Thank you Rocket Mountaineer and everybody analysing this comic. I like this way of updates!

P.S. OK, reading this comic I understood now: the cubes are "space squares".
And "Vitas Relic" is a planet.

At least in the comic world.

Just read the PS you added - I was about to post a similar mention of Vitas Relic being a planet in this comic. It doesn't make sense that it would be a planet in the Josh Minker ARG - does it?

I was thinking maybe we have some sort of alternative universes situation between the Minker ARG, RP, and maybe even the S8 movie - where we may have similar items or people and names in each but with different characteristics and circumstances in the different universes.

Yes, you are right. Since the scientists in the comic seem to be an allusion to "real" persons from the ARG. Perhaps it's kind of "interpretation" of some happenings in the Joshs world by somebody, who knew a lot about it? I mean, since Rocket Poppeteers seem really to be very deep into the story.

And: the comic story is very propaganda-esque (Cold war alike). So we need to take the story with some appropriate distance, but in the same time we shouldn't mark it as "just a scifi comic".

Ah, I like such reality twists. Hehe, like the Empire magazin already wrote:

You're on the right track here, the comic is allusion to the events around 1963 which is documented in the editing room footage. The Super 8 insert comic is the discovery and acquisition story, this comic alludes to the testing and betrayal story that caused Minker Sr. and others to go underground. The comic speaks of the techs being in the poppeteer institution which correlates to the Area 51 lab. We might want to start a list of equivalents between the comic and what we know of the backstory:

Space squares = cubes
poppeteer institution = Area 51 lab
Rogue scientists = the lab techs

I think it's a good possibility. It has tentacley arms, as can seen (sort of) in some of the trailers. It seems like it would be a Neville Page creation...

I also believe that the Kladrog is our monster. I think I saw a mouth like that in some of the tv spots during the gas station attack. That's a really scary monster too. Razz

Well, hes shown us everything else in the comics already, ..
'I must admit I am kinda surprised at how much has been revealed before the opening.. JJ makes such an effort to keep this thing under wraps for months and then spills alotta the beans a few weeks before the release..
He did say in one of those earlier interviews that he might have to market this movie aggressively due to the summer competition, lack of big stars and such.. Maybe thats whats up here..?

In a perfect world where the "money man" aka Mr. Studio.. does not control your future production/ life/ movies.. you could keep everything till the SURPRISE !!!!!!

But in this day and age and believe it or not economy... Rolling Eyes

When they say jump..your ass better ask how high.

JJ is just a man with a family like the rest of us..genius film guy or not and if he wants to continue producing his art for the masses, he must feed the pig like us all.

uhhh.. I mean ..i dunno....maybe i'm wrong

<crazy

Jane, you are completely correct.
It would be naive to see in JJ Abrams only a magician. He is also businessman, otherwise he couldn't present his magical skills in this world, which is dominated by mainstream, money and conventionality.

He can win in this mediocre world, but for it he also has to fight i.e. to make marketing [sometimes |not*always| against the mainstream]. Not only gratis stuff for us.

Between this and the Super 8 comic, we get quite a lot of the backstory. I do believe this is part of a more aggressive marketing plan. If you look at the movies coming up for release, it would make sense to relieve a bit more than would be usual for JJ. Showing a big scary space alien, unusual alien technology, 1960s coldwar intrigue would be just the thing to drum up interest in this move. A comic book drawing of the alien isn't that much of a reveal, just that it will be in line with what we expect from Cloverfield experience. The movie alien will be big and scary, and a comic book rendition won't diminish that at all.

yes but, the only people that are probably going to see that photo are people like me, you, and the people who religiously look at super 8 updates(Who are going to see the film regardless). not the casual movie goer. JJ knows this and he's probably tricking us a little.

This is true. Looks like we are still in the mystery box until showtime.
