The link worked fine for me; the map was a nice visual link, so that I could just be clear exactly where we were talking about was actually located. No need to catfight guys, we're all friends here Razz . (I don't quite get Styles' reference to Canada though? What's up with that?)

Re: she said she will be back in about an hour

O.k. here's the deal I have been reading through these pages again and have been considering the "beth is a bot" idea. The more I think about it and especially after reading Sunny's comments I find myself believing it more and more. Someone please convince me otherwise. Sad

Sunny du Pree wrote:
A bot can be controlled by the programmer so that if there is a question that the programmer wants to answer he can answer for the bot while the conversation is going....
ALSO
IF this is a bot one of the problems that we had with "sarah" is that if you asked her too many questions at once she would bog down and you had to wait a much longer for her to respond...
sounds like that is happening in chat with beth.
If you get beth again trying asking one question at a time and let her respond then ask your next...IF it is a bot I THINK that the questions are qued in line so she answers a question then moves on to the next person around and around...
ALSO
you would never be able to get the bot into IRC or a chat room and that looks like what is going on here too. beth isnt even aware of what a chat room is...convienient?

But as always these are spec and not neccesarrly endoursed by the sponsers or this establishment

Okay, but seriously, I don't think we can determine if the Beth we communicated with last night was a bot or human; maybe if she communicates with us again, which seems likely (I hope!), then perhaps we can apply the Turing test, or some more up-to-date equivalent?

In rebuttal: Do remember that Japanese online player (I think he was Japanese; I could be wrong), who played one of the MMORPG for four or five days straight, without taking a break (going to the toilet, or even eating); his poor mother eventually found him dead at his keyboard, starved and dehydrated.
So, I suppose if we're willing to push ourselves, we can stay in front of the monitor for as long as we stay alive...

EDIT: Why are you so concerned that she might be a bot, Insomniac? You weren't really hoping to meet her in real life now were you? Wink

Not sure if anyone thought there was a link or if this means anything, but here is some more of my conversation that Beth left after I went away...

Bradshonavon1 (7:43:35 PM): How many people are IMing you now?
Bradshonavon1 (7:46:22 PM): Does your friend know what happened to Mr. James Avery?
bethlmcconnell (8:28:33 PM): right now there are about 23 people msging me, it's slowed down a bit.
bethlmcconnell (8:28:45 PM): How would he know about James?

Also, I tried to throw in "A-OK" as many times as I could, hoping for her to say "my friend Kat says that too"... but she didn't Sad

I don't understand how you could read through all of these conversations and still think it was a bot. If it was a bot, it was the most intelligent bot ever created in the history of time.

Agreed....

There are too many instances of her being gone and then going back and answering questions that had been asked in a row...

I third? that idea. I just don't see how she could be a bot. I've never seen any AI that intelligent. At least, MetaCortechs doesn't have anything even close to it. The communication systems especially. But should I bring in a competitor's AI?

Whoops...got too into it...
