I like that too. Though I am worried it sounds like it should be the name of some disputed planet in a Next Generation episode. Very Happy

I like it too. Emphraxis... Rolls off the Tongue. But maybe needs another word to pound it away "CORE Emphraxis".

Kudos to FlaninTheFace
If we put ourselves in direct opposition to Metacortex, then our name would be Corticoemphraxis, which means obstruction of the cortex.

What do you think? Caps just to emphasize what I added. I thought about Meta Emphraxis, but I think that's too many sylables.

What does Emphraxis mean once you remove the "Cortico"? I'm worried it means "Obstruction." It definitely is the best, most well-thought-out name so far, however.

Yeah, it does mean obstruction. But it sounds cool.

I think "Emphraxis Group" or something like it would be the way to go. Maybe "Emphraxis Medullary". Maybe that's too hard to say. Anyway, that makes it kind of like Alternate Research Group, and we could use it in game.

Someone could send an e-mail like "This is Pattie Vernon of Emphraxis Group and I have information on Jesse". (Pattie Vernon is an anagram of paintover.net)

I'm thinking maybe something Latin? Emphraxis __[insert Latin word here]___

Or, perhaps Diluo Emphraxis? Diluo means to remove or resolve, so Diluo Emphraxis would mean roughly to remove/resolve obstruction? (Sorry, I don't know Latin Smile )

Maybe Explico Emphraxis or Emphraxis Explico (to undo, uncoil)?

Maybe "Peragro Emphraxis"? Peragro means to to search through, to traverse, and I think that really fits our seemingly endless search for clues and such.

Or possibly "Perquiro Emphraxis", where perquiro means to make a diligent search for, or to examine. Basically the same thing, but one might sound cooler than another (but I can't be the judge of that Wink ).

Also, I'm no Latin expert, so I'm not too sure about the context of these words. Please feel free to correct me if needed.

Just so long as you don't write it in Lorem Ipsum.

Wow - 11 pages of name stuff!

Iīm with Briīs "Core Techs" or Omnieīs "SporkBenders" - the former because itīs short and to the point, and hints at the game without rubbing it in, the latter because itīs funny...

To me the "meta-" lead-in has all the marks of a buzzword, and I hate those - sure it is kinda cool, but, well, in an un-cool way...make sense? Probably not.

Party on, CoreTechs/Sporkers!

I still like Emphraxis or Emphrasix Group even if you add a word before it. I like "remove obstructions" because now that makes more sense with our group.

Personally, I wouldn't want a comical name, like Sporkbenders, because I think we should remain in the tone of the game. Even though that is pretty funny. Smile

Think of it this way... one day, Wired or something might be doing an article about this whole thing. Do you really want them to say, "A group of players called the Sporkbenders solved the puzzle in two days!" Hehe...

Seriously, though, I like the idea, I just don't like the word Peripheral. It makes me think of keyboards, printers, and mouses.

How about something besides peripheral?

Of course, as usual, I don't have any good suggestions Razz

I agree with bakntime that Peripheral isn't the jazziest word you could use, but Collective does have a nice ring to it. It could be combined with FlanInTheFace's Emphraxis, but then again, awkwardly translated, The Emphraxis Collective, albeit jazzy Wink would be like a bunch of people working on bowel-obstructions or something Very Happy

Awkward translations aside, this gives us a few more possibilities:

- The Emphraxis Collective
- The Meta-Emphraxis Collective
- The Meta Collective (meaning 'A group of people openly working to a common goal that is 'beyond'... nice Smile )
- The Emphraxers

Hmm... core or nucleus springs to mind... not much to work with though Confused

We've already put so much thought into this dadgum thread, I'm afraid nothing we think of will sound very cool or organic. How about this - let's take some time off from trying to name ourselves, and wait for the answer to present itself? I have a feeling someone will accidentally say something cool, maybe even a few weeks from now, and when it happens, everyone will just know it's the right word. Everyone's trying so hard to be clever and piquant that it all sounds forced to me right now.
