Completely [OT]

Does anyone else feel that someone like JJ Abrams or Frank Darabont need to contact Troy and Joseph for ideas on creating a good movie?

So many directors nowadays go for shocktainment, quick cuts and dramatic scores to make the film "scary". When in reality setting the mood for an ominous, otherworldly antagonist that apparently cannot be killed is the best way to creep people out (i.e the original ANoES).

If you compare how many people LOVE MH (as I do) compared to the last 10 horror movies (Case 39, The Wolfman, Daybreakers, The Crazies, Legion etc) I'd say the MH fans win in sheer numbers, and also in intelligence.

We have dissected these to the point that every frame has been scrutinized for clues (kind of like Super Cool. And still Troy and Joseph have said a couple times now that we have missed a couple puzzles/clues.

I know I'm not doing proper paragraphs but knowing how unfiction likes to streeeeeeech it makes for easier reading.
P.S. Where do I go to post OT threads in the future?

Look for the General Discussion and Off Topic threads.

But, in regards to what you said, I think if anyone were to help with a Marble Hornets/Slender Man movie it should be JJ Abrams, most definiately.

I am consistently unimpressed by Super 8's ridiculous CGI-fest.

Troy and Joseph need money and actors. JJ Abrams is nothing special IMO.

I wasn't aware any of JJ's material (Lost, Alias, Fringe, MI3, Star Trek) was comparable to MH.
Especially not the unreleased Super 8, which is supposed to be a throwback movie to the good Spielberg days, not a horror/suspense flick.
The most comparable work to MH he's been involved with was Cloverfield, and *braces for flame attack* I think Cloverfield blows MH out of the water on several levels.

While I did enjoy Cloverfield (and have it on blu-ray) theres more of a level of realism with MH. I actually just finished everything up to now on EMH and MH blows that out of the water, except for maybe the last post by EMH. The main purpose of my OP wasn't really to compare MH to Abrams. It was merely a question of can a good/decent Hollywood director take notes from these guys and maybe make a flick that we are actually scared of?

Ahh, I was referring to the poster above me who essentially belittled JJ (who I think is one of the best in the business in terms of original content.)

As for actually scary movies that aren't "jumpy" so much as they are suspenseful, I can really only offer up the Blair Witch Project, and the Ring. So yes, I think some directors could take notes from the MH style.

I watched The Blair Witch Project a few weeks ago and I fairly enjoyed it because it seemed set up like an ARG.

Whether or not MH was inspired by it, they're still similar and I like it.
