How was the April fools (j/k) seal acquired?
I assumed it'd just be by visiting the site on 4/1 but apparently not.
I see that 243 people got it and wondered if I missed some page or something.

No, that's right I got the seal just by visiting the site. Are you sure you were logged in?

Was this an edit to comment on the solution or do you still need help?

I'm still searching for the solution and would appreciate any further hints you guys might have.

I've constructed several plausible-to-me arguments for various solutions, but none of them have worked. I think I am still making it more complicated than it needs to be. Smile

While, at first, there may appear to be absolutely no rhyme or reason... The computer science version of the Wikipedia recursion topic is very helpful.

And thanks for the reply, Delusional. I haven't logged-out since well before the last theorem was posted.

Hey, lurker here. Reading through this for some tips, must say I've utterly stumped thus far. Do you have to understand the conception of recursion in a computer science scenario? 'Cos I don't.

The Descartes path I can't do either, I just don't get it.

...And right after I post that, I get it solved. A guess, essentially, and it doesn't make sense still.

That's pretty much everyone's reaction to this puzzle, that I know of. He probably should have done a bit more testing on it.

Aha! Thank you, that was exactly the nudge I needed. Smile

Spoiler (Rollover to View):

Once you get the first three squares, and you read the thing on the left, the answer should click with you.

Recursion
Most of the spoilers/hints herein actually made solving this one harder.

But some hints helped. The hints that helped were:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
only 12 letters fit in that box before it resets to blank again.

I mean, I knew that, but now I knew it was significant.

Also helpful was:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Notice that on the right side of the page there is a box with "Recursion adj see recursion" in it. When you click on letters in the grid they appear in another box below the first one. This suggests that they are related somehow.

The last sentence was the one that helped (as I already knew the rest).
But like another poster, I had already tried those words. But then he said:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
I spent hours indexing every combination of those letters, and never thought to just go straight

This one:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
the wikipedia entry on "Recursion_(computer_science)" is really much more clearer regarding the solution.

didn't help at all until the very last step because it reminded me of the phrase I'd need to use. But until you get that far, don't bother. It's just confusing.

Three new seals made today... all of which are, frankly, very easy.

I only see one obvious and frankly, quite clear answer for the new puzzle. Too bad it's only "Close, but no cigar."

It took forever for the site to load at first and now it won't load, at all.

EDIT2: NM. Somehow I kept totally skipping the word
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
MAIN

Edit3: Now, if it would just let me enter my answer. The site's really borked.

Yeah, I'm blanking on this one too.

I don't know what answer is obvious but once you see the method, it's very easy. Don't over think this one, it's simple, everything you need is right there in the image, if you don't see it try looking for something that's not quite right. I myself saw it far to late.
