sorry... The "Original Classic".) I like how the film that started it all is just kind of tossed into these sets as almost an afterthought. How many times have you ever purchased a box set of a trilogy or series of films and had the original film listed SECOND on the box? And the art they have decided to use for the original is an insult. There you have Flynn about to throw a disc. OK, fine. But, how about the fact that he ALSO has a disc on his back? (I still maintain that some moron in marketing actually thought that was Tron. If they had wanted to use it as Flynn for the sake of Jeff Bridges, then why black out the face to where you can't even tell who it is?)

Box set is pretty tempting, but I agree, big middle-finger to the first film in the box treatment. "The Original Classic"? Because people are going to confuse Tron and Tron:Legacy? Well, I guess I can see it, I mean heck all those LOTR and Harry Potter movies are the same movie, just different film formats, right? Oh wait, they were all different films? How could people tell them apart since they had the same title...!??!

Anyways, craptastic treatment of the original not withstanding, I'm glad they are being packaged together, saves me from having to buy two different blu ray packages... Cool

Cool to see they'll include both movies.. I guess with the blue ray and 3d copy, it might be worth the 69.99... At least it's fairly future proof.

I ranted about this on twitter yesterday. I think it's utterly disgusting that Disney is forcing people to buy a 3D Blu-ray disc when only half of a handful of the population own a 3D entertainment system! Hell, we all just fully adopted Blu-ray and HDTV! I also think it's weird that they calling it "Tron: The Original Classic". Not only is that a stupid thing to call it, it's outright disrespectful to Tron fans. This whole affair is disrespectful. For those who don't want to buy the 3D disc, they're forced to forgo the digital copy and probably the special features disc. It's really unfair. The four disc combo pack should include a 2D Blu-ray, a DVD, a Digital Copy and (if there is one) a special features disc or the Tron Blu-ray. Is there an email or some way to contact Disney and tell them how disgusted I am? Probably not because all they care about is making money (which is what this whole thing is about) and screwing over the customer.

EDIT: and they're going to do the same thing later this year when they release The Lion King on Blu-ray. Now, I don't know about everyone else here, but I've been waiting a long time for The Lion King on Blu-ray and most likely, I'll be forced to buy a 3D Blu-ray disc combo pack. I was under the impression that they were going to rerelease TLK in 3D theaters, and I was even hoping they would convert it to IMAX 3D. But no, they're "rereleasing" it on 3D Blu-ray. What a joke.

EDIT 2: More info has become available about the special features on the Tron Legacy Blu-ray. And listed on Amazon as one of them is "The Next Day: Flynn Lives Revealed" [BD Exclusive- Interactive bonus piece] - What happens immediately following the end of the movie? What is Flynn Lives and who is responsible for their efforts?" So this so called "teaser" for Tron 3 is actually not a teaser at all, just an epilogue for Legacy

I will agree that the whole "TRON: The Original Classic" title treatment is a bit annoying, but as for the whole 3D vs. 2D Blu-Ray it's actually not as big of a deal as you're making it out to be. If you don't want to mess with the 3D blu-ray, you aren't losing anything by buying the two-disc edition; all the features will be on the single Blu-Ray Disc, and if you use the free software called HandBrake you can rip your own digital copy straight off the DVD (which I personally prefer because you can adjust the settings to your liking rather than just having the default that Disney gives you).

I will say though, that the 5-Disc (Non-Ultimate) Edition is probably the best deal, because you're spending about as much as it would cost to get the 2-Disc Editions of both TRON and TRON: Legacy and you're getting the 3D Blu-Ray and Digital Copy added in. Besides, just because you have the movie on 3D Blu-Ray doesn't mean you have to go out and buy a whole new TV Wink

That's my whole issue. Of course you aren't going to go out and buy a new TV just to watch one movie in 3D. You're being forced to buy an unnecessary, extra disc that should be sold separately! It just isn't fair and it isn't right. That's all I'm saying. You're shelling out an extra $28 for a disc you (most likely) can't use.

My point is that you really aren't spending any extra money for it. Right now, on Amazon.com the 2-Disc (Non-3D) Editions of TRON and TRON: Legacy are $27.99 each. The 5-Disc (Non-Ulitmate) Edition comes with all the same stuff plus the TRON: Legacy on 3D Blu-Ray and the Digital Copy disc for literally one more penny ($55.99). Disney's not forcing you to pay more for any extra, unnecessary disc, they're simply throwing it in as a bonus to try to encourage you to eventually invest in a new 3D system. Now you could call that manipulating the customer, or you could call it smart business; I'm going with the latter because you aren't losing anything by buying the 5-Disc Edition.

EDIT: I just double checked, and the same story goes for the list price. The 5-Disc Edition is still only $0.01 more expensive than buying both of the individual 2-Disc Editions.

I wish that the DVD version would have the FL featurette. I know they aren't marketing to me since I watch most, if not all, of my movies on my laptop which does not play Blu-ray but it makes me sad. I love all the added content of special sets. Throw those of us who can't keep a big tv and disk player a bone!

But I am looking forward to watching the special features, especially if RAM shows up. I'll have to hope my bro's roommate gets T:L since he's the only person with a Blu-ray player I know.

And here I thought I'd gotten the running "trontrontrontrontron" out of my brain. Smile
