Heh. I hadn't gotten around to reading that, but it's not that much of a reach. I thought it was an obvious idea right back from when we first read that email from rootSPLATlittle-boxes.net.

Once the "commotion" of talking to Beth on AIM calms down, I'm sure we'll be examining these in detail...

Thats one heck of a first date.. :)

[joking]Maybe 'friend' had to shop for some bootleg goods, or needed to pick up some weapons[/joking]

I've added these locations to my summer trip itenerary, but I'm afraid they won't let me back into the USA if I do actually go to each of them.. *sigh*

I don't even think this is a bold statement, but I think it's safe to say that the idea that this is simply an X-Files case involving the paranormal is wrong. It's definitely involving AI. And Beth is trying to figure out his purpose, meanwhile "My Friend" as he is currently called, is controlling the world around him.

Uh, if this is an AI and he is controlling things like weather and levitating things, controlling certain things in the world that Beth lives in, would that not imply that the world Beth lives in is a program? Are you going to call me captain obvious or say that I'm reaching for something that isn't there?

I think "captain obvious" would be the correct choice, but that's just me. You've got Metacortex, Thomas Anderson is transferred, you've got pictures of some guy in a suit and sunglasses wearing an earpiece. Now you've got AI man changing the world around him which obviously must be a program. Er, unless the world is in fact real, and AI man's purpose is some sort of experiment for the weapon's division.

Ah, well, still inconclusive isn't it... Rolling Eyes

In all seriousness (just... disregard what I said up there ^) I think that the AI man, whatever his original purpose is, his purpose now is self-deletion. Just an idea.

Also can someone actually plot those points out on a visual map? We know the locations, but what does it look like on a map. I can figure out on my own, but I have no idea how to post it here.

Well, I for one would never call you 'Captain Obvious' Wink , but I think we have two groups of people playing here: those that are willing to play as in-game 'characters', but while on the forum go all out with the philosophy and Matrix references (I think we're both in that group Niobexrev); and then you have those people who would prefer to play as type of in-game 'character' both while talking to Beth and whilst in the forums. Until they get some undeniable truth that the Matrix exists; ie Neo flying in and rescuing Beth from an exploding eighteen-wheeler, they're going to continue to play Devil's Advocate. Don't get me wrong; I think that's a good thing - keeps us grounded, but at the same time at can be like trying to convince sceptics that UFOs really do exist. Just my 2cents (although it's probably worth less Confused )

Check this thread for the map, Niobexrev: http://forums.unfiction.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=29578#29578
And, sorry, I'd already typed up my reply and didn't realise you wanted me to disregard what you'd said! Ah well...

What a night! I don't think that I got more than 10 minutes of sleep. There's just so much to think about and it's so difficult to truly accept. I went for a short walk this morning. There is so much beauty in this world. The details of every branch, every leaf. The clouds, even when completely covering the sky, have patterns that only nature could make. I've never really looked at this stuff before. The world is truly a magnificent place. I'm going to take Laika down to the lake to run around. I hope that "My Friend" will be there.

Does anyone else see the irony? That Beth's "world" may very well be virtual reality?

If nature is a program, maybe...

Well, arguably, if you're a mathematician or an intense computer programmer, you can find beauty in algorithms and 1's and 0's.
I wonder if computer programmers and hackers would be more able to adapt to the knowledge of the Matrix then? That, while they might acknowledge it's evil, they might see beauty - "the boundaries of perfection" - in the coding of the Matrix?

11:30 "My Friend" approached me during our time at the lake. He was curious if I enjoyed my trip, which I did. I explained that as nice as it was, humans enjoy taking time to soak up the culture and environment of their travels. That as nice as the journey was, it didn't allow for that and left me with more questions. If he could bend the laws of time to allow me to travel so quickly, could he bend the laws of time and affect things in the past or in the future.

I challenged him to remove the wind, a repeat of a test from yesterday. The ripples on the lake suddenly stopped and the air was still., which he did. Just as I suspected, the effect only lasted a few minutes. I then asked him to do the same thing, only 10 minutes later. To my surprise, it happened. Once again, the effect only lasted a short time.

As we walked back to the campsite, I attempted to question him on how exactly he controls the wind. Instead of answering, he questioned me about my perception of the wind, how it looks and feels. That led to a discussion of the way that humans perceive the world and each other. It was all very interesting, though I really wish that he would have answered me. I would like to know how he perceives the world. Is our world, our society, nothing but a system of intertwining parts? Did he see the beauty in the moss covered path?

You think that's air you're breathing, Beth?

But does that mean he is able to "affect the future"? Did he actually do something like put in a command now to change the wind in 10 minutes, or did he just wait ten minutes to change the wind?
