[META] ANNOUNCEMENT TO POSTERS Please Read

First off, I'd like to apologise for my hypocrisy in making this post, but some things are just getting too out of hand that I had to say something. Alright. We've repeatedly had problems with people posting every new bit of speculation in its own thread. For the love of everything good and neatly organised, please do not do this. It clutters thw forum and makes it harder to keep up with for people new to the story, as well as being chronologically confusing for those who want to backtrack. If you need to post new ideas general to the series, please post those in the Game Discussion thread. If your post is specific to a certain video, post that in the thread dedicated to that particular video. And finally, if it is an off-topic post, or not related directly to circumstances in the series, please post that in the [OT] thread that conforms most closely to the subject on which you wish to post. Do NOT make a new thread for something like this. It makes the job of our moderator harder, and it clutters the board with something that will likely not last five pages. Such things to not endear you to the rest of us, and cause more trouble than they're worth.

Please, people, use some common sense and common decency and everything will run far more smoothly because of it. Thank you.

Well, the problem is that MH brings in a lot of new members to UF [myself included]. Not everyone wants to look through every post in every thread and not everyone is used to forum rules. These things will happen no matter what just because MH is STILL bringing new people in everyday.

Also, I think some new users don't realize the difference between "New Topic" and "Post Reply".

"Post Reply" will add your comments to the existing thread and should be used even when it is not directly a reply to the previous post.

The "Subject" field will designate the topic for a comment in the thread.

"New Topic" on the other hand creates a new thread.

In the case that you don't want to screen through pages and pages, Stevie, there is always the Search Forums Function which seems to work pretty well. Smile

Also, to newbies who might be feeling put off: don't get too worried about posting. If you're posting in the continuation of the trailhead or the OT threads, we won't bite! I mean, some people might trout you if you bring something up... but it seems that most of those folks aren't around at the moment. XD And anyways, fresh eyes can bring fresh insights, so it's not that we don't want to hear from you!

Actually, when we made a new trailhead, someone posted an index of all... 300+... pages.... Shocked

@ Stevie, yes, I know that these things will happen, but this thread is an attempt to tell the newbies how this forum is supposed to work. Anyway, as lifegospel says, there is an index of 300 pages should you need to look something up there. And as common courtesy, I'd expect most of us would not trout you if you brought up information from the original trailhead, as that's been retired. In the beginning, the majority of us can and did read through or at least skim the Trailhead, so it shouldn't be much different with the Game Discussion.

But yes, newbies means that we're spreading the word, and that's always good, so don't be discouraged. Actually, my announcement was mostly directed toward the people who repeatedly post stuff in new threads, even after being told several times not to. It gets especially grating when this stuff could easily be put in the main chatter thread. It doesn't hurt to remind people, though, but don't take it too hard either.

Yeah, you new guys! I was a new guy scarcely a month ago!

Just jump right into the main chatter thread, after you take the first plunge into the conversation it's easy to keep talking, and sharing and all that cool jazz.

And then your love for MH grows until it consumes your life and your soul... Laughing

I just opened a new topic but I felt it was justified, in that, after much searching, and an attempt at opening the discussion in the regular game discussion thread, there is still no singular place to discuss whether the teleportation theory is indeed confirmed. There is discussion of it in both trailhead and entry specific things, but I wanted to discuss it in a broader "everything we've seen so far, not just entry 24" way. If you feel like that was a bad choice on my part, please let me know and I'll remove it.

D'oh, I already tossed up that huge pro/con jabber in the trailhead continuation. >_> It seems kind of redundant to find it and c/v it over to the new thread. Don't know if I can dredge up any new points on my own, either.

Why can't the mods just delete the spam topics/combine them all? Like, every single one at once. How long would it take?

I'm not a mod in this section so I will give a general answer from my personal experience. I think you are asking the wrong question. Of course, the mods can delete topics, and do it pretty quickly. What you might want to consider is why the mods deliberately, and sometimes with a great deal of self-restraint, refrain from deleting topics. The quick answer is that we want to preserve the history of the discussion and, more importantly, try to interfere in the collaborative process as little as possible.

Again, this is a brief comment on what can be a long meta discussion about the nature of ARGs.

By the way, actual spam is deleted.
