[Trailhead] COD BlackOps Intro Numbers station recording at the beginning of COD BlackOps OK, not sure if this is a trailhead or not, but at the beginning of TreyArch's Call of Duty: Black Ops there is a video showing the recording for a numbers station. I've recorded it here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_profilepage&v=gJJ3mNOiKQQ
The audio is:
Quote:
Ascension 7-15-1-2-19-7-25-6-13-6-7-15-14-0
They had a great (in my mind) ARG starting with the GKNOVA6.com website, so I'm hoping this is continuing it!

the numbers are a major plot point in the game,
i'm not ruling out it also being an arg, but there's an in-game reason for the numbers

Ascension and Echelon number sequences are also part of a "game within the game" which provides backstory on the game's lead character, and also gives insight into the backstory of both Black Ops' Zombie Mode and how it relates to the Zombie storyline of Call of Duty: World at War.
See this thread for info (and some spoilers)

That said...I wrote down various numerial codes that appeared through the game and I strongly suspect they are not random...

OK, for those with the game that don't find the wikia page that clear on how to get to the computer:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
At the main page (where you select campaign, multiplayer etc) hit the L2/R2 buttons a bunch of times, and Mason will break free from the straps holding him in
I also found two more codes within the game.
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
I think its the second last mission, where you start in the chair and punch Hudson to get free. If you go to the "pause" menu, these codes appear through the mission. There may be more, I only saw two.
For ease of use, I have added the text versions of the codes:
Quote:
Ascension 9 18 8 23 8 3 8 22 15 21 17 6 16 1 7 8 19 10 22 19 23 14 17 14 22 0 12 8 8 10 7 1 1 22
Quote:
Echelon 3 24 20 12 19 17 17 22 19 23 19 4 0 7 6 7 19 10 12 16 17 6 14 4 3 17 24 20 13 24 8 16 17 1 24 9 21 15 0 5 15 4 4 23 6 11 25 14 4 20 4 9 14 18 12 8 7 21 6 4 21 7 21 4 2 14 3 14 7 18 13 6 22 16 6 1 21 21 15 3 5 24 9 11 2 10 5 21 4 20 11 19 12 5 12 13 12 5 17 19 3 14 21 12 15 17 7 7 2 2 21 1 10 22 13 5

The numbers look potentially like a continuation of the ARG.
This excites me greatly.

Echelon Codes cracked In case you're wondering, the code that begins with
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Echelon 3 24 20 12 etc.
translates into this:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
C U B A N A L L I E S A U T H O R I Z E C O N S T R U C T I O N O F P E R M A N E N T B R O A D C A S T S T A T I O N R U S A L K A G U L F O F M E X I C O P R O J E C T N O V A I N I T I A T E D A W A I T I N S T R U C T I O N S
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
"Cuban allies authorize construction of permanent broadcast station Rusalka. Gulf of Mexico. Project Nova Initiated. Await Instructions."
I've cracked the Echelon number codes but I'm still having problems with the ascension ones.

Ive been trying this once in awhile since the game came out, but I kept getting frustrated or sidetracked trying to prestige Thats awesome someone finally got somewhere! As previously asked, how did you come to that solution? I did an alphanumeric substitution and ran it through Caesarian shifts and no luck... was it Vigenere with a keyword? It's very clearly a message as none of the numbers are higher than 25. so they would each be able to have a alphabetical value assigned to them.
Edit: posted findings on the Black Ops boards and blew a few minds, but I dont know how much help it will be
Edit #2: betting its a rotating substitution. The numbers in the code go from 0 to 25, and theres not a Z in the decoded message so i think that would mean the code has to rotate... too lazy to do it right now. Ill try working on it tonight

I found an explanation for the Echelon solve here:

The reason he uses Profiles in Courage by John F. Kennedy is because the book is seen resting on the woman's desk as she recites the numbers (attached).
I wonder if there's anything left besides Ascension. D8

the code Yeah, it was JFK's Profiles in Courage. The first number of the code refers to a page in the book. For example, the code beginning in Echelon 3 uses page 3 of the book as a one-time pad. Take the numbers, translate into letters (0=A, 1=B, etc.), subtract the letters in the book from the original numbers using modular subtraction and you have the original message.
The tough part is that there are sometimes typos. And the first number of the code is not necessarily the actual page number. The Ascension codes were tougher because they started on the 7th letter of the page and were much farther into the book (with no pattern to which ascension code started on which page).
I cracked them all though. I feel special. I sent a mysterious package to Craig Houston (lead writer) at Treyarch's HQ in Santa Monica. I included the translations of the codes and a flash drive with pictures of my book and the Echelon/Ascension codes that they came from. I also created an mp3 of me broadcasting a message in their own code.
