So, if, let's say, a certain person happened to have created a Slender Series, and it isn't getting any publicity. Like, at all. And, of course, the person doesn't want to be an asshole, so they don't want to do the whole 'Hey guys I found this thing that might be a Slendy Series but totally isn't mine winkwinknudgenudge'. What do you think the best course of action would be? Simply keep producing, and wait for someone to notice it, or is there something else you would suggest? Like, possibly PM a prominent member as a guest account (Or even as your own account) and then completely avoiding any discussion topics that sprout from it?

Not that, you know, I'm planning on doing anything like this. At least, any time soon.

I don't see anything wrong with this. Another course of action is to just post as a guest or yourself in the list thread and see if that gets noticed. Or just get connections with other blogs/ARGs by commenting, email, etc. :\

Tbh, my blog/vlog hasn't taken off yet even though it's been around for several months, but I think subtlety can be just as good a campaign if you're patient, having dealt with similar projects in the past.

If a series is well produced and is interesting to watch, then it WILL be found. I think the best games has more passive puppetmasters, and if you're running an ARG, you really shouldn't be THAT focused on trying to get views.

If you understand that, I believe it is said somewhere that it would be best to PM a mod or prominent member to help if you really need it

What you're describing is against the Terms of Service and your action would subject your project and your account here to come under negative scrutiny.

Allow me to quote SpaceBass, the owner of the forums, from his sticky post at N&R:

SpaceBass wrote:
First, let me congratulate you on your initiative. I totally love this stuff and am glad to see more and more people becoming interested in it all the time, especially those dedicated and/or insane enough to want to take a stab at Puppetmastery for their fellows' entertainment.

Okay, now let's get a couple of things straight. Even though I love what you're doing, there are a few rules on this board that you really must keep in mind.

First, don't register a second account just to post your trailhead or rabbithole. Duplicate accounts are a no-no and really not worth it anyway, as you'll see when you read my next point.

Next point, once you've posted your initial clue, stop posting about it. I look the other way for trailhead posts, even though they're about as clichéd as a launch can get (along with spamming your trailhead to random members of the community), but I won't look the other way if you keep coming back. That's just bad form and in a way a little insulting to your players. This includes posting under your regular account as if you're playing your own game when you're really just prodding people along. It also includes posting under anonymous unregistered nicks or creating new registered nicks to masquerade as players or in-game characters.

That's pretty much it for the rules actually. But let me encourage you to try to find some other way to launch your game. If you really can't think of any way besides dropping a blatant link or clue on the forums, feel free to contact one of the forum admins (currently: SpaceBass, vpisteve, jamesi, imbri, Gupfee, ScarpeGrosse, Giskard, and xnbomb) by email or PM, give us your trailhead info, and have us post it for you. We'll be completely discreet and post it as an anonymous tip for you, then use the Force to erase our memories of the entire event. Unless, of course, you post to that thread we started for you. Razz

NEW BEST OPTION: Submit your game tip to Despoiler. Be patient after submission as players will generally pick it up and begin discussion themselves, if interested.

Good luck with your efforts!

/edit for clarification: What I mean about "it's against to ToS" are posts from your account or a guest account used by you that are IG. Sending a PM to a prominent member or a moderator or an admin as you see above to ask them to start a thread for you is perfectly fine.

I hope that's clearer now.

Ask someone else to post it. That's what I did.

I mean, that's what I'd do. Or would I?

Asking a member or mod to post it for you is fine because if you are like "OMG GUYS I HURRD YOU CAN SOLVE PUZZLES. THERE ARE BINARY IN MY EMAILZ PLX HALP" then we know that youre desperate in for some entertainment fame and you are an asshole.
