Alright I sent this e-mail to F.F.E. Y-T-

Quote:
The word is spreading that you are looking for friends.
I will be thinking of you.

U0dWdGIzSnlhR0ZuYVc1bklHbHpJR0VnYzJ4dmR5QjNZWGtnZEc4Z1pHbGxEUTBODQ==

U0dWdGIzSnlhR0ZuYVc1bklHbHpJR0VnYzJ4dmR5QjNZWGtnZEc4Z1pHbGxEUTBODQ== when translated with the Base64 method is "Hemorrhaging is a slow way to die"

A reference I made to the original F.F.E. Y-T's cause of death.

The reply was:

Quote:
YUhSMGNEb3ZMM05vWld4c1pYbHpaMmh2YzNRdVltOWtiR1ZwWVc0dWIzZ3VZV011ZFdzdlpHOXRZV2x1Y3k5emFHVnNiR1Y1YzJkb2IzTjBMbUp2Wkd4bGFXRnVMbTk0TG1GakxuVnJMM

As you can see, I have friends already - I am looking for something more now.
Are you up to the challenge?

F.F.E. Y-T

Not sure of the significance of the picture that the link he gave me leads to, but it looks rather interesting. He also seems to be showing a great interest in the Shelley family and if I am remembering correctly Lord Byron was a family friend.

Edit: Here's something interesting. When involved with the Gestapo the original F.F.E. Y-T went under the alias of Shelley.

Jumping onboard

Definitely ready for a new ARG, and this one looks intriguing, so I followed his Twitter account, using @pbemaddy, my main game account. He in turn followed me immediately... a good sign he is actively recruiting.

Alas, my knowledge of British poetry is sketchy. However, one asset I do have is a wife who is really into WWII history.

Interested to see where this may lead.

Forest and I have been continuing our running poetry battle. Again, he seems particularly inclined to @reply to whatever I tweet, regardless of whether I have directed it at him or not. Which is fine. I switched to Rumi on him, but he's sticking to his guns with Shelley.

I didn't know the real FFEYT went by Shelley. That's a nice touch. I like it. And yeah, Lord Byron was a personal friend of Shelley and his wife, the author of Frankenstein.

Looking forward to the 26th!

Nice! recieved a reply from our friend:

(base64 dual layer. very long string.this is trans.)
A thousand mourners deck the pomp of death
To-day, the breathing marble glows above
To decorate its memory, and tongues
Are busy of its life; to-morrow, worms
In silence and in darkness seize their prey.

Another Shelley quote then. I also noticed that the article he sent you was written by a woman by the name of Shelly Barclay.

Other than the nickname does anyone else see any connection's of F.F.E. Y-T to Shelley? I don't have a twitter account, but has anyone tried sending him some poetry by Lord Byron? That might get an interesting response.

I told myself I'd never get a Twitter account...

Gah... Now look at me... I get one to follow a fictional character...
I must be going insane...

EDIT: Why can't we use md5 hashes? Base 64 looks too much like gibberish....

MD5 is one way encryption; Base-64 isn't. Smile

my efforts thus far

Okay, first I sent a Tweet using a line from Tennyson, which got a quick response - but I think I'd annoyed him by making a word play out of it. Next, a quote from Shelley - no response, at least not yet. Then taking a hint from the posts above, I just now sent a Lord Byron quote which was encoded in Base 64. (Google is a good friend in these things for sure!) The last was by Private Message Tweet - though don't know whether he's into those or prefers e-mails. Will post again if/when I get a response. Play on!

By the way, even though Puppet Masters aren't supposed to post here with a player alias, it's usually safe to assume they do monitor our discussions.

Lord Byron

His friendship with Shelley was a good lead; I got a surprising response to my recent message!

If anyone wants to confab behind the scenes, please follow @pbemaddy on Twitter. Although some prefer posting here with that Spoiler red block thingy, at the moment anyway I'd prefer employing private message Tweets with those serious conspirators... more fun and easier. No one will be refused a 'follow' but on the other hand, why make it too easy for those just idly scrolling anonymously through these blogs?

So earlier I got a reply from F.F.E. Y-T that said
Quote:
Are you up to the challenge?

My reply was:

"Always up for a challenge, VTJobGJHeGxlUTA9DQ==! What exactly are you looking for?"

VTJobGJHeGxlUTA9DQ== decodes to Shelley.

His next reply:
Quote:
Myself personally? Nothing.
Myself and my friends - ah, another time, when the waters run in the street, on the 26th. Not until then.
But for calling me by my other name, you deserve something in reward:

131

Enjoy the Qs it raises...

F.F.E.Y-T

Still unsure what these waters are that he mentions. A past event related to F.F.E.Y-T? Or a past event related to the Shelley family? More likely, I am going to guess that whatever causes this to start on the 26th will be related to it. It would seem that right now his main goal is to gather players.

So- 131? Anyone got an idea?

Edit: Totally separate, but since he and I both are using yahoo accounts I can see his Yahoo Pulse. He put up a picture of a White Rabbit on the 15 of February, and his comment implied that I need to zoom in. When doing so I saw text in one of the eyes that when decoded the usual way read
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
when?

Sent him an e-mail about it, will have to see what he says in reply.

131 could be a page number, he seems fond enough of prose.

Just me fooling around, but I found this list of William Godwin's correspondences and then this letter, which is supposedly on page 131 of Mary Shelley's "draft of a life of Godwin". The last lines are the only things that seem like they could be related...

Sorry if this is all very elementary, I've never participated in an ARG before Laughing Just a lurker hoping to join your ranks. Have patience with me!

Welcome aboard, Mildmay!

Intriguing... good research! We can certainly use "all hands on deck" in ARG's. Thanks for joining our ranks.

F.F.E.Y-T sometimes went under the codename Shelley when he was parachuted into France.
