Yeah, the CC thing sucks. It's real, because I did see the email of one of my friends among the loooong list.

I still have some hope, since Elephant clearly states we make this ARG together, but I'm afraid someone made this very promising game go bad on accident. Maybe still a chance to recover? With some less obvious leads... Fingers crossed.

 		I still hope that most of the emails are made up for getting the three references. Which would cut down the number of potential spammers from 280 to less than 100 - Uhhh - still a high number Sad

Regarding "shredding the curtain":
There has been a lot of big games, e.g The Lost Rings, where there was a Meta-OOG-page like the one we have here now. This helps people who are new to ARGs to participate. Normally those pages are indeed OOG, which means the IG characters will not know about them. So that is not a critical point. If it is necessary or not is another issue.

Just my two cents...

Having an OOG wiki or blog if fine, even if created by the PM, but blatantly linking to it IG does "shred the curtain," especially in this case since the blog uses the same background/theme as the IG site and contains references to the fact that it is, in fact, an ARG.

We realize what a terrible accident it was to CC you on an email. For that we sincerely apologize. We understand the importance of privacy and the severity of our mistake. However, email is nearly instant and such a mistake could not be undone. We really appreciate you following us to this point, and we hope we can gain your trust again. We can assure you this mistake has been fixed and will not happen in the future. The person that was responsible was promptly executed and we have photographic proof. (graphic content!)

 		Yeah, I got that e-mail too. Won't stop the spam from flowing, though. Hopefully they can concentrate on moving this thing forward now.

Also, am I the only one bugged by the PM making us try to get other people to sign on? I feel like I'm selling Amway, or something. Just make the ARG good, and people will flock to it.

 		Just my two cents here, as someone with a passing interest in this ARG, but... How sure are we that this isn't some poorly-conceived ad campaign or publicity ploy? Perhaps not specifically intended to sell any particular product, but this blog post seems kind of fishy.

In response to the e-mail cc error and the late and left-handed apology I have stopped following the whatiselephant twitter and sent the 'unsubscribe' to elephant. I am encouraging my three other recruits to do likewise-- to my mind, it's an appropriate response. After this post I'm going either play or shut up. I haven't sent anything to the cc list, and will not. Please don't compound the problem by being 'clever.' Good luck with the game and have fun; it looks like it could be fun.

Plenty of ARGs are huge ads, but as far as I know they don't shove what they're selling in your face. Besides, advertisements aren't that awful.

But geez, overreacting much, guys? So Elephant sent out all your email addresses to each other. Who cares? It was an accident, and at worst you'll maybe get a few emails you don't want, which is not worth getting worked up over. Besides, I have a separate email address for ARGs, which you should all have if you're so concerned about your privacy. Some people just love sending really angry comments to companies for every little mistake they make. I hate people like that. And yes, Elephant took a bit too long to apologize for the little screw-up. Probably because he had actual work to do. By the way, I found it amusing.

Just enjoy the game.

 		i don't think the griping is just about some little mistake...for myself, i know from experience that when pm's drop the ball like this from the outset that that is indicative of things to come; also, it's a trust issue as well; if I can't trust a pm to take my privacy seriously how can I trust them to take other things seriously...like safety or more importantly: story

i'm not saying that is the case here; but it raises a red flag

and ultimately if the game had better things going on right now it would have been moot

I find it somehow scary how many people are using the internet and emails without undestanding the basics of these technologies.

Yep, that's kind of funny. There is no list unless you keep replying to all. Even funnier are the people screaming PLEASE DON'T REPLY TO ALL Smile

Curious, I checked out the above link. Jameson Detweiler, the author of this blog, looks very much like 'Oscar' in the second Elephant video [overpass above freeway] to me, lol.

By the way, the filter in the G-mail account with my game alias caught 100% of the CC-generated spam.
