Could it be that at some point James and his ex-wife had to run away from Metacortex and got themselves some fake documents with the names of Ryan and Sylvia, but then they were tracked down and brainwashed?
But how should this theory explain the note signed R. with the Murpha logo? If Avery=Ryan wants to hide from Metacortex, he should defintely not go and work for Murpha...

Speculation...
I thought at first that Beth was clueless about the AI. If she thought the AI might be influencing the paranormal activity, I would have thought she'd have been less surprised at the man's appearance at her campsite. Now it sounds like she's actually known about it, is familiar with it, and is trying to help it.
Those were some good points about Jesse being Avery's son. It would make sense that if he was some sort of "whiz kid" with computers that he'd be poking around trying to find out more about what his dad's company does.
Now, it would seem that Dina and Ethan believe they had a son named Jesse. James Avery has a son named Jesse.
Both Beth and Jesse sound like they would be "valuable", given Beth's employee of the month award, and Jesse's computer skills. Is it possible that both of them had been identified as especially talented, and were recruited (in Beth's case), or 'taken' (in Jesse's case) so that they could be used to help MetaCortechs?

Oh, I love it! That is ingenuity at its finest . I would have never thought of scanning/translating the barcode (although I bet Azathoth666 would have). Many thanks for providing a fact that makes certain a well-liked speculation.

In the letter to Marcus from James Avery, three questions:
1. Who is Lynne? The way it reads, it sounds that the meet and greet (whenever this was... it was before the holiday party December, 2002?) was hosted by James Avery and his wife Lynne? Where is this Lynne now? Or is Lynne a VP?
2. Emily: Is this Marcus's wife? James talking about her constitution not being able to handle Seoul either sounds like concern or a threat to Marcus and his family.
3. Do we have any clues as to the Labyrinth and Daedalus projects? Daedalus should be done by now given the 6 month time period given in the letter.

It should probably also be mentioned that Jesse looks a little older in his school ID, which would make sense, considering the timeline (the pictures on the CD are taken at least 10 months ago).

If anything, he should look younger. The ID was for the 2000-2001 school year, which would have been taken at the beginning of the school year, which makes the ID photo about 3 years old.

replying to myself - is that like talking to myself?
the id had me wondering how a 3 year old ID would have a bar code that has "Jesse Avery" encoded on it if we're all thinking that his real name should be Emerson - but it looks like the bar code is a sticker that was put onto the id.

Good point! I still think he looks older though. You know how younger kids kind of look chubby in the face? That's how I thought he looked on the CD. In the ID he looks a little skinnier, I thought. Oh well. I think he looks pretty cute in that ID though. =D

The way I read it initially, was that Lynne was an MC employee as the team were at their 'corporate retreat'.
However, is the corporate retreat a company holiday resort, or a place to go an concentrate on a project? If its the former, then spouses could well be included, if the latter, then no.

It says:
Code:
Thank you for spending time with Lynne and I and the rest of the team on our corporate retreat last week.
When I first read it, I thought it was another employee too. But, reading it again, I'm sure it is his wife. CEO's always do that, like US Presidents, ya know?

Yeah, I think you're right. How does that fit in with Dina/Sylvia though now? Who would be Jesse's mother? Dina certainly feels very strongly it is her.
Strange.
Side isssue - the game broke through in the real world for me today! Getting on the train this evening one of the screens where they would normally display the trains stops was showing a green square on a black background with lines flickering through it. I stood there for a moment waiting for a message!

Nice work! That's just the kind of thing we needed.
