 		I have come to the realization that...
I think the Slender Man Mythos is pretty much a white-dominated genre. I mean I have yet to see a person of other race be a protagonist in a Slender Man series. I should note I may be wrong and there is a vlog that I haven't heard of yet that has a non-white character, if theres you can glady point that out for me. Also, we never see people who do Slendy-blogs so I guess some of them can be non-white.

We have had a gay character (Jonclubs113, come on that lisp totally pointed it out) and a Jewish character (Jessie from EMH, the guys confirmed this on a Ustream).


Also, if I offended someone some how, I didn't mean to I'm just pointing it out.

I don't know what race the dude from UnNatural events is, but I'm fairly certain he isn't white(it's really too bad his series sucks). I think it has something to do with class distinctions (and there isn't really a large presence of minorities in the upper middle and upper class). It happens to be that people in the upper middle and upper class tend to have money to afford cameras and luxuries. If the minority presence in the upper middle and upper classes you can only expect their presence to be less likely.

I think, if you were looking for a minority character, you might look more closely at the blogs. Far more accessible to everyone, especially people who can't tape/edit videos.

 		Honestly, I think that just how the ball falls. I mean, it's really not limited so that one race can do something Slender Man related. But that generally what people are.

Personally, I wouldn't mind seeing other races (and yes, I know that Unnatural Events has a Mexican or something) so long as they do good. And that's just a general thing for all of the Slender series.

As long as they do a good job, race, religion, etc., shouldn't really matter *shrugs*

I want to know what the hell it matters. Seriously, what is the point of this topic? There's only a handful of vlogs. In the three major ones, they're mostly white. They're all also American, where 70% of the population is white. Not only that, but Slenderman is mostly a rural phenomenon. White people tend to live near woods a lot more than black people or hispanic people. Secondly, white people are richer and tend to have computers more. Even when a black family is in the same socioeconomic class as a white family they're like 10% less likely to own a computer. Slenderman was created on Something Awful and was popularized on 4chan, a community known for slinging around racial slurs. Internet culture in general is dominated by whites, and you're complaining about a handful of vlogs involving whites?

There's nothing inherently racist about the Slenderman Mythos. So what's your fucking point?

 		You see, the Slender Man is theorized to have been first created in Germany. In Germany and the surrounding countries, the most prevalent race is white. It only makes sense that, since his move to the United States, he goes for those that he is used to.

Really I just came to the realization and honestly I just wanted to see what you guys think.

Also I'm not entirely white, I'm also part native american.

I really didn't mean to offend you.

EDIT: I never said the Mythos were racist. Also I guess I should aplogize about the lisp comment, I have nothing against gays. I also didn't know that about New Jersey (unfortunely all the info I get from there is Jersey Shore).

I agree; this has no relevancy really. I'm not offended, but I think there's no reason/point to have this topic on here at all, honestly.
Then again, I'm fairly new so it might be just what this forum looks for, fff. \o/

 		Also, Noah is Jewish, which some people don't consider white. Then again, some people don't consider Irish white.

For what it's worth, I was out driving one day and I saw a black guy jogging on the road who would have made a perfect Slenderman. Super tall, super skinny, totally bald, just a few makeup applications to give him flat facial features and he'd be Slenderman. It was actually a little creepy.

 		No, I think Phenom's right. I was just talking to a friend about this the other night. I said if I was younger and less busy and had the time and energy to make a vlog, the first thing I'd do is see to it that it had a heroine as well a gay protagonist, some characters of color, etc., in addition to the standard young straight white males.

That being said, I am a (gay) white male and I don't begrudge or blame the Slendyvlogs for the current demographic make-up. I don't blame any of the filmmakers for that. This thing grew out of young people on the Internet, college campuses, etc. and that's just how things worked out. I don't find any of these vlogs to be racist or whitewashed or anything like that, and I don't think their cultural makeup has any bearing on how good the big 3 are - and they are very good. I do think that in the future there can and should be more onscreen diversity, but I do not think MH/EMH/TT/etc set out to be "all white" or anything. I think they just got together with friends and family and put on a show. And anyone, of any ethnicity or orientation or gender, can do the same.

Yes, I agree with this. Also, for the people who say the reason is because more minoritys live in the inner-city and Slendy lives in the forest, I don't think I mind seeing Slendy in da hood.

 		Frankly, I don't think it matters what race someone is. If their blog is good, then that's all that matters.

There could also be the idea that people of certain descent may have a higher connection to Slendy; e.g. German woodcuts used in the mythos ----> German guy being Slenderstalked? There aren't any African or Hispanic myths that have been used yet...at least, I don't think so...that would be a really great idea if anyone could think of some, actually.

Say, if someone of Middle Eastern heritage were to make a Slendervlog, I wonder what people would think. There are some great Zoroastrian myths that tie in wonderfully. <3
