Here ya go.
http://theenigmaticwriter.blogspot.com/
The post that goes along with the right answer.

Quote:
Well, congratulations are in order. You managed to solve my little riddle! The answer of course, was who I believe to be one of the greatest examples of musical greatness on your world - the legendary AC/DC.

And now, as promised, some information on what is happening.

Around 50 years ago, the People of a certain world that, as mentioned earlier, is practically identical to yours other than how history panned out, became threatened when their sinful lives angered their Creators. How their very children, to whom they bestowed life, love, and all the pleasures of the world, could become so arrogant, so insolent as to turn their backs on them! The Creators decided that they must start afresh; they must re-originate the Planet and their Children so that they would not be ashamed of their work. This message was sent throughout their World so that they may know exactly why they did not deserve the gifts they had been given.

However, a single young woman by the name of Kezia D'Autur offered herself so that the rest might be spared. The Creators saw this, and it touched them to think that perhaps there was a glimmer of hope left, that perhaps they hadn't just created a disgraceful example of Humanity. They agreed to take her as a Sacrifice, so long as in a Court of Law they could prove that she was guilty of at least one sin in her life. While awaiting trial, she was sent to Prison to wait - after all, if she was to be tried, surely she should be treated as a criminal. There she met and befriended the young priestess Sister Cambria, who became a great comfort to Kezia, as she had grown up practically alone - her Father left her as a child and her Mother became terminally ill and died when she was a mere 8 years old. Before she died, however, her Mother gave her a sealed letter, telling her only to open it when the time was right, and that she would know when that time was. It eventually came to the trial, and unbeknownst to Kezia or her good friend Cambria, the Judges and the Elders had decided to find her guilty no matter the circumstances, to ensure the safety of her people.

She was immediately taken away and placed in front of a firing line, and Kezia, thinking now was as good a time as any, reached into her pocket and pulled out a wax-sealed envelope. Before she could actually read it however, the squad was ordered to fire, and fire they did. Sister Cambria, who was there to comfort Kezia at this darkest hour, saw the envelope clutched in her hand, and retrieved it before any of the Guards could. She keeps it to this very day, still sealed, waiting for the day when it should be opened.

Of course, this is not the full story - if you want the rest, your going to have to solve another of my puzzles Wink.

For the continuation of the story, riddle me this:

If east is still east, and west is still west, how can it be possible that North is South, and South is North?

Answers on a (virtual) postcard please.

Yours so long as there is still a story to be told,

The Enigmatic Writer.

Edit: I just emailed because a few answers came to mind.
The magnetic field (Which defines North and South)
The poles (Just in case a more specific answers)
The compass (Because it points north or south depending on the magnet.

Ah. So close
Quote:
I will allow multiple answers, so long as you allow me the right to tell you if any of them are right are close - but not which specific answer. And if you'll allow me that right, I can tell you that your getting close...you just need to get more specific.

Magnet?
Hm. Close but no cigar comes to mind.

cherrytree,

i have emailled a couple of guesses:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
either - he is talking about the earth's magnetic flip, which happens every few thousand years, where north and south poles switch over (don't ask me how or why, just heard about it before)

or, if yr in a border town in Northern Ireland a lot of the time to the north is Southern Ireland, and to the south is Northern Ireland - it is to do with the way that eire wraps itself around N.I.

will see what the enigmatic one has to say later on...

Some email correspondence between myself and The Enigmatic Writer.

The Magnetic Pole switch? We're well overdue for one in this world, after all.

I'm willing to give you this, but for bonus points, can you tell me what this event is actually called?

Yours until my wrist cramps up,
The Enigmatic Writer.

Quote:
Well there's several different names for this event but two in particular quite similar are.

1: The Cataclysmic Pole Shift.

Or simply

2: The Polar Shift.

Are either of these what you are looking for?

Okay i've been emailing back, and forth with the Sister. I'll post everything here.
Quote:
I thought before we get any further I might introduce myself as is proper. I'm Dustin Cooper, and I would like to speak further, but I rather not be rude. So i'll wait for a response.

Her response
Quote:
Dear Dustin,
Good manners of all things! They are something that, sadly, I do not see too often these days. What would you like to talk about, my dear child?
May the Creators always watch over you,
Sister Cambria

My response

Quote:
That's saddening to hear. As I think you're already aware someone has been telling us your world's story I can say it's quite a sad tale, but this person wanted us to relay something to you which i'm almost sure you've already heard of.
It's about Kezia.
According to the person who's been telling us your world's story, and her's. Says that she's been ressurected.
I thought I might relay this information in case you were not privy to it, but from what I know someone else has told you be now.
I can honestly sympathize with you. I know alot of people with bad manners. It's quite disheartning to see.

Her response
Quote:
My Dear Child,
I have been informed of Kezia's apparant revival, though I have my doubts, and my worries. Though, forgive me for asking, but how do you mean 'your' world? It is not yours, but ours, surely?
And with regards to the bad manners, around here they are about as rare as people coming back from the dead.
May the Creators watch over you always,
Sister Cambria.

My response
Quote:
It's fine. I was expecting that kinda question. I'll try to explain it in the simplest of terms. If you have a piece of paper fold it in half. You see how the two halfs are so close to each that's how we are. You live in a different "World" then ours. Our is a subjective term because you live in that different world.
For example: There was a choice when you were born whether to have sex or not. Thus there are 2 worlds. 1 where you are born, and another where you never were born.
In the core thought of some "God never makes mistakes" Thus these "Worlds" use those decisions we make every day, and thus a new world is made out of those different answers to the choices. Thus this is "our" world while you live in "Your" people's world. It's not meant as possesive but rather generalized.
I hope I haven't gotten to long winded here.

Her response
Quote:
My Dear Child,
This all seems rather...overwhelming. The dead rising, different worlds...though I suppose that if the Creators made ours, it is quite possible for them to make others.
Now, as is only proper, a favour deserves a favour. Is there anything you'd like to know?
May the Creators watch over you always,
Sister Cambria.

Edit 1: I hate to make this post much longer, but i've been exchanging emails with the Sister.
Her response:
Quote:
Why yes, My Child, I can - though the subject is large, so I will stick to the basics and answer any other questions you may have.

They are the originators of our Universe - going from planet to planet, bringing order to chaos, giving life to these new worlds, and where nessecary, taking it. They created Our world around 3,000 years ago, and when we were first made we beheld them as what they were - almighty Deities. They left us with one clear message: "One day, we shall return, and observe your progress. May each of you live a good life, that we may continue to gift you with it." In celebration of them, we opened up Chantries, were people may come and give thanks, and in turn it did become a religion - a religion which, up until around 500 years ago, all of our people followed without question.

We have never doubted the existance of the Creators as a whole - they left us enough artifacts and information so as to know that they did - though people did doubt whether they would return, and thus, turned from the religion and began to live sadly sinful lives. I presume you know of the events from 50 years past, when they returned?

That is the basic story of our Creators, and may they watch over you as they watch over the rest of us.

Sister Cambria.

My response:
Quote:
Thank you very much. Our religions are very divergent. We don't have a central religion. I can't even count the number of religions we have. The ball's in your court if you wish to ask something.
I have another question if you wish to pass it to my court.
Can you tell us anything more Kezia?
We have a very bare bone's about her.
Yes we know kinda the basics of what happened.

Her response
Quote:
Dear Child,

What happened 50 years ago still breaks my heart. Kezia, betrayed by the very people she had sacrificed herself to save! Treated like a common criminal, when infact she was the most important person alive.

The Creators had seen the sinful ways of my people, and were disgusted. They were to re-originate our planet, as we did not deserve the very life they had given us. Kezia very bravely prayed out to them, offering herself so that the rest of us be spared. The Creators agreed, so long as they could prove she had infact committed a sin in her life - if she had not, she would be the only one spared. Our Elders, Judges, and our Queen agreed to this, and set up a trial, where she would be judged by her peers. Then they came, and arrested her - as though she was a lowly thief, as if she was scum! It was in the prison, where I then acted as the resident Priestess, that I met her. For the first few weeks, I watched her. She simply sat, staring at an envelope, with nought a complaint or any sign of distress. I thought she was such a brave child then. After these few weeks had passed, I decided to talk to her - after all, it is my duty to be Good to those around me, and she had no-one else. I learned that Kezia was a beautiful, kind, intelligent woman - even as she sat there, being treated lower than a Pig, all she could do was express concern for her captors, praying each day that they may be forgiven.

Around a week before the trial happened, she asked me to look after something for her when she was sacrificed - the very envelope she treasured. Of course, when the Trial came, they had all turned against her - the Trial was fixed, and even though in her heart she knew this, she accepted it as she knew it meant they would all be safe. But what they accused her of! It was awful! I still remember it to this day one line that stood above the rest:

'Divinity is not physical, and your flesh means more than you.'

That was all they saw her as - a meat bag that they could use. Can you imagine anything worse? Of course they all declared her guilty, and immediately took her to the shooting line. I managed to speak with her just before she died, and remember what she said to me;

'Do not worry for me, Cambria. This is all for the best. And besides, I'll always be Kezia so long as any hope remains.'

Even in her final moments, she cared more for others than herself. After the unspeakable had happened, I came to say a prayer for her, and noticed something clasped in her hand - the envelope I had promised to guard. I still have it with me. And I still have hope, for as long as I do, Kezia will always be Kezia.

I hope this is explanatory enough for you, but please, feel free to add any more questions - and, if I may, i'd like to ask one myself - is there any way you can prove to me that what you say has happened, and she is indeed back?

May the Creators always watch over you,

Sister Cambria.

My response
Quote:
It is fine Sister. Ask whatever you need too i'm free to questions.
I don't know if you would consider this hard evidence.
This is from the person who has been telling us this story.
"In the past 50 years, the people who our dear Kezia had sacrificed herself so selflessly to save learned nothing. They simply continued to live their sinful lives, ungrateful of her gift to them and the second chance their Creators had chosen to grant them. The Creators saw that this might happen when they accepted Kezia as a sacrifice, and so implemented a failsafe; a watcher, who was to stay behind and monitor the world. If they continued as they were, which of course they did, the Observer was to ressurect Kezia as a sign - a sign that again, they had failed the very ones who gave them life, and who had given them the second chance that so many other races had not.

The Observer has of course now ressurected Kezia, though presently none of the world but herself knows. It shouldn't be too long before they found out though - a grave being reopened is something that won't go unnoticed for too long. And, of course, when the world learns that Kezia has been ressurected, history is bound to repeat itself - some parts of it at least.

I don't know if that is proof in your eyes. I can ask the person for proof, but I don't know if he will have any.

Her response:
Quote:
My Dear Child, you have given me at least a clue as to some evidence - an un-opened grave. I shall go and see if this is infact true; it is only a short walk to where she is buried, I shall return shortly.

As with regards to the rest of the post - this is news to me. The Creators never mentioned leaving anyone behind to monitor us at all - though I do not question their decision; they are the wisest of all beings, after all.

May the Creators watch over you always,

Sister Cambria.

Response after checking the grave:
Quote:
It is true! Her grave is empty! Kezia, my dear Kezia, has returned!

Though something does worry me; if this part is true, then everything else this mysterious figure who has introduced us says is true. Our world could be in grave danger...

May the Creators watch over you always,

Sister Cambria

My response:
Quote:
I belive the letter may hold your salvation. Or maybe a clue. It's up to you to find Kezia, and give her the letter to open. Or you can open it yourself. That choice is yours alone sister.

Her response:
Quote:
I could not open this letter, Dustin. It is hers and hers alone to open. I believe finding Kezia and giving it to her would be the best course of action right now. It is a shame there were no clues as to her whereabouts...perhaps your friend could help me?

May the Creators watch over you always,

Sister Cambria.

I've sent an email to him. I don't know if he'll send me a riddle over email or the blog. I'll keep my eye out.

excellent work cherrytree,

i had a reply to my email from sister cambria but i haven't had chance to enter into the lengthy discussion you have already had. on the back of that i intend to reply to her and let her know we've shared information - as i don't really have anything extra i'd have asked and she seems to have moved us on to a point where we will need more clues from TEW.

seems our next job is to find kezia and reunite her with sister cambria. and let's hope whatever is in the letter will be good news,

mycroft

Yeah. Got an email back. Seems i'm now on the ball to do a little game show.
Quote:
My help again? So soon? Very well, I suppose there is no reason I should not.

Are you familiar with the game show QI? I find it rather amusing. I believe I shall base my next game on it:

The rules are quite simple really;

I will give you a base score of 5.
I will ask you 5 questions. Your answers do not have to be right, just quite interesting.
If they are so, I add one to your score. If you are wrong and they are not interesting at all, I take away a point.
If you fall in to the trap of giving a far too obvious answer, I take away 2.

For every point you have, I will give you a nudge in the right direction.
However, for every point under 0, I shall hinder you in some way.
A score of -5 results in a major hinderance.

This could be a bit of a gamble for you, so I will give you the choice of whether or not you wish to accept this challenge.

Yours,

The Enigmatic Writer.

I'll respond yes.
My response:
Quote:
Yes I accept the gambit.

His response:
Quote:
Very well. Your first question shall be up on my blog shortly. In the mean time, I suggest you let your friend know that I have the power to ensure Kezia's safety so long as the game continues.

Yours,

The Enigmatic Writer.

So I went an emailed the Sister
My email:
Quote:
Well Sister I've asked him, and I have to play a game to win her location, but if i do bad on the game then there will be a major detriment. He told me I should say that her safety is insured as long as I continue to play the game.

Her response:
Quote:
In that case, I pray to your success. I'm not sure whether or not this friend of yours is trustworthy, but he was right about Kezia, so i'm willing to go along with it for now.

May the Creators watch over you always,

Sister Cambria.

Blog has been updated:
Quote:
So, you have accepted my challenge. How daring!

A recap of the rules:

I will give you a base score of 5.
I will ask you 5 questions. Your answers do not have to be right, just quite interesting.
If they are so, I add one to your score. If you are wrong and they are not interesting at all, I take away a point.
If you fall in to the trap of giving a far too obvious answer, I take away 2.

For every point you have, I will give you a nudge in the right direction.
However, for every point under 0, I shall hinder you in some way.
A score of -5 results in a major hinderance.

And so, your first question:

What was the first living thing to be sent into space?

Remember, do not give the obvious answer, your scores are cumulative (for example, someone sends in a right answer, and someone sends in an obvious one, you would gain -1 points) and you do not have to be right - just Quite Interesting.

Good luck my friends.

Yours,

The Enigmatic Writer.

It's time to get cracking.

my QI answer:

Quote:
hope this is vaguely interesting...

possibly first, or at least equal first, would be a special bacterium which can bury its own genetic material inside the living cells of flies. if not the first living thing sent into space deliberately, this would definitely be the first hitch-hiker to leave earth into orbit - as an estimated 20% of all fruit flies carry the bacteria dormant inside their bodies; and fruit flies were sent into space just after the second world war, as the usa and ussr began their programmes to break both the sound barrier and the outer limit of the earth's atmosphere.

so, there had in fact been many living things sent out from earth before the flight of laika the dog - which is often incorrectly assumed to have been first.

let's see how harsh our writer is going to be with his point scoring.

Good Job Mycroft! We're at a balance of 5 points now. The blog has been updated with Round 2.
Quote:
Well then, thanks to this answer:

You are 2 points better off, putting you on a total of 5.

Now your second question;

What does Bugs Bunny have in common with the Easter Bunny and Brer Rabbit?

Yours,

The Enigmatic Writer.

Sent this answer in:
Quote:
Ah what makes them the same.
1. All of them are tricksters in a way. Bugs Bunny tricks the atagonists, and get's back at them. Brer rabbit also is shown to be a trickster after being thrown into a biar patch. Easter bunny hides easter eggs around not always in obvious spots. This is considered a trickster
2. All were taken from folklore or people. Bugs bunny is thought of by the runaway slaves. Which could refer to the main atagonist being a hunter. Brer rabbit taken from African folklore of being a hare which was tradiontally a figure of a trickster. Easter Bunny was taken from German folklore of a hare who gave eggs to good little children.
3. They are not bunny's they are hare's. This is actually a politically correct statement that in each situation they follow the name of Hare not Rabbit or Bunny.
4. All appeared in animated shorts or in movies. Alot of shorts for Warner Bro's for Bugs Bunny. Brer rabbit in Song of the south. Easter Bunny in Here Comes Peter Cottontail: The movie.

I think that's sufficent answer of how they are the same.

I really hope it's good enough.

good answer! well i found it interesting anyway so let's hope for more positive points from TWE. i sent some extra info this morning as well:

Quote:
just to add to my friends excellent answer on the trickster nature of all three 'bunnies'...

bugs, brer and the easter bunny have also all been involved in racism rows, and requests for them to be banned.

bugs had several cartoon in the 50s which are no longer shown due to the portrayal of deep south characters, and the film the song of the south has never been released by disney in full in the usa, due to concerns about possible complaints over the uncle remus character. the easter bunny has been called into question in recent years for its association with christianity (though this may well be in the main just the usual scare-mongering of the more right wing press and their 'political correctness' phobia). ironically though, a recent case found that someone had been leaving racist messages inside plastic easter eggs in michigan - not the kind of kinder surprise you might want yr child to find.

we may need all the help we can get in finding kezia...

*Whistles* We did an excellent job this time. 5 interesting answers with the one he was looking for giving us 11 points! Plus the post that goes along with it.

My my my, i'm going to regret this decision aren't I? 5 interesting answers, including the one I was looking for, giving you a grand total of 11 points!

And so, your next question:

What was the dishwasher invented for?

Yours,

The Enigmatic Writer.

Time to get ready for the next answer.
