Ummmm, if it's an abandoned building how are you going to get in?! And don't you think it'll be a little dangerous??

I think the state abandoned the hospital but the city or county is still involved. The Otter Tail County Historical Society still conducts walking tours per the bottom of their website.
www.otchs.org/planYourTour.html
Some of the smaller buildings have been sold and there's a project in the works to turn the big Kirkbride building into a rehabilitation center for returning veterans according to this news story:
www.fergusfallsjournal.com/2011/01/19/vets-center-meeting-set/
There are lots of pictures by laurapalmer813 at this livejournal.com site:

It looks like a cross between the settings for One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest and The Shining. I wouldn't be surprised if Jack Nicholson showed up in one of the pics.

Oh hon I was just making ties where there might not be.. I DO NOT suggest anyone trying to get in to the building in a unlawful way.
I just meant as a game player if I lived near this place I would love to tour it.

D-12 referrence So we've established with complete certaionty that this building IS the place of interest? Is there anything else around that is PUBLIC that may more accessible to others? And the D-12 reference bugs me. Anyone familiar with dewey decimal and library coding? Is that a viable idea?

@Jane
Well, the choice of live event places is very important for such high scale projects as one by Spielberg and Abrams. And even if they choose some abandoned/weird places, they should be always save.
Like that unique place they used for live events in Star Trek ARG, as they led players to Tacheles in Berlin.
Well, not really abandone, but pretty unique:

http://merzmensch.blogspot.com/2009/04/star-trek-erster-kontakt-naja-fast.html
(sorry for spaming you with my blog, hehe).
Anyway, as far as I can see, this hospital is "still party in use" (http://www.kirkbridebuildings.com/buildings/fergusfalls/), so it is perhaps the right place for thrilling, but not really dangerous place.
Just think about all liability PMs have to assume, if they send people to haunted houses, lol.

Too much emphasis on needing to get to the hospital? And what is the RP connection with all of this? I don't see the PMs wanting all of us Rocket Puppeteers invading a location, whether abandoned, or where tours are conducted, looking for clues.
There should/will be a connection with this location and the ARG, but that is for us to connect the dots and see where they lead.
We have finally been thrown some bones and with the scans (perhaps) of the comic and it's relevance we'll have more to chew on.
One of the most puzzling things for me is where does RP fit in to Josh/his father/Mysterio segment of the ARG?
A troubling thought is that RP is the faction of the government seeking Josh's dad, and in some obscure way RP is conceiving a plan to use us to locate Josh's father (and perhaps Josh). How they could do that is yet to be seen, but if there is not a connection, what is RP for? Just a sub-plot? It doesn't seem JJ to me.

Maybe this alternative energy source is needed to fuel RP SSF1 rocket. So when it's found, the fleets will be able to take off. We're being used by the powers that be behind RP to help find it. Just an idea.

well, I see here parallels with "kaitei no mitsu " from Cloverfield ARG:
* an unknown source of energy
* used for many reasons and goals (perhaps as ingridiend of Rocket Poppeteers? like Kaitei no mitsu was ingredient of Slusho)
* can cause something like "out of control" like dancing grannies as beta tester for Slusho by Tagruato (see press-info by tagruato )
* can be very dangerous, see consequences of eating Kaitei no mitsu by Jamie:
versus
Short, perhaps here is involved an unknown but dangerous energy, and somebody want to get it (financial interests? megalomaniacal world domination plans? your turn)

I will be near Fergus Falls next weekend, I will take a look. But we should try to figure out what the other numbers mean first.

The "other" map markers I just scribbled on this one so don't pull it apart to much
But I guess the main questions are:
What is the little doodad in front of the FFSH?
What are the significance of the DASH and OLIVES ( . ) "I like to call them"
Is the S circled and offset? and is it for a reason?
Comparing this map to a real map is the hospital located on the X or is this something else near the hospital?
That location having significance with the numbers #1.89 and 12.68?

well i diddent see any one else post this http://ksax.com/article/stories/S1908467.shtml?cat=10230 seems the place has been purchased on the 5th of this month this is a bit of a coincident is it not maybe jj and co have borrowed it for a few weeks befor redevelopment starts
also apparently it was sold on Craiglist
August 30th, 2010
A Kirkbride on Craiglist
Just thought it was worth noting that the former Fergus Falls State Hospital campus is being offered for sale on Craigslist: $1 Historic Fergus Falls State Hospital. Alhough I have a hard time believing its fair market value (as the ad states), $1 is quite a bargain. It's too bad "a plan for development and proof of private development capital is also required."

The Campus Development Group in that story bought two of the not so big buildings on the property. The massive Kirkbride building wasn't sold. That's what I was talking about in my post above. Fergus Falls is working on a project to convert it into a rehabilitation center for returning veterans. http://www.fergusfallsjournal.com/2011/01/19/vets-center-meeting-set/
