Oh, and while it once again hasn't led anywhere, my friend (whom I should try to convince to start posting here) pointed out that all of the people listed have "composed" something.

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart composed music
Charles Lindbergh composed (authored) books
Galileo Galilei composed scientific theories, as did Albert Einstein
Thomas Jefferson composed much of the declaration of independence
Leonardo da Vinci composed works of art.

While in different genres/mediums, the works of all six men can be described as "compositions."

Unfortunately, "composition" "composed" "composers" and "composer" did not work.

Perhaps a synonym to the word "composition" that could still be applied to all six?

perhaps the first letter of the stuff they composed? since that is how the clue is. and title is History 101, which to me means first thing in history, which might even be their birthdates or where they were born. I've tried a few, again with no luck.

Just had a thought.

We've been filling in spaces for many a puzzle now. What if that is what we're supposed to do here?

It seemed weird to me almost immediately when I saw the module that the list was double-spaced when none of the previous lists had been. It just took this long for an idea to form in my head as to a possible reason why that was.

Maybe the spaces between those letters are what we're supposed to be filling. Are there any words that use that pattern of letters? Or perhaps additional people to add to the list?

the word idea doesn't seem to be panning out.

I put the pattern through oneacross, and the best I got was twicegranted
which would have worked had it not been for the l --> d replacement.

Hi, been looking for an ARG to follow and been lurking this one. Just a heads up, new post on the wordpress:

MissION Accomplished

HWSOMLHTWMKIITTWBCSSMPIOOMTL

I'm guessing the ION is important or it wouldn't have been capitalised. Unfortunately, I have no knowledge of physics or chemistry, and I'm pretty sure ions have something to do with one of those (can't even remember which :/ )

I put the string of gibberish into a ROT translator thing but didn't come up with anything.

Unfortunately, not great at this thing - brand new to ARGs - but will continue to lurk and see if any puzzles come up that I can actually contribute to :/

Edit: Oh, I did have one thought: I noticed some of the letters from module 6, and thought maybe if you take them away from that string of letter you'll get something, but one of the letters from module 6 is missing from that string. So maybe if the letters are added to the string? ION might also be a key to some cipher or other (if that's the right terminology. Like I said, brand new to ARGs, been lurking one or two threads and just taking stabs in the dark at terminology used based purely on context)

Well, ions can be formed when an atom gains OR loses electrons, so I don't think the clue can be interpreted that way.

I tried running it through a vigenere cipher with ION and WCGATL as key phrases but it didn't work.

Anyway, welcome to the ARG community from another newbie JehosephatDostoevsky, I've only been here for like a week or two and it's fairly easy to catch on. You might want to read the ARG tutorial that's somewhere on the main UF website, it does a great job of explaining ciphers and stuff.

Ah, here we go: ARG tutorial thing

Brilliant, cheers for that tutorial.

If an ion is formed when an atom gain or loses electrons, seeing as there's no G in that string of letters, i'm tempted to think it might involve a combination of the letters from the module and the string of letters?

OOOH, another thought: the title of the todays post is MissION accomplished - and what does it say at the top of module six? Must be some connection there

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
I spotted that if you rearrange the letters into groups of seven:

HWSOMLH
TWMKIIT
TWBCSSM
PIOOMTL

And read vertically, adding punctuation appropriately, you get:

http://www.ismbook.com/ismlist.html

I presume this is a clue to the module.

well that's gotta have something to do with it right?

got something reaaaaaaaaaaaaally convoluted, but if you click on the link on the bottom of the website mentioned above, you've got a little paragraph there. Note that it says it announced changes in two ways, one of which is VERY relevant to one of the words in today's wordpress post. Could there be something hiding there in the source code? It looks like it hasn't been updated since 2006, but if you click on the website of the guy mentioned, he's still active on the internet. Maybe he's the PM? In which case there might be something hidden in the source code, but know nowt about code so don't know if there's anything there that shouldn't be.

Sorry if that sounds vague, but wasn't sure if I can mention specific things without using spoilers or whatever :/

EDIT:

Again, really convoluted, but as I've never really done an ARG before, I don't know how 'out there' we're meant to go in searching for clues! So this may be way out there, but trying to contribute anyway I can! I don't know if any of this should be in spoilers, so apologies if it should have been!

If you go the ism book guy's website, he's got a blog. On the right hand side, there's a link called "projects", a list of all the things he's planning on completing. Maybe 'Accomplished' refers to one of those projects, and that's the password? I tried a bunch of the words from that list as passwords and none worked, but mebbe one of you guys can work something out from it.

Again, really out there, very far removed from that first website, so let me know if ARGs don't normally branch out quite that far!

Hrm. Just thinking out loud here, I suppose, but what did our History 101 guys accomplish that might be on that list of isms?

Time for me to go digging, I suppose.

EDIT: my guesswork so far:

Mozart - Classicism
Lindbergh - Less clear, but perhaps communism, due to his staunch stance on the subject.

....yeah, maybe this is sputtering out.

I tried the same thing; I'm not sure if we need to stick to isms on the list or not. I haven't been able to get a sequence whose first letters work yet.

My suggestions (ones from the list in italics):

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart: Classicism, Catholicism
Charles Lindbergh: Idealism, Patriotism, Objectivism, Randism
Galileo Galilei: Heliocentrism, Copernicanism
Albert Einstein: Relativism
Thomas Jefferson: Republicianism, Anarcho-Capitalism
Leonardo da Vinci: Neo-Platonism

(I hate having to spell these words.)

I'm inclined to think we're looking for ones from the list, but I can't find one that fits for Galileo.

I'm interested in the ism book website: I couldn't find an author blog but did find a curious statement about his aims with lots of links, also the word "eudaimonia" which means happiness/human flourishing/the greatest human good in philosophy (which would technically be an accomplishment.) eudaimonia isn't the password Sad

The more I search the site the more interesting it gets: there's a guide to HTML for beginners...

If you go to the statement with the links, the links for the words "wisdom" and "reflection" are for a journal and blog respectively. He no longer updates the journal but the blog is still used. He seems to be really influenced by Ayn Rand, who I have no interested in knowing much about, so don't know if the letters have any relevance in her 'work'. Interestingly enough, in the journal, there's two entries called "My Intellectual History" parts I & II, which made me think of 'History 101', but couldn't see anything that was related.

In the blog, five of the six individuals appear in at least one entry, if you use the search bar. But it doesn't seem to contain one of them, so probably not relevant. Although, I do wonder, are we being too constrained with the six individuals? WCGATL might refer to something completely different.

I've spent a fair amount of time pouring over the guy's personal website, and don't think it's there. We were pointed specifically to the ism list, rather than the ism book homepage. So I guess it must be something on that specific page. There goes several hours of needlessly expended energy.

EDIT: One last thing I forgot to mention. In the journal entry "my intellectual history I", he mentions he was raised a Catholic. Hmm....
