And if Slenderman wasn't an antagonist, he just wants a friend, why would he burn down someone's apartment, apparently rip someone to shreds(#29), cause head bleeding, and the disappearance of five people.

with much of it, there is little evidence pinning it on slendy over, perhaps, TheArk. In fact, the apartment is pretty much garunteed TTA; anyways, can you really envision slenderman pouring gas all over the place and the struggling with a lighter?

Apparently, we will be led to it.

Weren't fires a big part of the original Slender Man stories? I always took it as The Operator's doing in 25.

The very first story and pictures by Victor Surge were about a library fire.

Well, enttry #37 shows that Marble Hornets is at least a little influenced by the original stories. Why wouldn't it be The Operator who burned Jay's appartment?

I'm not sure that we can even ascribe enough agency to the Operator to talk about whether it's a 'good' or bad' creature at all.

If it has goals and motivations at all, then its methods are obtuse and alien enough to completely obscure them. The Operator certainly isn't trying to accomplish anything as blunt and simple as 'kill Alex and Jay.' It has had ample opportunity to do that, but never follows through.

The only thing we really know for sure about its actions is that it is attracted to people who have filmed it, and it is possibly attracted to people that are aware of its existence and actively think about it. Alex and Jay have both discovered this on some intuitive level, and they both temporarily escaped being haunted by foreswearing any further investigations into the Operator.

Whether this attraction more like a wolf being drawn to its prey or an iron filing being drawn to a magnet is an open question. The Operator is inhuman enough that I tend to think of it more as a force than as a sapient being.
