Well I've just returned and by god the full force of last night has struck me. That was amazing! Some of us actually getting the chance to speak to an in-game character! And by what she said I think it might happen again! I was thinking this link the PMs have established is a good way for them to find out what we know and what we don't and maybe help get all of us up to speed.
Well whatever is going on, lastnight was a major turning point in the game and definitely deserves a chapter in the book. Very Happy

Amen to that, Insomniac! Heck, I'm still shaking! (Although that might just be the weather Wink). Although, I would have thought that a far easier way to find out the extent of our knowledge would be to simply come to unfiction, rather than inundate themselves with Instant Messages Confused . Either way, as Joel Silver is so fond of saying, they've raised the bar so high on this one the bar ain't nothing more now than a little dot on the horizon! Cool

I'm still thinking about Oman. And I am curious to see what information on it is yet to come from her end.

Best hypothesis I have at present, which isn't that great, is that if there is something to it, it is related to the dot on the Metacortex directory map. Perhaps Metacortex does have a project there, but they don't want to draw attention to it so they give it the name of another middle-eastern location, assuming people won't know geography. But that's pretty weak on two or three counts. Alternatively, it could be something to do with the location of 01 in the animatrix, but since that would be completely unverifiable, it doesn't seem too likely either.

Still, it seems that there must be some importance in the one location that wasn't near a population center. I still have yet to discern a clear connection between all the stops, even if I exclude Paris. And more accurate locations for the ones I thought were Alexandria and Tel Aviv are, it turns out, Cairo and Jerusalem if you look on a bigger map. FYI.

I'm still thinking about it. If I crack it, this board will be the first to know.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought the Animatrix said that 01 was located in southern Iraq (I think the animation might even have zoomed in on that area; unfortunately I don't have the DVD on me at the moment so I can't check). They might have just said the place where humanity first technologically arose, in which case 01 could potentially be located anyway along the Fertile Crescent.
(You like maps, nonlocality? Well, I love history! Very Happy )

Sorry, I forgot to answer part of your question. No, I very much doubt the coordinates were wrong. She gave them more than once, in IMs and on her site. I think the comment about how she could have gotten the minutes wrong was a way of covering for the fact that that spot had such a recent picture online. There's no way that one set of coordinates is without minutes just by accident. I don't buy that, not with how carefully this has been set up so far.

Since you know maps better than I do, nonlocality, I'll take your word for it. Smile

They say the cradle of humanity, which is the fertile crescent in southern Iraq. But I think I remember noticing that it doesn't actuall show iraq, it shows Saudi Arabia. More towards the center though I think. And if it is southern Iraq that they show, that would put it not too far from the real location of Kuwait City, which is put in central oman on the directory map.

But like I said, I think that is not going to be a fruitful line of inquiry anyway. And I loves me some history too.

My real passion is physics though.

If anyone is going to try and talk to her now you get this:

Quote:

insomniac uf: Beth are you around?
Auto response from bethlmcconnell: I am currently away from the computer.

It seems we think alike. Smile

poor beth, her computer is going to explode from the sheer number of people repeatedly asking her the same questions again and again.

has anyone looked for a pattern in the coordinates, I was thinking maybe it might be similar to the anormalies.
hopefully we can get some more answers from beth soon.

Yeah, in the Animatrix they say 01 is located in the cradle of human civilsation, which was ancient Mesopotamia, which is now (roughly) Iraq. The Fertile Crescent is the old Mespotamian plain.

In the MetaCortex directory, the nearest office they have is Kuwait City, but you are right, the dot on the MetaCortex map is not Kuwait City, it is in Oman, pretty close to the location Beth was taken to.

Interesting, eh?

To go further, compare this (the lat/long of Beth's Oman visit):

http://tinyurl.com/v7nf
(hope that works)

to the directory map on the MetaCortex site.

Is that supposed to be pointed at Canada? If so, you've marked directly overtop of where I live, almost exactly.

Parity, did you actually read the conversation? You seem to be repeating things that have already been advanced. I'm not sure what the additional data here is supposed to be.

Oooo, get you. I was just trying to help by showing a map of the Oman location so it could be compared to the MetaCortex map. Possibly the tinyurl didn't work, if so I am sorry. But I was agreeing with you. Sad

You could try this one:
