Ha - maybe it's a tape recorder that's the source of our "blue can/lion on it" mp3 audio file.

It definitely looks like a cassette tape player/recorder from the time period. I'd guess the cord is from a microphone (it looks like he is laying on one)

Looks like a Walkman or other portable cassette player/recorder, those were just starting to blow up in the late 70's so it seems likely to me. I don't think he grabs at it for protection or anything like that, just trying to grab on to anything as he's pulled back I think.

EDIT - Plus, he's a teenager working in a convenience store, and this is a film, so he's probably got headphones in (so as to miss the obvious thumping around of a bad guy) and he's either a total retard or a misunderstood dude, probably total retard since it looks like he's gonna get killed off.

Walkman or Transistor Radio

Could it be a Transistor Radio or one of the earliest tape walkman? also what is that image right underneath him? is that part of the device or his head phones?

See me, my first thought was that maybe it was a tape recorder, and the man grabbing on to it was grabbing it because maybe it had some sort of evidence on it of what was happening right before him, and I think that what ever is pulling him down that aisle is doing it because "Do not speak of this. If you do, they will find you.".

shattered glass

That's no camera store he's in, so more than one place gets its windows shattered in the movie. Not sure which store this is supposed to be, but it doesn't look like the 7 Eleven store they modified for the movie (that had the Rocket Poppeteers stand-up). It could be the store across the street from the camera store, but I'm not sure.

Or it could just be broken glass from something in the store like a freezer door...

kids running up the hill

Can someone post a copy of the scene with the kids running up the hill in the neighborhood at night? It looks like the army is shooting at them; in fact, if you see the home movies posted by the people who watched the filming of that scene, the soldiers are chasing after them and the tanks smash the playground right behind them... now there could be something chasing the kids that the army is shooting at, but don't you think that's shooting too close to kids?
I don't see any alien in that scene, but perhaps it's not completed yet.
It reminds me of the cops chasing the kids in ET - sort of... just a bit more intense

In the shot with the guy on being pulled on the floor, above his back you can see a magazine rack. I think this scene was done in LA , not the Weirton/Lillian 7-11, but I have a pic of a magazine rack from the Weirton set. A few of the magazines include some interesting stories. Time and the Popular Science on the upper rack have stories dealing with energy. The Life magazine has a story about 12 who walked on the moon. The Outdoor Life talks about Pennsylvania trout Cool and Connecticut shad – but nothing about rare coelacanth. Most of them seem to be in the right time period, except the New Profile at the bottom right corner, which talks about internet voting, downloading books, and the new infidelity: office affairs and internet hookups. Thought I'd post the pic for anyone who's interested. I also included some other set pics I have that are related to some of the trailer scenes.

Looks like a Walkman or other portable cassette player/recorder, those were just starting to blow up in the late 70's so it seems likely to me. I don't think he grabs at it for protection or anything like that, just trying to grab on to anything as he's pulled back I think.

Frame-by-frame, the cord appears to be split leading back to his head, which leads me to believe it leads to headphones instead of a microphone. As suspected, it's probably some type of Walkman/cassette gear.

Also, running it back and forth, he doesn't appear to grab for it specifically. He's just clutching at the ground while being yanked backwards. A few frames show a blur of the cord in between his hand and the camera. I think the cord starts to drag the cassette player back with him, then the phones may dislodge from his ears as he suddenly seems to pull back faster than the Walkman does in the last frames. But really hard to tell convincingly with this short snippet.

not really adding to the clues with much depth,

but when the camera first falls over the 8second mark you can see that the kids have improvised a boom-mic with attached headphones...just thought it was clever, thought out for kids to be making a movie

Perhaps the entire trailer is what was supposes to be in the film containers Josh had. A message meant to be left behind.

Btw, has anyone investigated or figured out why the colors are shifted in the Paramount logo?

It caught my eye from the moment it aired but I'm not sure what to make of it? Anyone here knowledgeable enough about graphics/colors to gain any clue about how the colors have been shifted away from the logo's original balance... and what that might mean.

My first thought was: it looks like a black light clue. TRON LEGACY ARG flashbacks. Cool
