[spec] "Slenderman" vs "The Operator"
I might surmise what TTA's up to.

I've always thought it was interesting that MH's creators have been so persistent in referring to That One Big Tall Guy as "The Operator" rather than Slenderman -- even when someone refers to him as Slenderman in a question/interview, they seem to subtly correct by calling him "The Operator" in response.

Couple that with the idea of people being "slenderized" (fan term, I know) -- like Masky or TTA -- and I think I have some semblance of an idea what's going on here.

I think The Operator is just that -- the "Operator". The controller/manipulator, in a sense. He takes over people like Masky and TTA and slowly erodes their will -- starting with subconscious almost-sleepwalk stuff (like Jay in "Return") and continuing until their conscious mind has been destroyed.

I think the end result of that process is someone like TTA. Like TTA, but not exactly like TTA. I think TTA has in some way managed to recover some small semblance of will and wants desperately to regain his lost humanity. Somehow, this involves going into the Slenderman's nice little forest lair we've seen recently -- which TTA refers to as "The Ark" (still speculation here).

This is why TTA is keeping tabs on Jay -- because Jay has not yet (fully) "turned." Jay is still conscious, cognizant and not (completely) a tool of The Operator yet. He also has a vested interest in keeping Jay as such -- which is why he's shown Jay the footage in Return and made statements like "you have been keeping secrets." Secrets not from the viewers, but from himself in a way. If Jay is aware of his will fading, he can somehow take steps to avoid it. Maybe those pills? Now I'm just totally stabbing in the dark.

Take it or leave it -- it's just what makes sense to me.

I always thought of Jay's sleepwalking in #24 as if he was being remotely operated.

The Operator is the name of Slenderman in this ARG universe.
But I do believe his name does fit what he does.

It's not the Operator's fault mama-Slendy named him that.

Probably because slenderman is only a surname given by random onlookers.

Maybe the operator has an actual name, but due to the fact that he seems to have a crew to operate as well as many other responsibilities and "operations" to oversee, most people call him the operator.

Like when police investigates serial killers and they don't know their name. They simply designate them by a name that represents what thye do.

I think that while the name certainly could fit his personality, it could very well just be to distinguish him from slendy so that fans aren't wondering where his tentacles are or expecting other stuff from the slendy mythos to occur.

Actually, there is in-game connection to the "Slenderman" moniker. The original posting of Marble Hornets happened on the Something Awful forum, I believe in response to or referring to the creature Victor Surge made up in the creepy photos thread. It was in-character as Jay, so he at least acknowledged the similarity between the Operator and Slenderman. That led to the Operator being referred to throughout the whole first season as Slenderman -- the Operator as the monster's name is relatively recent, having really only been confirmed by Troy and Joseph in interviews during the seven-month gap.

I suspect it was done to differentiate their monster from the sprawling, diverse Slenderman canon that's been cropping up ever since.

Ergo: In the MH universe, the Slenderman myth is derived off The Operator, not otherwise as in reality.

Cool
