1. What does AI Man look like? Should ask what he's wearing, and if he has any items with him (cell phone? ear piece?). I know some of you have asked this already, but I think it is important to make sure we get this info. Maybe even show her a picture to compare?

http://metacortechs.netninja.com/ethan/chicago/12.29.2001/20011229025.jpg

If anyone can get her to look at the picture, anything but a certain "no" would be interesting. Even though the picture isn't clear, if she is unsure if it is him in that photo, that says a lot.

While I agree with showing the picture to her, maybe move that picture to a different server. Are we still supposed to act like we don't know everything we do (like the fact that we've hacked her little-boxes archive)? BriEnignma's archive has EVERYTHING about the game so far. I'm sure Beth is very bright and it doesn't take much to start looking around at the site this picture came from...

Just have someone else host that one picture.

Actually no. It was correctly dated for Sunday. It was up yesterday. Nice observations though.

I'm not sure I understand... if it was supposed to be posted at 8:48pm Sunday night, then why does she refer to the morning coming very early?

If it is supposedly posted this morning, then the day is wrong.

Am I having a blonde moment?

No Wink

I think it's a typo. It should say Monday.

I agree - it should be Monday. She already has log entries for Sunday up to hour 18:36.

Because my computer is being a complete idiot and not clearing its cookies (I'm at work, I don't have permission). And I thought you posted the 18:36 post. I just saw "8" and jumped and shot off the mouth.

Hehe no problem. I'm actually blonde so I'm used to having blonde moments, heh. Smile It wouldn't have surprised me!

Okay, this is just spec but here goes:

The Merovingian is able to create his own realm within, but free from, the matrix. He is a daemon program, a hold over from the older versions of the Matrix. What if this guys is a similar program and is, therefore, able to merge Beth's "reality" with the one he has created?

I think she went thru some kind of time warp...

Last paragraph from saturday was:

Code:
23:33 Going to bed. It has been a long and interesting day. I'm still very confused and overwhelmed by it all. "My Friend" still has not returned. I wonder where he went and if he'll return tomorrow. I hope that he does as I received a lot of great ideas from friends, both new and old, in chat tonight.

And the first for the second sunday seems to refer to that one :

Code:
08:48 Morning has come very early. I spent several hours last night chatting with friends, both new and old, about the situation. It really helps to have so much input, especially when I have just been so overwhelmed by the situation. I can usually look at a 'problem' or 'situation' and analyze it rather quickly. With this, I didn't now where to start or what to do. I came here without a plan and without knowing how I was needed. It was, at the same time, frustrating and invigorating.

I'll try to contact her when she'll be online to ask her what day she think it is.

I think it was probably just a typo. Even if she did, she would probably notice that there are a few entries she doesn't remember making.

I don't think that there is a difference, in the Matrix, between reality and perception of reality. Isn't that exactly what Morpheus said in M1?

Morpheus wrote:
What is real? How do you define real? If you're talking about what you can feel, what you can smell, what you can taste and see, then real is simply electrical signals interpreted by your brain.
(for the record, if anyone's worried about my sanity, I did not quote that from memory)

I think there are philosophers who argue the same about our world, but I don't really know details, so I'll just drop that and concentrate on the Matrix.

Basically, we have no proof about anything external to ourselves besides what our senses tell us. Take a look at this quote:
Beth wrote:
While Laika ran around in the clearing, the shack suddenly became very distorted. I asked him if it was my perception or if it was the shack itself. He replied with a cryptic answer of how everything is as it is perceived. Had he not just taken away my sense of taste or smell, I would have believed that it was the shack itself. Now I'm wondering if it was my eyes.

The AI dude says himself that there is no difference between Beth's perception of the house and its "reality," because the reality is defined by her perception. So, taking how he made the fire "actually" cold since it didn't burn anything...what he could have done was make it so that Beth would not see/feel anything burn, and would experience no effects of the burning. If he did that, then you can't argue that the objects really burned, because...according to who? Who saw them burn? There is no proof. Everyone's senses say that the objects did NOT burn. If someone else came into the clearing and stumbled into the fire, the AI man could make it so that Beth and person #2 both see/feel nothing happen to the person as a result of the fire. How would you then be able to argue that this is different from if the AI dude had simply "really" made the fire cold?

My head hurts. Did any of that make sense? I think that's the direction we're supposed to go in, given Beth's repeated emphasis on perceptions and the AI dude's curiosity about human perceptions.

I don't see the whole time warp thing...look at these differences:

Saturday night:
Quote:
23:33 Going to bed. It has been a long and interesting day. I'm still very confused and overwhelmed by it all. "My Friend" still has not returned. I wonder where he went and if he'll return tomorrow. I hope that he does as I received a lot of great ideas from friends, both new and old, in chat tonight.

"Sunday" morning (Monday):

Quote:
I stayed up far to late last night. I spent hours after getting off the computer talking with him and trying to help him. I used many of the wonderful suggestions that I received and feel that we are getting close. I need to have a cup (a pot?) of coffee and try to make some sense of my notes. I'll keep everyone posted.

Anyway, there have been indications that he can't affect the past...and this would be sending Beth into the past.
I vote for typo. Maybe Beth doesn't like Mondays and is in denial about the end of the weekend. Very Happy

Edited for brevity.

My head hurts. Did any of that make sense? I think that's the direction we're supposed to go in, given Beth's repeated emphasis on perceptions and the AI dude's curiosity about human perceptions.

You make a very good point Omnie, but how far do we take it? If we completly expose the world to Beth to show her what it truly is, are we doing the right thing? I only ask this, not because I sympathise with Cypher, but because of what happened to Neo when he 'woke' up; there isn't anyone on the 'outside' waiting to pick Beth up, is there? She could end up drowning in all that sewage, and then where does that leave us?
