Font

Can anyone see if they can find the Font that was used to make the Metacortech/Metacortex Name.

Someone who has deSWFed/decoded it might see it. But then again creating the swf might just render the font as an object.

Anyone?

Hey guys.

Let me just say what a fabulous group of people are present here. You astound me with the speed that you solve the puzzles. Amazing Shocked .

I was thinking of a name and feel that it should center around metacortex, since this was the first stepping stone in thia ARG.

Dissecting the word metacortex, meta means higher, or more in-depth, like a meta-language. Cortex means outer layer (or so i believe). Why not have a name which means metacortex? like elevated coatings, or higher layers? Hmmm Rolling Eyes . Or maybe minature-containers, tribute to little-boxes? Confused Sounds dumb...

Anyway, i also like wearemissing

Keep up the good work!

Actually, cortex refers to a section of the brain. So metacortex means transcending the brain. Now, as for Metacortechs... cor means with, and tech obviously means technology, so Metacortechs means transcending with technology. Put it all together and you get transcending the brain with technology, which I just find really cool. Not that it has anything to do with a name, I just wanted to point out the full definition...

I'm in pharmacy school, so let me comment on this cortex thing.

Actually, cortex does mean outer layer. You're refering to cerebral cortex which means the outer layer of the brain. Other organs have cortices (cortexes) like the adrenal cortex (outer layer of the adrenal gland) and the renal cortex (outer layer of the kidney). A definition of cortex, "the outer portion of an organ, such as the kidney, as distinguished from the inner, or medullary, portion."

And meta is a prefix meaning "after, behind" it can also mean "joint action, sharing". This, and the other definition, is from Stedman's Medical Dictionary.

So the definition of metacortex would be "sharing the outer layer" or "behind the outer layer". The latter definition is interesting to me. It would mean that Metacortex was just a facade, concealing something behind it, which is, after all, the definition of the Matrix. The rabbit hole is deep, indeed.

If we put ourselves in direct opposition to Metacortex, then our name would be Corticoemphraxis, which means obstruction of the cortex. Making a hole from the inner layer to the outer layer would be a medulocorticostomy. So we could be the Medullocorticostomers. Viewing the inner layer would be medulloscopy. So we could be the Medulloscopers.
-EDIT Corrected spelling

Just "Emphraxis" would be a cool name, though, if Corticoemphraxis is too long.
Good name for the group IMO.

So another way to say "Metacortex" is "out of our minds"?

Yeah, that's about right.

My new favorite name suggestion is "Emphraxis Group". It sounds like it belongs in the world of the ARG and it positions us against MetaCortex.

Oh, cool. Okee dokey, I stand corrected. I was using plain old dictionary.com. Very Happy I guess you learn something new every day. With this game, it's been quite a bit more than that...
[whine] What really stinks is that I'm so exhausted and busy that, with all the lovely spec-fodder coming out, this is still one of the only threads I've posted in or thoroughly read recently. Heh...ugh, I seriously envy those of you who are doing this from "work." [/whine]

I like the sound of Emphraxis! Also the thought put into the name is quite fitting for this game Smile

I like that too. Though I am worried it sounds like it should be the name of some disputed planet in a Next Generation episode. Very Happy

The "Emphraxis" idea is one of my new favourites!
