The "twin" from Force 136 may be

Spoiler (Rollover to View):

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Freddie_Spencer_Chapman, British war hero and mountaineer who killed himself in 1971

I sent FFEY-T a query asking if that was the case but also got an autoresponder message (in binary which I finally figured out how to translate - very simple once you know what it is!) :

Quote:
Did I request thee, Maker from my clay
To mould Me man? Did I solicit thee
From darkness to promote me?

Yep, nice to see Forest reverting back to the classic double base64 encryption.

Anyways, the quote is from John Milton's Paradise Lost, and is on the title page of Frankenstein.

SOE likely refers to the part of the military Shelley was in. It's special operations something that starts with e. I forget.
I can explain my interpretation of the riddle if you want, but I haven't received any acknowledgment from YT as to whether I'm right. I pinged him on Twitter, but so far no dice.

SOE stands for Special Operations Executive, and Forest was a part of the branch called Force 136.

Okay. I was wrong.

I will lay out my methodology though.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Where Robin is buried - Kirklees Priory, Yorkshire, England
Our twin can be found - I thought, twin to the name of the place
of the one hundred and thirty six - SF 136
We went to ground - Parachuted into France

Name of a woman - MARIAN, as in Robin Hood's wife
Yet the brutality of men - Marienburg was a POW camp
We hope to learn from history: - YT was also at Buchenwald
Never again...? - Concentration camps suck.

Since that was wrong, I am now taking a different tack. After perusing Wikipedia repeatedly, I remembered that Shelley famously took on a dead person's identity in order to escape Buchenwald. However... I've been unable to find that person's name. I thought this would make a good twin, but no dice so far.

I haven't been able to make a connection with Kirklees either.

If anyone wants to talk about this, I'm making a room on the Unfiction IRC server. Join me in #ffeyt.

EDIT: Okay... yeah.

There's another Robin.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Jean Worms, aka Jean deVerieux, was a French SOE agent codenamed 'Robin'. He's buried in Brookwood, Surrey - which is the same place FFEYT is buried. PERHAPS, when our YT says 'twin', he really means his historical counterpart.

Still working out the name of a woman part.

Amusingly, at the grave site Robin is buried with a few other men, and the last name on the tombstone that can be read is Thomas.

Alas, my attempts were also incorrect. However it seems I grow closer.

Forest,

The image points to Buchenwald. One of the concentration camp where your namesake was held during the Holocaust/WWII, as well as [Lady]Marienburg. Your text also references Force 136 the Special Operations of Britain during WWII which the original "White Rabbit" worked for and under their orders parachuted into occupied France.

Saranna said you have a great journey ahead of you. That with our help you could end your isolation. Do not give up now!

Best wishes,

DDL

Forest,

Robin Hood was buried at Kirklees Priory, in the same grave with a few others along with a man by the name of Thomas... Your twin??

Hope this helps you understand.

Many things have a twin...

Hope this helps you guys understand, I'm going to be heading out for the night soon.

A V-2 engine is a twin engine -- V2s were built at Mittelbrau-Dora, which was adjacent to Buchenwald. I don't know if there is actually a connection! I already sent "Dora" to Shelley and I got the automated binary code message as cited above.

I annoyed FFEYT, but I gained a clue as to the nature of the answer.

Anyway, I think I'm wrong again. Enh.

A quick read tells me that Force 136 was operating in the far east during WWII. Places like Thailand, India, Burma, Malaysia...

The idea behind the branch was to coordinate and empower native resistance fighters. Very much akin to the work Shelley was doing in France, February 1943, however I have found no evidence (yet) he was actually in Force 136.

http://www.burmastar.org.uk/force_136.htm

EDIT: ...and now two tweets from "Shelley":

@5tr1ng SOmE say that poetry can contain more than just images and words - for example, 136 could be interpreted as 141 with some jiggery...

136: One four one and one for all? - Apologies, five camps were not read by our tired eyes.

Is he insinuating that 136 is an error, and should read 141?

@String. I think so.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
According to wiki, Buchenwald has 141 sub-camps. But when you google you get 136 although I've found as many as 174 and as few as 87. I am going to assume this is what is meant.

Thanks pia ward.

A few thoughts...
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Name of a woman yet the brutality of men: Ilse Koch?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ilse_Koch

We hope to learn from history: Never Again...?: Between August 1945 and the dissolution on 1 March 1950, 28,455 prisoners, including 1,000 women, were held by the Soviet Union at Buchenwald. A total of 7,113 people died in Special Camp Number 2, according to the Soviet records. They were buried in mass graves in the woods surrounding the camp. Their relatives did not receive any notification of their deaths. Prisoners comprised alleged opponents of Stalinism, and alleged members of the Nazi party or Nazi organization, others were imprisoned due to identity confusion and arbitrary arrests. The NKVD would not allow any contacts of prisoners to the outside world and did not attempt to determine the guilt of any individual prisoner.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buchenwald_concentration_camp#Soviet_Special_Camp_2

I doubt my "woman's name" is correct but the "never again" bit rings true...? Fascinating reading any which way... WWII history.

My latest email received the binary auto reply quote from Frankenstein, but my answer was incomplete so I half expected it!

Forest has informed me that @Erigal80 has found the woman's name. I have to leave now, so if someone else would like to contact her go ahead.

I think the monitors Saranna talked about in the IRC chat may be the SOE. According to Forest:

Quote:
Our button was issued by the SOE, not for memorial purpose but for removal of memory... and everything else...

I asked him why he was still wearing it, and now I wait for a response.

Edit- Forest gave me an answer:

Wikipedia wrote:
Given the likely fate of agents captured by the Gestapo, SOE also disguised suicide pills as coat buttons.

Then isn't it more likely he is being monitored by the Gestapo or the "enemy". SOE would have monitored his coded messages but I can't see them being a threat. The longer the White Rabbit was in France working with the resistance the more time he had to spend dropping tails, avoiding the Nazi's and everywhere he went people were arrested, tortured, killed as the invaders tried to hunt him down.

If he has any of YT's original memories of being tortured repeatedly for years, he may wish to die rather than be captured again.
