Yep, I appreciate your work with the pictures, as well as all contributors. I don't have PS or Flickr or any of necessary components to get these puzzles put together. It's nice to have multiple people work the pictures and post them... some see things that others don't and everyone works together to get them right.

Seconded!

BTW kelwhite01- You can play too:

Windows: prtscrn button and powerpoint
Mac - Grab and keynote (or similar)

-->Both have crop, rotate and adjust image level options which is all you need

Thanks guys. Also, I guess I missed the part about the viewmaster. Great investigation! I am so stoked! RP PDFs sent to emails now... things have to blast off now!

I'm not sure but the sphere on the BW photo could be small tesla coil (like this one http://hackedgadgets.com/wp-content/2/mini_acrylic_tesla_coil_1.JPG)
You can even see something like small sparks on the bottom of the sphere .

I also wonder what is gun like tool on pictures with cube. It looks very short (it is lying on its front) so it can't be torch or soldering iron. But it is probably irreveleant (but it could be something that the guy on sphere photo is using)

edit: It just come to me that it could be Super8 camera - but wasn't able to find any model looking similar

This can't really be a Viewmaster can it?

"While a View-Master disk holds 14 film slides, these really are only seven pairs, making up the seven stereoscopic images; two film slides are viewed simultaneously, one for each eye, thus simulating binocular depth perception."

Some of these groupings require four slides to get the whole picture. Are these for the alien to take home as a souvenir, payment for being the star in JJ's film?

I like the idea of it being a Viewmaster but I don't think that's what it is. Wouldn't the pictures that are grouped together all need to be the same size? We have a few that are just two pictures making a rectangle and the Viewfinder pictures are all sort of square.

Lol, 14 pictures = 7 depth of field pics in a viewmaster.

MAYBE 14 pic clues = 7 double layer pics.

Now that would be inventive!

I concur with Chainsaw--

There are currently six 4-segment pics, and of the 3 dot triangle pics where the aforementioned are in the corners, there is still the "stop sign" 2 pic, and the black and white pics where the lab worker's hand is next to the handheld gizmo.

Looks like more coming to me...

A while back when I was talking (theoretically) about using the ViewMaster as a possible in-story method of hiding/sharing photo evidence, I certainly never considered that the photos would be used IN the ViewMaster stereoscopic format. Just that the actual photo discs could be re-engineered to contain desired photos instead, rather like how microfiche was used to store data at the time, only nowhere near that small. And a ViewMaster/disc could sit around a boy's room without ever attracting attention, yet the photos could literally be hiding in plain sight.

Just a wild idea, but a fun possibility to explore. Indeed, anyone using this method would never waste the disc space by including stereoscopic pairs of images unless there were some specific 3D information to be shared. Since SUPER 8 isn't in 3D, I'm guessing that's not the case.

Indeed, the corner markers definitely imply the pictures must be viewed outside the VM format. At least they're not LiteBrite patterns! Laughing

Ha, I recalled that movie with Cage (was it National Tresure?)
There was a map, which you could only understand with anaglyph-glasses. Or am I wrong about it? I've seen it while ago...

Maybe there's some kind of stereographic device that can be mounted to the PDP-11. Then we can view these pictures there somehow and see another layer.
This is an excerpt from the bottom of a web page credited to Frank da Cruz at Columbia University at
http://www.columbia.edu/acis/history/pdp11.html :

Quote:
I had had a job for a while at Mount Sinai Hospital in NYC in the early 1970s, working on PDP-11s with DOS/Batch.
...let the doctor … take a stereo X-ray of the area, dash over to the computer lab, where we would "scan" the X-rays; the software would create a 3D model, display it on a storage tube, and then the doctor interacts with the graphic (using a light pen) …

Or maybe the pics are just a diversion to keep us busy while we wait for the main event. I guess they're giving us a little back story if nothing else - but it seems like there must be more to it than just looking at someone's slideshow.

I agree, I think they are just giving up something to do while other plans come into affect...

A few deeper clues and then trailer 3 in March and leads to something else IG.

More than likely a new URL with some more back story.
