Could someone point me in the right direction? I have no clue what to do.

recursion

another lurker, another completely stuck on the recursion puzzle. have read wikipedia on recursion, tried every combo under the sun. tried blind guessing. what's the catch, i just can't figure it out?

More on the recursion puzzle

Recursion was one of my favorite puzzles, but it was very very tricky. So let's see...

Basic recursion:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
One of the things that's tough about recursion is that different hints given in this thread will help at different times.

Further along .. for pulling_out_hair:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
you need to start with the grid.

Even further along... for stillz, but not for pulling_out_hair yet:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
you are correct, you no longer need the grid.

If stillz is still stumped:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
One of the hints already given in this thread should feed your head.

Good luck everybody!

recursion

no hints then other than "you'll need the advice given in the 12 pages of comments so far, but some will help and some will likely hinder"? just a start letter, or something useful would help.

Thanks! That hint (which echoed one from earlier I'd forgotten about) plus the wiki page other someone said was useful helped out a lot. Now to the Next to Nothing puzzle!

Recursion

Hello there.

Been crawling over the hints for the Recursion puzzle. I got the three boxes quite easily, but the final answer wasn't at all obvious.

Not wanting to give away the solution, but perhaps this will help anyone else who is stuck.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
What stops a recursive function from getting stuck in an infinite loop?

Hope that's sufficient enough.

Also, I'd agree with the previous commenter who said that the seals for visiting the site on particular days aren't so good. Having to wait 12 months to make up missing seals seems a bit lame.

On the other hand, the puzzles are very good. A nice mix of difficulty.

Also, has anyone found any relevance to the binary digits around the URL in the source? I've fiddled around a bit, but haven't got much sense out of them. I suppose it just goes with the matrix reference?

Definitely. I guess they keep people visiting more often, but I doubt they matter much in the end.

Looks like it. I'm pretty sure I have every seal attainable for solving something, so they must be pure decoration.

The binary digits aren't what matter, it's the URL. Look at it a little more closely...

I'm with you. I actually got the final answer from one of the clues and thus have the seal, but in all the myriad ways I've attempted to use the grid, I have yet to turn up the "three boxes" that people keep referring to! I've been trying to go back and figure that part out, just for the pure satisfaction of it, but to no avail. I just want an actual clue where to start on the grid!

*GROAN* Okay, no sooner did I post this than I finally had the epiphany, but I can honestly say it had less to do with any clues than with finally happening on a variation I had not tried. Now a couple of the hints make sense to me, but I don't think I'd have ever gotten there by following them! So, for those struggling like me:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Cartesian grid (x, y pairs); the definition box is your starting point; don't overcomplicate how you use it - take the letters as they come...

Stuck on Videbimus Lumen Seal

I am totally stuck on the Videbimus Lumen Seal. I have looked through some of the previous posts, but seem to be dense on this one.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
I have 8 names from a book lending facility and have tried ordering the 1st, 2nd, last, and 2nd to last letters. Any pointers at this point would be helpful.

Thanks in advance

Next To Nothing

So I've managed to solve all the main theorems, and all of the hidden "seal" puzzles, except for Next To Nothing. I breezed through Videbimbus Lumen, but this one has me completely stumped. Anyone have any tips?

The traveler seal

I've managed all the hidden seals except the traveler. I thought maybe you had to visit the site and the log out (multiple times). Or maybe time travel (so I changed my computer clock while on the site).

I read the two clues people have given, and after days of trying things I can't seem to figure it out. Can someone give a slightly more explicit hint for the traveler seal?
