Shocked Am antsy those slushy-overlords make the townsfolk decide themselves who to give up. And who's waiting at the lake?

SNOWTOWN
EMAIL WITH RUTHIE

Quick update. Have sent a couple of emails to Ruthie to warn her Peg may be on to her running around late at night.
Sorry, I know I am not posting correctly, but I am havng a hell of a time trying to post. Please help

Hello Ruthie,

Just wanted you to be aware that I think Peg may be on to you. You might want to be very careful tonight. I think she may have something planned for you. Let me know if I can help.

Concerned,

Teri

Subject: RE: concerned citizen

Dear Teri,

Are you referring to Peg Harmon? Peg is "on to me"? Not to worry, Teri, I am not up to anything suspicious in nature. I can't imagine what Peg could be thinking.

Are you a citizen of Snow Town? How do you know so much about Peg Harmon?

Ruthie,

I wish I was a citizen of Snow Town, it sure does seem more interesting than where I live. I just happened apon her blog one day while I was bored and have been reading ever since. I am also a big hugh fan of your book club so when I saw the posts about her watching you, I became concerned. She now has a you tube video of you running through the snow mounds. I believe you when you say there is no ill intentions on your part. Just be careful, I dont trust this Peg.

Sincerely
Teri.

All is well, Teri! The Snow People have returned to Snow Town!

I received a response from ruthie. I am not sure if my approach will bring anything. we will ahve to see what happens tonight.

Ruthie,

I am so excited to see the library's new website. What a wonderful way to communicate with like minded people. I have recently found myself drawn to Snow Town from Illinois. It is too easy to lose who you really are in a big city, coming to Snow Town is like coming Home. I was wondering if you had any advice or guidance for new residents, or could help me get in touch with the Proper people. I very much would like to meet more of my Snow Town Family.

Allen B.

-------------------------------------------------------
Dear Allen,

What is your definition of "proper people"? You refer to your Snow Town family? Do you have relatives in Snow Town? Are you related to the Harmon, Hoskins or Haynes families?

-------------------------------------------------------------------
Allen B to Ruthie

My mother's maiden name was Haynes. But I was told she died during childbirth, and I was raised by my father's family. No one would talk about my mother's family. It was like the topic was Taboo! They wouldn't even tell me anything about her. It is a hard thing for me to talk about, and I know very little about what is true.

What I do know, is that when I learned about Snow Town, I felt an instant connection. Learning that the Haynes family was one of the founding families only confirmed that connection.

I really want be put in touch with those that REALLY know the family's history. Not what is written in some history book, but what it REALLY means to be Snow Town family and not an just an outsider. I have felt like a lost soul for far too long, I want to know what it means to be HOME.

--------------------------------------------------------------
Dear Allen,

I understand the need to connect with your roots. I will speak with Clare Haynes Triplet about you. She might be the best resource for information about the Haynes family tree.

And....Yikes! This is gonna be tougher than rolling a snow ball up a hill.

Did she give you a way to contact the historical society? None of my recent emails to characters have gained responses, and this is one of the things I asked for.

I'm not usually one to say I told you so but... I TOLD YOU SO! Razz

On a side note, Perhaps we should try and find a way to get in touch with Natasha Triplet, She was around the last time this happend, Even though she was young - Perhaps she could shed some light about what happened the last time this occurred?

EDIT:

Bit of a long shot, But I sent Ruthie this email..

Hey there Ruthie, Me again!

As I may have mentioned I'm a computing student! The new semester is just around the corner for my ethical hacking course, I've been looking into some reading materials but can't find anything relevant.

I was hoping to find a book on cyphers and decoding encryption, Do you - Or anyone at the library know anything about such things? Who would be the best person to talk to guide me in the right direction?

Thank you for your time.

Looks like Ruthie is either optimistic by all this, or trying to make others excited as a measure of damage control - if she needs one of them to sacrifice themselves then there will be many lies.

Crome, I agree it would be good to talk to Natasha, but I don't know how - she's unlikely to be on email.

Last night (UK time/pre snow people) I sent an email to Edward, trying various combinations of EdwardSPLATsnowtownlibrary.org, all of which were returned.

I ended up copying my email into one to Ruthie, who has just responded, saying she has passed it on to Edaward who promised he would reply shortly. will edit this in s minute and copy in the exact emails for completeness.

EDIT:

Ruthie,

Hi, how are you doing with all this weather happening?

I was wondering if you could kindly pass this request onto Edward. I did try emailing him with an address formatted like yours, at the library, but I guess although the historical society has a page, he doesn't have an email address with you. Or maybe you yourself could help.

I will copy in the email, as I attempted to send it, so my apologies that it is addressed again:

Hi Edward,

Thank you so much for posting the town map on the library site, and for starting the history society page on the same.

As a very new resident in the town, I know few people to ask, but as I have a keen interest in history, I was wondering if you could provide me with any reading material pertaining to the history of the local area? Anything at all about the founding of the town, the initial settlement, or about the area pre Snow Town, per se?

I understand there will be books in the library, but I am currently recouperating from injury, and in the current inclement weather, am finding it difficult to move around too much, but finding I have a lot of time to kill which would be better filled with reading than with picking at my stitches!!

I hope this finds you, as I'm going on the format of Ruthie's address, and guessing you will have one too! Many thanks in advance for anything you can tell me, or provide me with,

Wil.

I'm pretty sure this is new on the Library website: if you scroll down to the bottom of the events page it says - in bold -:

Quote:
Mission Statement

The Snow Town Library provides multiple opportunities for people of all ages to have access to written, visual and audio resources in a welcoming, learning environment.

Ruthie Randolph

I've also always wondered about the mention of Louise Hoskins fighting censorship
Quote:
Louise was a true believer and early adapter of the Librarian Code of Ethics. Intellectual freedom came first with Louise, and she famously defeated many attempts to censor Snow Town Library's collection of books.

In an earlier response Ruthie told me
Quote:
She most certainly defended Snow Town Library's collection of books and periodicals several times. Guided by their ignorance, Snow Town citizens once attempted to keep The Dial Magazine out of the Snow Town Library. Although devoted to politics and literature in the late 1800's, some citizens continued to claim the magazine was associated with the devil.

So I'm wondering if we are meant to ask Ruthie for a particular book or journal from the vault and invoke the Librarian Code of Ethics to make her share information with us that she (and other townsfolk) might not otherwise want to share?

EDIT: I've emailed her to try and get a response along these lines.

Just noticed that Peg has replied to a message I left on her blog http://www.snowtown.me/?p=278
She's brought something back from the lake - a "surprise" - and is now going to Ruthie's town hall meeting - Lawrence is staying behind to edit and upload the video they took with the "surprise" information.

Like Private and Ruthie, Peg is now in happy high spirits.... which just unnerves me more. Can't help thinking they're like lambs to the slaughter.

EDIT - just got a response from Ruthie.

Quote:
Dear Ruthie,

I suppose you are very busy, however I really do need some more information about Louise Hoskins, Snow Town history, and local myths and legends. I understand that the library has a vault in which the most relevant documents are kept. I also understand that the Librarian Code of Ethics, that your much admired aunt lived by, states:

1. It is imperative that librarians remain unbiased when presenting research findings to the customer. While that may sometimes be difficult, the librarian's role is to provide access to information, and that includes information that may go against personal belief systems, it is not the librarian's job to filter the information or present it in a way that emphasizes one point of view over another.

2. Librarians should avoid censorship in all forms. As the keepers and organizers of information, librarians must ensure that all information is accessible to patrons, to the extent that is possible.

Please make the materials available so that I and others may review it. I believe Peg would be interested in seeing these texts first hand, and I would appreciate a digitised copy.

Kind regards,

Luci

Quote:
Dear Luci,

I am sending your Electronic Mail to Edward Harmon. The Library Vault is actually watched over and cared for by the Historical Society. It is only called the Library Vault due to the fact that it is in the Library's basement. I am a small cog in the large Historical Society wheel. Of course, my daily presence at the library often makes me the gatekeeper, but, ultimately, it does not fall under my jurisdiction. You should know the items in the Vault are not the property of the Snow Town Library. They are the property of the Snow Town Historical Society.

If there is something in the Library you would like to reserve, I would be happy to help you.

A crowd is gathering in the main room. I must go to deliver my announcement.
