Going back a bit, but:

The recurring theme with illusions seems to be that they don't fool cameras. Cases in point:

0. The visual tear seems to occur whenever the Operator arrives in the location. It doesn't seem to happen when he's already there.

1. Entry #5. We never see anything of the Operator, but the camera seems to pick up his presence (and the distortion gets worse whenever something connected to fire or water is mentioned).

2. Entry #12. The entire cast sees the Operator standing and watching them while on set. None of them seem to notice that he's 12 feet tall and doesn't have a face, but the recording clearly shows this.

3. Entry #17. Nobody notices that the Operator is clearly visible outside the window, but the camera shows him, and reacts when he's provoked (possibly by Tim drinking the water).

There's a couple of other possible examples, particularly in Entry #2, where Alex says he saw a "really tall guy", but doesn't seem to have noticed anything unusual about him beyond his effect on the dog.

The camera shows Jessica at all times, with only incidental distortion at key points when she speaks or does certain things, which is more likely to be related to the proximity of/ the disturbance of the Operator. Based on this, it's highly unlikely she's an illusion.

This. This explains so much stuff, like why the camera is portrayed with an operator symbol or two on the lens (it reveals the lack of face), and, like you said, why nobody notices the lack of face on the Operator in entries 2 and 12. And why Alex films himself and looks out windows with cameras and why various people don't see the Operator when it should be obvious that he's there. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if this was completely accurate.

Another thing that your reference to the dog made me think of, although off topic:
Dunno if this has been brought up before, but the dog can see through the Operator's disguise, and Noah's ark housed animals... not sure what that would imply the ark would be, but it's at least interesting to think about

Hiya there everyone, this is my first post on this site and I've got a few points I'd like to say Smile

1) My own formed theory about Jessica is that she is totheark, and thus working in collusion with TiMasky. She makes the videos, some indeed involving our masked friend, to terrorise J and try to possible recruit him for 'the ark', whatever that may be.

2) I can certainly see what shonkie is saying. definitely looks as though Slendy is sitting on the bed. This could (possibly) add strength to my Jessica=totheark theory, if totheark and TiMasky are doing some sort of bidding for Slenderman.

3) Yes Valadar917, she is cute.

I'm pretty sure that's a lamp.

People have speculated about Slendy being in the background of these shots before and the general consensus reached was that he's not. It's highly unlikely he would be; there's no point putting him there unless he's pretty clearly visible (always has been in the past).
The problem with shots like this is that, if you're looking for something and hoping/expecting to see it, you end up assigning shapes to random patterns of shadow and digital guff.

Not to put you down - it's that kind of attention to detail you need for ARGs! Smile

It seems doubtful that the "ark" is connected to Noah's Ark, at least not by that logic. It sort of flies in the face of the fact that the camera is how Alex and J detect the Operator's presence, and not animals. Perhaps the detail about the dog is just there to emphasize how otherworldly the figure is? It probably isn't plot-relevant, in any case.
Alex seems to realize the Operator's around due to hearing the audio distortion from his camera in entry 8 - we hear the audio cut out, but Alex had removed audio from earlier clips that must have been heavily distorted, such as entries 1 and 4, so it seems very likely he would have done that here.
Also, I may be dumb/noob, but in what situations have there been people who haven't noticed the Operator when he's clearly there? Maybe I'm missing something myself; in entry 17 I didn't notice the Operator standing outside until it was pointed out to me.
It seems likely to me that Alex is filming himself and looking out windows with his camera simply because he has come to recognize that for some reason cameras remove much of the Operator's potency. It's clear he's becoming paranoid on top of that, so they both ought to add up to him taking his camera everywhere with him and essentially using it as a set of eyes. Plus, all the situations I'm aware of in which people have seen the Operator directly had him either obscured or at a distance. If they hadn't the slightest inclination to believe it was anything but a human, then they would probably act exactly as they did.
