"What makes a Slendy series stand apart from the rest?"

Was a question that I asked myself a while back.I remember looking at all of these Journals and Video Series and I thought to myself. "These are all pretty cool. But they arent real ARG's. Not like the the stuff the pros are making for Movies or Video Games. Most of these storylines are very very linear and do not have that fan participation aspect that the better ARG's do. Sure these stories might have a site or two devoted to themselves. But they do not intertwine and connect like the bigger ARG's do..."

So I started coming up with an ARG myself. The Greenwood Messenger. I wanted it to be something big, something massive that would lead to a certain Slendy related project I plan on releasing in the future.

So I started making the sites and twitter accounts and everything but I was basically making it up as I was going along.... I found that it was sloppy and I just wasnt happy with where it was going. So I scrapped everything I did. I realized that for there to be a massive and amazing Slendy ARG, it needs so much more planning than what I was putting into it.

I am not yet done with creating my own storyline. I already have the basic story outline and everything but I will not be executing anything until im in college (which will be later this year.) So around that time keep your eyes and ears open for what I have to share.

But the main reason I am posting this is because I have been looking at all the Slendy related journals, stories, and video logs and I am reminded of why I wanted to create one of my own in the first place. I guess I am also posting this towards anyone thinking of creating their own ARG. I just wanted to share my advice and view on the bland Journals that are popping up everywhere in hopes of finding that one Slendy ARG that will blow everything else out of the water......

Well, for one thing, if it's truly an ARG, that should set it apart at the least, seeing EMH is the only other real Slendy ARG, and the rest...aren't.

How do you plan on making it player-interactive?

Depending on the type of sites used. (And I mean actual Web sites, not Journals.) There could be different scenarios that play out where you need a password to log into something. A password that could only be found by tracking back to something said in an image or video. But these "videos" would not be something easy to get to.
These videos would need to be accessed by going to a site not on youtube and actually downloading the video files or something along those lines.

I would say research some other ARGs to get some ideas on more interactivity. Things that will make the players feel like they are in control of something, so that they feel obligated to continue the story.

Oh, and I'm not sure where, but somewhere, someone made a list of Slenderman cliches. Try to avoid as many of those as possible.

Oh, and another thing: character depth. Realistic, relatable characters.

I'm working on something resembling an ARG too that's already got some stuff laid down for people to figure out; now I'll just wait, I guess.

It's nothing on an EMH scale, but I have a big chunk of the plot planned out and, to my knowledge, it's pretty different from most other Slenderman-related plots out there.

My best advice would be to keep things manageable at first and then move on to more grandiose stuff (websites, passwords, IRL stuff) when you have a sizeable bunch of people following and the free time to pull it off.

Is there a post about all the Cliches? I need to see that.....

I gotta say after reading a few pages I have some very original and creative ideas that just blow my past story out of the water.
I am so excited to work on this more.
