I've shared the directory as well. http://www.4shared.com/dir/bkRF7U8T/sharing.html
PS. Just read Foilhead's recent blog - he is a bit weird don't you think? An odd perspective on the world.

The file contains 2 documents, another password protected zip and a PDF. Interestingly, the PDF contains hidden text:

Header Page 1400 men
Footer Page maurice palatine

and so far the only thing I can find relating to that is:

Pretty sure it is what we are after.

Particularly as the image in the PDF is

Ninja'd me Smile

Sent a message to Wallace asking him to do as the file suggests:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Wallace,

We have managed to open the files that Louise was sent. They are from F.P. Sun and were intended to be passed on once he was dead.

The general gist of the information contained in the first file is that four of his friends have betrayed him to "the numbered" and that "the numbered" control Corcas. (This would likely be Dwight Sunderland, Johnny Howard, Max Drum and Dennis Stern who are the only living remnants of the 'Rocket Men of Shen' excluding Maad and Inspector Galesh.)

The second file tells us that there are 729 cells of "the numbered" and that Corcas is at the heart of them. The instructions that follow are to remove them to disrupt the rest and to ask you to check the land registry - keeping in mind that the main office in the West Country is a decoy.

Could you please see what you can find at the land registry?

Thanks

Reesylou

Coffee No biggie yet am hearing "there are 1029 cells of the numbered." etc. and the new quote at Wallace's Home, "We don't see things as they are, we see them as we are", is by Anais Nin. Am eager to read Wallace's fridge saga later today.

Checked again... definitely 729...

another new update on Wallace's blog: Saturday Morning: A Yellow Taxi... (Part I)

Wallace mentions Louise has a new file... wonder if it is the one Louise already posted (part2) or another one)

reesylou, am hoping this nbr is not important 'tho hearing definitely "1029 cells". Well, that's what makes a horse race & likely someone else will help us out with what they hear soon enough. Wanna hear more so *fingers crossed* Saying G'Nite with:

Foilhead mentioned something about the future in his most recent post as well, do you think I caused this change in the present with what happened on the 9th?

Brewery delivery now that is a good idea although I think it would be better as an escape plan. Excellent!

Are the C.O.P.S. they appear to be then?

Reesylou,

Good work. I wonder what Shen actually means?

Chop the head off the snake, maybe. I'll get a friend to look into Corcas's estates in the UK.

Keep up the good work, I do not what I would do without you.

Wallace.

So there is an update from Louise on Wallace's blog giving us Part 3 of the info. Will update once I have looked at it.

(EDIT) The title of the text file is ROT8 and decodes to:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
A smart person need only decode clue

The Poem inside the text file is from here: http://www.thepoetsgarret.com/Challenge/sestetchal.html#stave

I haven't had a lot of luck with the encoded lines at the end, but did try jack the ripper as a key given the "return to the beginning" instruction.

Wonder if return to the beginning and need only decode one clue both refer to the poem, a six-line stave used by Robert Burns?

Maybe just a coincidence yet the 7z file is named "Max" and "Robert's youngest son, Maxwell Burns, is born on the day of the poet's funeral. (1796)"SOURCE He was named after the family physician, Dr. William Maxwell.

WOW... you guys are pretty awesome! I feel pretty dumb not guessing that Dingle was a key.

Anyway, I figure I am gonna look into the Rocket Men of Shen to try and find out more meaning behind the name. Maybe William has heard something about it? Um.

FUN! Wallace's blog has a fridge saga update and maybe some Lu help with the new code.

Louise in an email wrote:
I love your little animated gifs they really cheer me up although the coppers at the police station practically fell over their selves to be nice to me, I think Wallace was a little annoyed about that when I told him after we were let go.

The number that keeps cropping up is 9 that's if you read Foilhead's blogs and believe in numerology. Perhaps this new code has a 9 related to it, I'm going to end up with a case of OSD and start counting everything.

Why can't Wallace have a simple case, I'm sure he is a magnet for trouble.

Good idea. I think (based on Wallace's email) that "Shen" is the focus rather than the whole phrase. Wikipedia has some info on alternate meanings, but I have not had any chance to follow it up.

I hadn't thought of asking William, but he was there (even though not involved) so may know something.

Something else I was trying to investigate was the reference to Asimov and C.O.P.S. but came up blank on that too.

Wikipedia and other sources give an interesting yield on the whole Shen thing. I am in an email convo with Wallace about it, I will post it up tonight.

Foilhead updated with a postcard from the game Shift to alert us that "(" is the shift of 9 btw Maxwell was R. Burns' 9th child.

Am in an email to Roxie Underhill wrote:
Just dropping you a note to say "Reg ego - 2 fid KLG" is still unsolved.

Sorry you're in such a precarious place, really. My sources say that Richard Colvin Cox disappeared only to become a C.I.A agent. Why were we led to him? Is the name Jeff Cox meaningful to you?

R.U. wrote:
It is not required to know all, you can leave this one if it is too hard for you. You have my predecessor to thank for that particular message, she was trying to emulate the late Mr Sun. Didn't you know notice there were 5 Keyed Caesar codes and 5 Playfair codes, obviously the next one would of been in a different code method.

I have replaced her for the time being. By the way we are all called: Roxie Underhill. It is a cover (generic) name.
Your sources on Cox are wrong. the numbered got to him before the Group could. Jeff Cox I believe died of an heart attacked recently, Mr Sun was upset by it.

R.U.

And
Louise in an email wrote:
How about decoding the codes below the poem perhaps the poem is a decoy. What did it say Return to the Beginning? Weren't the first codes in Keyed Ceasar or something, maybe there is more to this 9 that meets the eye. Curious postcard that, just finished playing the Shift game really funny ending

For those who haven't d/l-ed the "Max 7z" file these are the "poem" codes that Louise is suggesting are a Keyed Caesar:
Code:
Ojxw
Hnojnw
Tgzlvxvsmi vh
Oxf
Wcbpi
Dtbaho ei heo nsnoh

This is a bit unrelated to the cyphers, but may serve as to provide some insight into some of the other stuff going on...

TEXT DUMP 2: ELECTRIC BOOGALOO!

I've been corresponding with Wallace, then William, and then whoever Roxie Underhill is at the present moment. And heeeeere's what I've got, for what it's worth:

The Wallace Missives:

From Me:
Quote:
Dear Wallace,

I heard about the incident with the taxi car. Terrible! Hope that you guys are all right now. I'll have to buy you a drink when this case is over, it sounds like you're having a rough time of it.

Anyway, you asked a friend of mine about the meaning of the word Shen, right? Well, I don't know if anyone has given you an answer or not, but etymology fascinates me, so I can tell you a bit.

The origin of the word is lost to time, but earliest uses in scripts and texts sets its origin in ancient China, where the word quite literally means "god", "spirit", "awareness", or "consciousness." Sounds sorta mystical, right? Well, it has a wealth of religious and philosophical meanings in Chinese culture, being associated with gods (Such as Shen Shu, a god of the Eastern Sea) and philosophical meanings, such as enlightenment. The word has also been borrowed and exists in different forms in other asian cultures such as Japan, Korea, and Vietnam.

And he wrote back:

Quote:
Thank you for your concern, it has been a rough weekend, will posting part 2 soon.

Rocket Men of God? No egos there then.

I keep meaning to ask Bill about actually, it is his area of expertise. I will pass on your information.

Wallace.

I followed up with:

Quote:
Well, not NECESSARILY god... there are other definitions in the Chinese tradition, (Up to 11 according to Wikipedia, althoug their information is dubious) but most of them have fallen out of use. There's also apparently some connection between the word and a legend of a "mirage dragon" which lived in the ocean and may have also been a shapeshifter. Don't ask, its long and ridiculous and probably rubbish.

And that's just the oldest connotations. Ancient Egypt hiroglyphics also have a "Shen" which refers to a specific symbol, although it doesn't seem very relevant. There may be other meanings as well, it really depends on who was naming this group. I would ask Prof. Maad what ethnicity the guy who started it was.

What is William's specialty again? I keep meaning to ask him.

Anyway, take care of yourself. You may also want to ask Galaxy about this, but I dunno... dude seems like a bit of a tool and he doesn't really seem to like you much.

Hope that helps!

And his reply was:

Quote:
Bill is a professor of ancient history, perhaps you should talk directly to him.

Galaxy? I assume you mean Galesh, there may come a time when we speak hopefully I will have the advantage not him. I definitely do not trust him.

Wallace.

At this point I took the hint and started writing William again.

The William Note

Quote:
Hello again, William!

I am writing again because Wallace recommended I ask this to you. I was wondering if you knew anything about the etymology and the history behind the word "Shen"? I have done some basic research but I am curious as to what the name "Rocketmen of Shen" would mean and why people would call themselves that. Do you have any further insight into the background and history of the word?

Thank you for reading this!

And he wrote back something VERRRY interesting:

Quote:
Well I've been keeping up with Wallace's blog and I noticed that the Mr Sun chap was the person that named it in the first place also from Professor Maad's description of Sun he doesn't appear to age at all. This would lead in the direction of "Shen" being an Egyptian symbol normally equated with 'eternal' or 'protection'. The symbol itself looks like a circle with line under it.

The Shen ring is often attached to staffs and probably symbolizes the Eternal authority of whoever holds the staff. It can also mean royalty, the meaning in ancient Egyptian is 'encircle' but I think Mr Sun version of the meaning is probably some form of eternal life. Anything placed within the circle is meant to be protected. There was also an Egyptian God Huh who is depicted with Shen rings on either side of his form.

Obviously Mr Sun is now presumed dead so we can not ask him.

Of course it is possible that he just aged slowly some people do. Hope this helps.

Bill.

The Roxie Correspondence

I then wrote to R.U. asking:

Quote:
Hello again! Do you know why Sun called his group the Rocketmen of Shen?

And she replied back:

Quote:
The Group is called C.O.P.S, no other name has been given.

Roxie Underhill.

I kinda think I confused her, so I wrote back:

Quote:
Do you know why your group was named COPS, then?

This didn't really yield any fruit, as she replied:

Quote:
Of course.

R.U.

But then I responded with:

Quote:
At the risk of sounding exasperated, the day that you are forthcoming and straight forward with information is the day that Earth explodes, isn't it?

I wasn't actually EXPECTING a response to that, but I got one...

Quote:
We wouldn't have lasted this long if we told everyone everything all at once would we now. No leverage!

Unlike my predecessor I believe in giving you a fight chance, read Isaac Asimov's 1st book in the Foundation series.

Enjoy.

R.U.

Yeeaaaah... can anyone help me make sense of that last letter? I haven't read Asimov's first book in that series, so i'd have to track down a copy of it.

Anyway, that's all I got for now!

Some really interesting info here. Thanks!!

I figured there was an Asimov link to COPS based on the inital communications we had, but wasn't familiar enough with all his works to pin it down. Having the Foundation hint tells us it is "Commision of Public Safety"
