I think this is a good point. Neo can't teleport... he had to fly 500 miles to save Trinity. Agents can't teleport, they have to take over a coppertop.
Who is this guy that can rewrite the matrix as he sees fit (though for a limited time), yet also teleport to anywhere in the world in the blink of an eye - with passangers!

I don't think he does teleport. He just changes Beth's perception of the world around her so that she thinks she is someplace she isn't. Remember, she didn't have a GPS -- all she had to go on were her senses and what her Friend told her...

Ed zachary. I mean, exactly.
Beth's log wrote:
As we walked back to the campsite, I attempted to question him on how exactly he controls the wind. Instead of answering, he questioned me about my perception of the wind, how it looks and feels. That led to a discussion of the way that humans perceive the world and each other. It was all very interesting, though I really wish that he would have answered me.
I vote for "her friend" altering her perception.
[joking] Maybe he's an amphetamine or barbituate....?? [/joking]

Do we know for certain that she didn't have a GPS? How was she getting those lat/long co-ords? Do we think her 'friend' supplied them?

Yes, she mentioned to one of us that her friend was telling her the coordinates.

Well, arguably, if you're a mathematician or an intense computer programmer, you can find beauty in algorithms and 1's and 0's.
I wonder if computer programmers and hackers would be more able to adapt to the knowledge of the Matrix then? That, while they might acknowledge it's evil, they might see beauty - "the boundaries of perfection" - in the coding of the Matrix?
this relates to a series of posts a page back about the clouds being natural etc. landscapes can be gnerated randomly by computer using fractals: http://www.fractal-landscapes.co.uk
[offtopic] this technique has been used to generate backgrounds for films such as LOTR.

Additionally, they did not stay anywhere long enough to "soak up the culture and environment." I am guessing that they did not get a chance to talk to anyone, which conveniently lends to the theory of an artificially perceived location. It would be relatively ("relatively" in Matrix terms, at least) easy to generate/alter a landscape. It would be much more difficult for him to alter her senses such that she believed she was interacting with a real, living person.

Thanks!
As regards Laika, there has been some spec. that Kat might have done something to her (him?) while Beth was on vacation, but it has yet to be confirmed.

And yeah, I subscribe to the theory that something is "up" with Laika... I just don't know what.

Exactly. I think that's correct.
Which means the right answer is certainly something else.
I think that this concept, though, is the key to her investigating his/its power and function. What way can this friend show its function to her in a way that isn't simply a trick of her perception?
With us expecting that this will lead us "behind the curtain" into the real world instead of the incredible simulation - an expectation that we only have because we expect this to be Matrix related - how can we be the catalyst for her taking the red pill? And what/where is the red pill?

08:03 Plans have changed! I have found "My Friend." I asked him his name and he said that I could call him "My Friend." I suppose that's better than "Strange Man." He seems troubled that I am here and keeps telling me that he needs to work. He doesn't seem to understand what he should be working on though. His primary concern when we last met was his communication system. That has been repaired and is working properly. His other systems seem to be in order. However he has no knowledge of his "purpose in the system." I have not been able to discover who developed him or how. We certainly have nothing this advanced at Metacortex. The communication system alone is beyond what we have been able to do. It's fascinating.
OK, I've written a bunch of comments about the bold part above, but erased them all. I think I'd rather hear you guys comment on what you think of that.
