First Trailhead email

Just got this today.

I do apologiz(e) for my rudeness. I hope I'm not bothering anyone who would rather be left alone. If you find this letter to be a waste of your time then by all means you should promptly discard
it and accept all due apologies from me. But if you do have a moment, I would like to e{x}tend you an invitation.

Inte[r]ested?

Good. I'd like to invite you to join me in playing a game. I promise it will be ever so exciting and full of surprises, and I <h>appen to know that playing games is an interest of yours. Of (c)ourse, you don't absolutely need to join in. You're welcome to put this letter down right now and get on with your life. But if you do find yourself intrigued by my little... proposition, then perhaps you might consider dropping by and saying hell{o}. We would all be over[j]oyed to see you; although you're already terribly late.

You see, the playing field has been waiting a long time for the players to take their positions, and the game has been waiting to begin. Waiting on a person who wants to fill in a vital role. That person just might be you. Of course it also might not. The more important <q>uestion is; would you like to find out, or w8uld you rather (j)u{s}t... wait?

I'm not feeling up to following up on this, but figured others might be interested.

I may be in.

The video link is http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=exrhcojq_js if I got it right, but it says that the video just has been uploaded and will be available in some time.

yep, got it too, and to be clear, the message for that video code says

The video you have requested is not available.
If you have recently uploaded this video, you may need to wait a few minutes for the video to process.
Sorry about that.

Which is the same for any non-existent video. So. yup.

If that's not a typo, then _ could be 8.

However, YouTube video IDs are also case sensitive. Question

Yes they are.

So far i have tried these :

(brackets indicate which set of letters has been majored)

Code:
(e){x}[r]<h>(c){o}[j]<q>_(j){s}

exrhcojq_js

ExrhCojq_Js ()

eXrhcOjq_jS {}

exRhcoJq_js []

exrHcojQ_js <>

EXrhCOjq_JS () + {}

ExRhCoJq_Js () + []

ExrHCojQ_Js () + <>

eXRhcOJq_jS {} + []

eXrHcOjQ_jS {} + <>

exRHcoJQ_js [] + <>

EXRhCOJq_JS () + {} + []

EXrHCOjQ_JS () + {} + <>

ExRHCoJQ_Js () + [] + <>

eXRHcOJQ_jS {} + [] + <>

EXRHCOJQ_JS () + {} + [] + <>

I guess we could still try replacing _ with an 8 but _ is also valid in youtube video ids...

It would seem to me that the randomness of uppercase and lowercase letters in U-Tube url's would seem to make the mathematical probability of the uploader actually getting a url that would work out this way pretty low.

That would leave me to believe that the "8" might have some purpose here.

I will reply to the e-mail and see if the PM is willing to provide a nudge.

If someone could make a capitalization permutation generator it'd be trivial to check them all instantaneously using any batch youtube programs as most of them will simply give an error if a video doesn't exist while downloading those that do.

Okay... Anyone know what Sikh could mean? As far I can tell, it's a religion, and the root word has nothing to do with numbers. "Six" seems far too obvious, though. Anyone have an idea?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sikh

Also. I'm thinking that maybe the numbers are the time, so the date might be encoded in the gauge's (the one on the top with the rabbit) URL. Weird thing: when I open the image directly, it doesn't have the "4 months until Alice dies" text on it. Try it. Maybe it need to be embedded from that blog to work?

EDIT: Never mind. The text is white, and I was viewing it on a white background... Embarassed

Got it. From the ticker's URL, the date is
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
20110525, or May 25th, 2011. Meaning, it's literally 4 months to the day.

So the time would be placed at
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
9:10 and 1? seconds
... The ? being indicated by Sikh. Whatever that is.

I got the email too. Which is amusing, considering how long I've mostly been out of the ARG scene. But this one's drawn me back.

Looking back over some of the older entries on Alice's blog now, one thing jumps out at me: The recording of the static from her radio. I can hear vague whispering sounds in there, but I have neither the programs/equipment or the skill necessary to do any kind of editing to investigate. Anybody better at that sort of thing want to take a whack at it?
