btw i normally post here as 'stugots' but i can't log in for some reason.

either way has anyone gone to the official movie site on their phone? if you select the super 8 camera it takes you to the next screen which gives you a choice between 'locket' (and a picture under it) and 'trailer' (with a picture under it). apparently it's not something i can watch on my droid. anyone know what 'locket' shows?

As far as I can tell, the word "LOCKET" itself isn't a link, and the image below it takes you to the teaser trailer. The image under "TRAILER" takes you to the original trailer (not the new one).

It does look like a cave or a mine. Here I thought it was part of the train wreckage.

In regards to all the missing dogs, what if the cube monster creature thing emitted some kind of noise that only dogs could hear? Kind of like a dog whistle.

Cubes run off water?

When they were talking about the dogs running away it got me thinking, usual animals are more perceptive to things going on and are know to flee before something bad happens, i wonder though if it was only dogs that fled the town or if that is the only thing people would actually notice since it is their pets and not just wild animals that most people don't even really pay attention to.

Put up a spoiler here because it contains a small plot point to Battle LA.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Another interesting thing about the water tower is that they chose to put this trailer in front of Battle LA and within that movie the earth is invaded by aliens apparently for our water since (as claimed in the movie not sure on real fact here) but we have the only know source of H2O in liquid form.

So possibly these cubes could run off water maybe (in the still of the 1962 footage the confined cube seems to have a lot of condensation on the walls of it).

I am beginning to believe (like others) that the water tower is a key role in the film. Not so much because of the water contained within it. With the water tower directly in the center of the Space shuttle hole in the wall, in the night scenes where the debris is floating around the tower, in the movie poster posted earlier with the light emanating from behind the side, and if I remember correctly didn't our insiders in Weirton WV say they built the water tower on the set without a top on it and then blew it up? Then I see this cave/mine picture with the looped/circular metal, a car engine, and other debris makes me think that this creature may be building something out of the water tower? A ship perhaps? God I hope not because I think it sounds a little silly.

Or since caves are involved, maybe "it" needs a water supply to survive? A water tower might be a handy 'immediate' source if desperate, but perhaps it then retreats to a cave for subterranean water supplies which could be common with underground water tables, etc. That might also tie it back to "biospeloology" as well, where an expect in the field would be in demand by government investigators.

Reminds me loosely about the 'black sludge' from X-FILES which supposedly lived underground for eons before it was (re)discovered.

True, there are caves in Ohio but I am unaware of any large caves in that area. The walls of the cave in the clip look scratched out so perhaps it dug it out itself?

Well, it's a bit too far to the northeast based on the map in the trailer, but there is a really large cave system up in West Liberty, Ohio (Ohio Caverns). Wonder if they're taking some freedom with the cave systems there...

The hole looks more like brickwork to me.

Maybe they discovered a secret bunker or the lab or something.

I think there's an underlying component of water in the movie & arg. From Josh's fascination with fish, aquariums, coelacanths to the water stained letter from Minker, Sr. to the experiments with the cube that seem to show liquid of some sort to the water tower in Lillian.

There really is something about the water, I agree. But what exactly are we trying to pinpoint?
