Literally just woken up...to this news of buckets and cassettes.

First thing "the magician" made me think of is a Somerset maugham novel about a magician who is based on alisdair crowley....will dig out my copy today and have a flick through in case there's anything to connect it....

Book of Solomon - Guestbook posts

I think Luci is onto something by focusing on the Book of Wisdom that Ruthie quotes in her email signature:

Quote:
And, thinking back on the Book of Wisdom http://forums.unfiction.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=810110#810110

It's all seeking out God, about justice, punishment of the wicked eg
Quote:
"For justice is perpetual and immortal. But the wicked with works and words have called it to them "

Quote:
24 But by the envy of the devil, death came into the world:
25 And they follow him that are of his side.

Quote:
A mighty wind shall stand up against them, and as a whirlwind shall divide them: and their iniquity shall bring all the earth to a desert, and wickedness shall overthrow the thrones of the mighty.

Quote:
30 For after this cometh night, but no evil can overcome wisdom.

I don't have time to look into it further now, but two more things stand out to me from the Book of Wisdom:
1. Each passage is numbered, like in the bible, so I'm wondering if some of the numbers people were noticing (or the number of blank spaces on Peg's blog) relate back to specific phrases.
2. The word 'wicked' is used a lot, alongside wisdom and justice, and the other place this word stood out to me was on Peg's blog when she repeated 'wicked wicked cold'. http://www.snowtown.me/?p=70
So I'm wondering if some kind of cross referencing between the two texts might uncover something

I just noticed a couple of recent posts in the Guestbook on the library website that also quote from two other places in the Book of Wisdom. I don't know for sure that these are characters, but perhaps they have been "possessed" by the snow people as well and are giving us a path we need to pursue further.

Both posts are from today (2/24):

Quote:
James said: February 24th, 2011 4:46 am
Better it is to have no children, and to have virtue: for the memorial thereof is immortal:

Lucy said: February 24th, 2011 4:41 am
For justice is perpetual and immortal. The wicked with works and words have called it to them

The quote from James is from Chapter 4: Verse 1.

Quote:
Better it is to have no children, and to have virtue: for the memorial thereof is immortal: because it is known with God, and with men.

The quote from Lucy is from Chapter 1: Verse 15-16. The full lines are:

Quote:
15For justice is perpetual and immortal.

16But the wicked with works and words have called it to them: and esteeming it a friend have fallen away, and have made a covenant with it: because they are worthy to be of the part thereof.

Just as a refresher, the quote from Ruthie's emails refers to Chapter 1: Verse 1:
Quote:
1Love justice, you that are the judges of the earth. Think of the Lord in goodness, and seek him in simplicity of heart.

I suspect that we need to look at the chapter/verse numbers as clues, or find a code to superimpose on the book to highlight words. Not sure what yet.

So far we have:
1:1
1:15-16
4:1

Sorry Nedra, that was me trying to bait Ruthie on the Guestbook. I've had contact with Ruthie and Private by email but they stopped corresponding for a time, and as I was in a particular character (of my own creating) when talking to Ruthie I didn't want to try my half baked theory via email, so I posted on the guestbook anonymously to see if I'd get a response.

I didn't Sad

Storm of the century

the more that happens the more I think of "Storm of the Century" I am going to get a copy from netflix and watch it again to see if I find anything. Remember in the story the villian was a sorceror (magician)

Quote:
Storm of the Century, 1999PG-13 256

Just as a devastating snowstorm hits a small island off the coast of Maine, a creepy stranger (Colm Feore) arrives in town with detailed knowledge of the residents' closest-kept secrets and an unspeakable demand of the townspeople. The local sheriff (Tim Daly) fights back, but even from a jail cell the man seems to wield lethal, supernatural powers. Stephen King penned this Emmy-winning TV miniseries also starring Debrah Farentino

Buckets

I was wondering what the deal was with the buckets...but if you look at Freds' snowmen there's the creepy one on our right, on the ground around it are mounds of snow, from a bucket. There's also some around Peg's drooling snowman...

Nothing much to add, I asked about the calendar entries.

Quote:
I apologize for taking so long to reply to your Electronic Mail. There is so much happening in Snow Town. We hardly have time to run our dear Snow Town Library. The Snow People have returned to Snow Town!

Our calendar marks many important dates for our town and library. Valentine's Day is always a favorite around here. I believe we launched our new Snow Town Library website on that particular day. We also held a tea for some of Snow Town's ladies. You are correct about the end of March, the Snow Town Library will be closed.

We will have news about our virtual Book Club tomorrow. Until then, please send along your Short Story suggestions for our first official gathering.

Has the "Cask of Amontillado by Edgar Allan Poe" Always been in such huge bold coloured letters?

spiral and map

I don't have time since I am at work, but I think if you take the spiral, flip it over and line it up on Peg's map, I think the snowpeople locations match up with red dots.

Hi, everyone. The Amontillado story was my idea. I didn't read here first. I'm not new to ARGs but I have always been late to the party. I signed the Guestbook and suggested a creepy story off the top of my head. So no significance there.

I'm all caught up and just want to say that this group is amazing. Can't say I'll be much help, but I'm happy to be along for this ride! I gotta get back to work now. Wonder what's going to happen for the weekend.

In case anyone else, like me, hasn't seen Peg's new blog post this morning:

http://www.snowtown.me/?page_id=101

PS: Particularly notably, she's fixed the spacing.
Peg wrote:
PS A couple people asked me about the spacing on my blog. I had no idea what they were talking about so I asked Lawrence. He went through and fixed it. Let me know if it does it again, guys.

Is it just me, or does the pebbles used for the eyes of the snow people look like symbols of some kind?
The latest one looks like the outline of an old phone handset, or the symbol used for a cassette tape.

Good morning, Snow Town! The first meeting of the Snow Town book club is imminent! Chixor noticed the bolded letters on The Cask of the Amontillado; Ruthie has selected that short story for the first book club reading.
Quote:
The Snow Town Library's virtual Book Club will gather on Tuesday, March 1st at 9pm EST. Place is to be determined.

Ruthie has selected the short story for our first gathering of Snow Town Library's virtual Book Club. See below.

Peg posted a map with the stuff marked off that we requested. I fiddled with the spiral picture, as suggested by Laguz - it's much larger than the map; I couldn't get it to line up with anything, but those of you with more graphic experience might be able to get it to do something. Smile Fred is afraid she will get in trouble for posting the marked map on her blog.

There is a concert at Edward's house tonight, and Peg and Fred have been invited. She promises to post about the cassette later.

Also, Peg has laid to rest the question of the spacing in her blog.

EDIT: Curse you Dav, for being so quick to post while I was writing this. Wink

Chixor - I've been wondering if the "eyes" are symbols... they also look like old-fashioned Cylon eyes to me, too. Shocked Maybe Peg can get us close-ups of all of them.

Never mind. Confused

I should have picked up the Lucy/Luci tip-off!

Hi, everyone! I've been following this thread for a while now, but thought I'd finally speak up about the Snow People's eyes.

They just look like spirals to me. They could definitely be something else, but it would fit in with all of the other spirals that have been popping up.
