I don't really have too much extra to say, it's all been said, but I would like to note that I am quite pleased with the story progression in Season Two.

In the first season it was all "okay, this, this and this is happening, but you don't know why".

In the second season, it's been "okay, this, this and this is happening, but this shows a good idea of why, along with why this, this and this happened in season one".

This is the first piece of good exposition in the series since the reveal of Jessica's "backstory", and before that it was pretty much just Tim in #15.

I'm fairly happy with this entry and I want moar. Very Happy

In the entry there is a figure in the background that neither Jay nor Alex seem to notice or don't care to notice this person is male, wears a black shirt, dark blue jeans and seems to have brown or dark blonde hair. My friend was the first to notice this and i have confirmed it, while i don't have an exact time that he appears i do know he starts showing up after Jay has the camera upside down (0:27).

 insight....

I think this video gives a lot of information with the origin of slenderman. I think that he was most likely someone convicted of rape and put on the tree. Then he was possibly possessed by a demon or something so he just kept stretching out. Then, when they burned the tree he was freed, but his face burned off. Then he stalked children and instead of raping them delimbed them. The demon would also explain the tentacles

This is most likely J because after that is when Alex hands him the camera

I'm pretty positive that's Jay. It seems to me that after the cut, Alex was holding the camera, and then Alex hands the camera to Jay.

This can't be J because Alex was in the camera POV and he and jay were the only ones there.

Going to pass over the story Alex relates here, others have that pretty well covered.

First question: Where does this take place? Alex says "when I first moved here" which strongly suggests its somewhere he lived. This means either: 1. its the hometown of Jay, or 2. its wherever Alex moved after getting rid of the MH tape.

If its 1, then why doesn't Jay know this story, and why is he unfamiliar with the surroundings? Mind you, Alex did live on the outskirts so he might just know the area better, plus I assume they've been walking for most of the duration of a tape - this could be several hours and well out of Jay's known area.

If its 2, then this has some odd implications about Alex's moving. It implies he wasn't running away from Jay's hometown, but moving towards something. It could just be coincidence, but it seems strange that he would end up somewhere with a local legend with such familiar themes.

Second question: Who uploaded this?

No, seriously. Jay's twitter:
Quote:
The tapes aren't with me, and the footage I copied to my laptop has apparently been deleted.

Its possible that Jay stashed the tapes somewhere before he blanked out. Hence, when he says he has to get back, its to the motel or wherever he's deposited them. In his trance-y state he never collected them when leaving. Alternatively, if he'd been keeping them in a safe somewhere as a matter of course (which might be likely given how the season started) he went 'back' to wherever that is.

The other (mopre disturbing) option is that Jay lost the tapes. Certainly his twitter suggests he did. If Jay has no tapes, Jay can't have uploaded any footage from them. People have mentioned both the absence of a link in twitter, and the odd misspelled description on the video. Clearly his account isn't very secure, and I doubt the video style is hard to immitate. This doesn't seem in the style of TTA / ##### either... but there's still those anomalies, and I can't see quite where Jay would have his tapes. You'd imagine at least some sort of tweet saying "Back at my last hotel, tapes ok in safe deposit at reception. Upload later." I remain suspicious....

Jay is a bit away from Alex. Notice how when he says "It's getting dark, Alex" it seems distant and then gets closer?

It's Jay.

Also, I know you quoted awakeasaurusrex, but their post was in response to something I said and I don't want to be seen as mixing continuities.

My bad. My brain just clicked when you mentioned Yggdrasil, since that's been the only Slendy series I knew of that actively incorporated Norse mythology into its plot.

Besides, the relevant connection between the Operator and this entry could be something far simpler than we think. Occam's Razor and all that.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
I'd say the vague witchhunt-esque Slender Man origin with the convicts tied to trees will probably be as "close" to a definitive backstory as we're going to get. I say this mostly because I still can't get over the fact that MH itself wouldn't have come about without that original SomethingAwful thread, which seemed to take a lot of inspiration from Puritanical imagery while they where brainstorming the Slender Man (I think? I'm not fully well-versed in this area of history and I may need to read that thread again).

Actually now that i think about it that is probably Jay i just rewatched the video and it makes sense.

Loved this entry. A good just-before-school suprise

Alex's Slenderlore was creepy, and I feel like we're getting back to the original mythology, with yet another reference to Slenderman going after children, people getting set on fire, the trees, etc. And Alex's "come here" just scares the crap out of me. It's like that moment in a horror film where you just wanna yank the dude out of the movie and tell them NOT to follow him.

I can only wonder what the next TTA response will be. I'm picturing a Return esq shot of Jay passed out tied up to a tree 0_o

Villain sensor in overdrive!

WARNING! WARNING! VILLAIN DETECTED!

---

So who else had the thought that this is near the place for noentry and Alex tries to kill J, ends up dead via Operator/ Masky /TTA/Jessica and J comes back later with the chest-cam to find him in that tunnel?

Trying to figure out the chronology here.

Alex isn't wearing his glasses. I don't think I've ever seen that before.

Alex was definitely wearing them both before and after the fight with Tim, and during his argument with Jay in the car park. This means that #38 can't have happened on the way to from the house in #35.

I think this might be a really old entry, before Alex started wearing glasses. His aggressive exploration of the forest and its associated mythology might have been what provoked the Operator in the first place.

i didn't notice the glasses thing at all, interesting. could prove to be very relevant in the future, maybe alex lost his glasses in some kind of encounter or scuffle (that we haven't seen yet)

but i think this is definitely post marble hornets filming - i guess it could have happened at any point after entry 19 when J begins to film himself. (notice that J is filming himself obsessively to the point that he has to change tapes to make sure he catches everything, as well as filming a long walk where alex isnt saying anything and nothing is happening)

This Entry is almost certainly pre-MH. Jay laughs at the very idea of "ghost stories." No way he'd be like that if either he or Alex had seen the operator, since, in the case of the former, he'd believe in the supernatural, or, in the latter case, he'd be seriously trying to convince Alex he'd been seeing things or that he's just being paranoid. Either way, Jay is WAAY too casual for this to have been taken while they were aware of being Slendy stalked.

Pardon if it's assholish to quote oneself here, but:

This footage can't come from before season 1, because Jay and Alex's relations are nowhere near as friendly as they were in Entry #5, for example. Also, Alex pretty much described the Operator in his talk - he's trying to make sense of this clusterfuck as well, and the folklore tale was the sanest possibility he had.

Jay is not laughing at ghost stories - he's visibly unsettled by Alex's behavior.

Also, as someone mentioned, Jay was taping the entire thing - he didn't do that until several weeks before the events of #18.

A lot does point to it being pre-MH, however, I disagree simply on the basis that he had the camera handy. I don't think he really got into that craze until after it had been going on for awhile, and while I don't know what Alex found so interesting in the forest, it strikes me as unlikely that his first instinct (being pre-MH) would be to drag Jay and a camera along.
