[OT] Which do you find more frightening?
Masky or the Operator?

This has probably been brought up before, but I never saw it if it was. Since I basically have nothing to do until the next entry pops up, I figured I'd ask you guys. Fears are an interest of mine.

Personally? The Operator scares me shitless. Masky is at least (supposedly) human enough to deal with, and if I have a maglite sitting around, it wouldn't be hard to fend for myself. With Slenderman... Buh.

The Operator is so creepy. I guess he freaks me out more. I just <3 Masky. I can't be afraid of him ^^;

The operator, especially after this entry, J kicks masky's ass alot.....

and the operator can be ANYWHERE and you'd never know it.

The Operator. Both of them hide their motives and do creepy things, but Masky comes across as a victim (while the Operator seems more malicious). Plus the Operator is alien enough to be sitting in the middle of the uncanny valley, while Masky is still recognizably human.

The Operator overall. But the one time in Entry 18 when Masky appears on the couch and suddenly lunges after J has been, for me, the scariest moment in the entire series.

Masky. Why doesn't anyone else find him more frightening? He's actually run up and attacked Jay more than once. I don't think I've ever seen the Operator try to knock someone's block off. Most he's ever done is walk around and look weird. Don't you think you might be judging the poor fellow based on his different appearance? Shame on you.

Not to mention that Masky is a total creeper who likes to take candid videos of you and post them on the internet. Also, he likes to sit in your bed while you sleep, and take your bullet casings.

What Masky does is much more real and terrifying than anything we've seen the Operator do.

The operator definitely. Some of his appearances are down right horrifying. Like in that one totheark video where jay is tied up and he walks towards the camera.

EDIT:

Thats just it though. What masky does is too real. You could see it happening. Also the two times he has attatcked jay directly Jay flat out kicked his ass. The operators inhuman form and actions are what make him clearly creepier. When Masky makes a appearance I'm always like "Yay its masky!" but when the operator in full form makes a appearance I turn down the volume and look away from the screen slightly, he freaks me out.

It's kind of a weird draw for me.

When it comes to in-game appearances, it's gotta be Masky. Every entry he's appeared in on the MH channel has had me jumping, and his appearances in the TTA videos are really freaking unsettling. The Operator is pretty frightening as well, but sometimes I almost 'expect' him, and other times could barely see him (especially in earlier 'in the woods' videos) and wasn't too phased (although that scene in the daylight outside the bathhouse... *shudden*)

That said, out-of-game, I've become much more unsettled by the Operator than I have been by Masky. It's the general idea of his presence that freaks me out - I'm not entirely sure he can be 'seen' without looking through the viewfinder of a camera (we've never seen him otherwise) which has led me (ironically enough, a film major) to shy away from filming without reason in my house. I guess fear of being alone in my home stems a bit too from reading 'House of Leaves', but MH hasn't helped that paranoia haha.

I feel like out-of-game, even I, a mildly-overweight and pretty out-of-shape guy, could take Masky in a fight. That said, the whole paranormal element of his presence might freak me out more if it actually happened.

He's not terrifying to me just because we've seen 'villains' like him in plenty of movies. Crazies who pounce on you and such. Not saying if it WAS me in that situation, I'd be scared of him just as much. But in MH the Operator just makes the hairs on my neck stand up and sends chills up my spine ;-;

This is a hard question. I may have to give it a draw too.

Masky makes me jump (but so does The Operator, of course), so I have the insta-fear, but TO has that amazing atmospheric thing going for him.

But then you have the idea that when Masky shows up, J can beat him down (as was proven last entry). With TO, you just have to run, and hope for the best. Because if HE gets you, you don't stand a chance.

So they both scare me pretty equally, but in different ways. But after reading though my post, maybe I'll give it to The Operator.

Maybe it's just that I don't see the Operator as particularly malicious. His intentions are unclear, and his appearance is unsettling, but so far he hasn't caused any direct harm. Fear of the Operator is pretty much just fear of the unknown. I don't think you should be afraid of the unknown, just cautious of it.

Masky, on the other hand, is aggressive, and he attacks unprovoked. Both times Jay has taken him down were mostly because of luck; First, Masky happened to seize, and second, Jay happened to have a weapon. I'd hate to think what would happen if things leaned more in Masky's favor. (Probably just this again.)

But then, I'm super afraid of baddies in videogames that attack you for no reason. And Masky is just one of those baddies to me.

And Milkdudds, I'm so glad you understand. We gotta give that poor, slender fellow a chance.

I'd go with Slendy. I mean, I know we've never actually seen him do much more than stand around looking creepy, but knowing that he has the POTENTIAL to totally destroy you makes him freakier than Masky.

Generally speaking, Slender is scarier because he's, you know, a faceless tentacled monster who apparently drives people crazy by existing. Masky is a guy in a mask.

Although, I do get more paranoid about Masky when I'm in my house, simply because the ceilings are to low for Slender to stand up straight. All I can picture is him trying to slend into my room and bumping his head on the doorframe. Yeah. Very Happy

The Operator. Definitely. He has already (probably) murdered someone, and even before that, it was alluded to that he hurt Alex in that one entry--that one with the scariest entrance to a bedroom that I've ever seen. Not to mention, he also drives people insane and fucks with their memory.

Masky on the other hand, isn't all that scary. If he wanted to hurt Jay, then he kinda fails at it. If he doesn't want to, then he's still not scary. Plus, every time I see/think about his 'scariest' moment--whenever he lunges at Jay--all I can think about are those goddamn Stalkers from Dead Space 2. Now, those are scary. My heart skips a bead every time I see one of their heads pop out from behind a crate and just look and then OHSHIT IT CHARGED I'M SHOOTING WHY ISN'T IT SLOWING DOWN ARGH I'M ALMOST DEAD (shoulda used stasis). It doesn't help that they are the most intelligent enemies in the game (often working in groups to trick you), rarely show up alone, and will actually tear your limbs off, bash your head until you pass out/die, and drag your body/corpse god only knows where to do god only knows what. Masky isn't so scary after that.
