I believe one of the TTA videos (the one that showed Brian in the car) had audio that may have been "come here".

Alex: Come here. Just come here.

Oh, hey, Advocate does take place in a car. I never noticed before.

...Did anyone ever investigate the audio on Advocate or did we just conclude it sounded like slowed down and reversed speech?

Is it my French-studying that made me originally typo that TTA entry as Avocat?

Maybe Slender Man was the kid that went missing!

Random theory I don't even necessarily agree with: Slendy isn't necessary "evil" but is kidnapping children and hanging them from trees to mimic the behavior of the villagers. Similar to how he mimics human attire with his suit (possibly speech as well in the entry where Jay goes to Slenderland) he is just trying to fit in and do what everyone else does.

Sweet fucking Christ. This is the best theory for the Operator ever.

Haven't seen this theory speculated before, figure this could be worth noting.

Crazy theory time:
Maybe the Ark has the power somehow to cure someone of Slendy-sickness? Or at least keep him at bay or stop him from stalking you?

Assuming that totheark = Masky = Tim, this might explain why totheark is so adamant about Jay leading him there. Perhaps Tim had this incurable cough/illness that noone knew the cause of until the Operator started showing up at Alex's MH shoots. Tim does some research on Alex/the Operator/whatever and then finds out about the Ark, which has curative properties. Tim decides to go after the Ark, except he doesn't know where it is. All he knows is that it's linked to the Operator somehow, who in turn is linked to Alex.

Then Jay starts posting the Entries and Tim becomes convinced that he'll lead him to Alex, who in turn will somehow lead him to the Ark. Tim dons the Mask, and the rest becomes history.

I'm still hazy what Alex has to do with it though. Though I'm thinking that while Alex and Jay know about the Operator, maybe only Tim knows about the Ark. And considering that Alex's motives seem more Operator-centric (destroying him, escaping him, serving him, whatever), a clash of interests may have ensued somehow
________

Edited to explain the safe area-convict trials dissonance:

Maybe the forest itself was blessed (probably due to the influence of the Ark), but the drawback was that it was frequented by monstrous beast like the Operator? Or even better: what if the Operator was guarding the Ark?

this might be a completely unfounded idea (and im sorry if someone said this already; i read through all the pages and didn't catch it), but maybe the boy was distantly related to Alex somehow? I'm kind of leaning towards the idea that Alex intended to hurt J before the video cut off, but what if he showed him a really old, dilapidated headstone with the name '____ Kralie', or maybe a headstone with his mother's maiden name on it, or whatever.
They may have burnt the tree the boy's dismembered body was on, but in the villager's eyes he was probably the only 'innocent' soul to die there and was thus given a marker. But again, it's just an idea i had. ><;

My question in all of this is why Tim?

I mean, really. There were at least three other people (Seth, Sarah, and Brian) involved in the filming of Marble Hornets. Why was it Tim that ended up as (the only confirmed) Masky? Why did he get Slendersickness and nobody else (that we know of) did?

I say all this because I'm wondering if the story Alex tells in #38 might somehow link back to Tim.

I've been pushing the theory that the Operator's effects on people are unpredictable. With Tim, it was the Mask/sickness. Brian seemed to have fallen off the face of the Earth, despite his house becoming a hub of activity. Jay just had the memory blackouts. Seth got "attacked" in the boiler rooms and it's unknown what happened to him (I think he's TTA, but that's just me). And Sarah is MIA.

That his mind was once human would take away a bit. That fact that he's such an alien horror is part of the fun. For all we know he's doing this just to see how humans work, and were he is from, its not lethal. Which is far more disturbing than some human turned monster. That means at one point, he was just like us.

I dunno, ironically the fact that we've bandied the "Slender Man = Eldritch Abomination" theory around here so much makes that viewpoint somewhat less exciting to me in a "Malevolent Omnipotence Is Boring" kind of way. I did get a tiny little split-second thrill however when I watched this entry then tried to connect the Operator --> convicts-tied-to-trees" dots in my mind...

Obviously this is a YMMV issue. I can still buy into the Operator being a Blue And Orange type of being, but wouldn't it be an interesting wrinkle if his Uncanny Valley appeal did stem from some secret long-lost morsel of humanity?

I'm not saying he's an Eldric Horror, only that's he extremely other. Like the aliens in Blind Sight.

Ahh, that makes sense (though I've never seen Blind Sight).
I agree that the Operator's suspiciously supernatural otherness would be a given at this point in the series, I just take issue with so many people who think that said otherness automatically makes him Cthulhu in a suit or something. (Nyarlathotep?)

I do like your take on things though, I guess I just feel that in the event the Operator's origin did involve him being human once, that wouldn't necessarily detract from his overall creepiness. But again, that's just what I personally believe.

Slenderman Origin

In regards to the whole demystification of the Slenderman origin, I don't believe Slenderman to be a ghost of the woods. I think that his form is a physical manifestation of the tortured souls in the woods, not the actual souls themselves. Almost like how in Steven King's It, The Monster appears as what we fear, but it's power is ultimately greater than the image it's appearing as.

Considering that his twitter wasn't updated when this came up... Is it possible that J didn't upload this? That it's TTA aping his style?

I'm pretty much certain that it is Jay who uploaded this Entry. Since when did TTA explain his last upload in that much detail -eentry 37-?

It's taken Jay anywhere from 3-4 days to update the twitter with a video link. I say on that fifth day you can speculate on the uploader, until then it's nothing unusual.
