[OOG] The Love/Hate approach to Marble Hornets
Somthing I've noticed of late

I may be the only one noticing this but, while I do adore the Marble Hornets series and while I do think it is frankly astonishingly well done given how frightening it is compared to the production values (a sharpied mask, a mannequin with pipe arms, not exactly hollywood effects here.) I also hate it at the same time because its made me paranoid and jumpy about somthing that doesn't and in fact could not possibly exist. Its not helped by the fact that the man who lives over the road from me is a tall man who wears suits, also given how common place the Operator symbol is, not good times for one as jumpy as me.

Anyone else suffering from a simillar predicament?

Nope not anymore. While I find the videos creepy as hell, I'm not as paranoid anymore as when I first started watching the entries. The main reason for this is me discovering Troy blog/youtube + involvement in this forums. I can't be scared of the operator because I know Troy made him, and how can I be scared of something made up by this:

I kind of have to agree with NewInTown2. The moment the immersion was broken it stopped being as creepy.

Slendy in general I still find creepy, but not any particular series. I just can't get into them any more because my brain instantly goes "This isn't real" but I continue to watch Marble Hornets because it brought me into the mythos and so I feel like I have to watch it until the end.

It's the reason I've tried to dip into other series, but never stay too long. My immersion is forever ruined by finding this forum and it just stops my getting into anything.

I used to be ridiculously creeped out by Slenderman/The Operator, but then I just got over it. I'll admit, sometimes I'll think I see a certain tall, faceless stalker at my window, but I kind of enjoy the scare.

Besides, even if he/it did exist, just knowing the kind of mischief Troseph gets into wouldn't really allow me to take him seriously anyway.

I don't think my immersion has been broken. Sure it certainly not as bad as when I first started watching it and I would see him everywhere and be extremely paranoid for months but there are moments when I jump back. Also through all the sillyness marble hornets managed to still scare me (Entry 46).

They do not own a mannequin. They've been clear on this.

That said, no, I'm no where NEAR as scared of MH as I used to be. Entry 18 was almost literally pants-shittingly scary, even in daytime.

But, I also used to be a paranoid little bastard (still am, but less so), so that may have had an effect on it.

I still love MH for all it's worth, and the funny things Troy and Joseph do effect the immersion of the series as much as an actor in a Hollywood horror film that's also been in a comedy movie. It's not that bad.

I have a brain. Therefore, my immersion is not broken by the other awesome video projects Troy makes.

I am more along the middle of the line in regards to how immersed I get these days. Every time a new entry comes up I turn off the lights wait until it's like 3 in the morning and put on my headphones and it feels nice to actually be frightened by something. but after a while I get over it and soon enough start analyzing the video and incorporating the information I got from it into the compendium of speculation. To me that means the fear is no longer there because I trying to learn how instead of being afraid of "what".

Wait, wut?

I'm not saying Troy/Joseph don't make awesome videos, they do. But for me the full immersion is broken once you know who made it and his other, more hilarious, work.

I;m pretty sure he means he chooses to ignore it, like I do, when I see a video, I just zone back in to the story, I don't think about Troy or Joseph ect. until I'm done, or in the forum.

To me it sounded like he told me I was brainless for not liking Troy's other work.

Not that he isn't right about being brainless if you don't like it Laughing

The only time I couldn't do that was when Jay went ALEX C'MON RUN.
