The Slander Man posts gossipy stuff on Topix about people.

All I see are trees.

Also, could this be merged with the Entry #38 thread?

Also wanted to put in here that Alex seems to be wearing the same shirt that he is in Entry #42 underneath the (black and blue) hoodie. Someone mentioned it on the #42 thread, but it should be mentioned here too.

Given the discussion of #49, I thought it was probably a good idea to reopen the discussion of this entry. Basically many are suggesting that the meeting Alex plans in #49 is Entry #38. I suggest we use this thread to debate that.

Supporting the notion:
-Alex and Jay don't speak to each other for most of the walk through the park. This may suggest that the video takes place after the two "break up".
-Alex is, for the lack of a better phrase, acting really freaking weird. It just seemed strange, initially, but given more recent entries we need to consider whether it was caused by Operator influence.
-It's somewhat implied that Alex may have attacked Jay as he was changing tapes; he starts walking over to him as soon as his guard is down.

Against the notion:
-Although they don't speak much, at one point Jay asks if Alex wants him to hold the camera. This suggests that they are using one camera between them, which again suggests a degree of collaboration. This would imply that Jay and Alex have yet to "break up", which means that the video must PRECEDE #49.
- Alex isn't wearing his glasses, and he very clearly picks up his glasses after murdering Bruce in 49. Furthermore we can see that he's wearing them in the car on the way back.

I immediately thought this when I saw 38 again.
WeŽll surely see what happened next soon. And as I said before, it wonŽt be pretty.

Sorry for reviving an old thread, but I noticed something while rewatching entry #38 as a part of full entry #50 watching experience.

From 0:32 till 0:45 when J gets tired of filming what's in front of him we see some guy captured on film.

I'm quite sure it's not Alex because he's in front of J at that moment, I think. Also guy seems to be wearing a black jacket instead of Alex's blue hoodie, and I don't think the lighting can darken colors that much.

Although the guy seems to walk too casually and carelessly to be spying on anyone...

Has anyone else noticed this guy in this thread?

That is Jay. Alex is holding the camera at that point. Jay even says "Want me to take the camera?"

I don't know if this was talked to death already, but since I hadn't posted here before Entry 50, I'd like to point out one of the real concerns I have with the story thus far, as some of you have. I patched a bunch of these quotes via copy/paste, so forgive me if they're out of order or attributed to the wrong people (if credit isn't being given where credit is due, please tell me and I'll fix the post).

Is anyone else uneasy with the direction the story is going? I don't think that Marble Hornets needs a long brick of demystifying exposition about the Slenderman's origins.

I agree. A backstory kills the "fear of the unknown" vibe, so now Slendy's actually gonna have to do something to be scary again. Besides standing there menacingly.

I'm nervous about it too. I also think it's kind of weird that they are moving into the missing children mythos territory. I'm not opposed to it, this entry is just really different from the others, and I'm still adjusting to all of the exposition I just received. I'm cautiously optimistic given their track record, however.

The funny thing is, I was just about to praise Marble Hornets in the TT vs MH thread for using an understated 'show, don't tell' method of storytelling, and for how they use tone and setting as a substitute for specific detail. I don't need to know that his real name is Kid D. Diddler and that he's from the Pedostar system and that he's a Lt. Colonel in the Hebephile Spacemarine Corps.

Except that now they basically did just that Sad. He's the ghost of a murderer, or a child rapist, or perhaps a murdering child rapist that got tied to a magic tree :/

Or the thing that preyed on people left out to die. Or a folkloric attempt to explain away uncomfortable events, the way Hansel & Gretel supposedly came from infanticide during the Great Famine, and child-eating witch Baba Yaga's house from food storage sheds that stood on stilts in hopes winter predators wouldn't raid them.

(In case it's not obvious, I'm hoping against an obvious Freddy reveal...)

I agree with this. Slendy didn't have to be human he could have been in that area preying on the people in the trees then one day a child enters his part of the woods. Slendy does what he does to children and the villagers decide to stop hanging people up so that slenderman will move on. Alex might have spent the past couple year just tracking Slendy's trail through history and was just showing Jay that he had been in this area before.

So basically, the Operator is

a) a criminal from the 1800s who was stretched out via some sort of torture method involving trees, who was then burned (getting rid of his face) who lived forever and ever

b) a ghost of the above

There's a third option that pretty much everyone who's bitching about the Operator's origins being demystified is missing:

c) the entity that caused the trees that grow so fast. The villagers thought that the killings of these criminals were in honour of God. Not so. The sacrifices were for the sake of someone far worse. The tree method may have been ineffectual at stretching the victims out into the image of the Operator, but the intention was there. And watching them starve was delicious enough... at least, until the Operator had built up enough strength that it didn't need to wait for them to bring it sacrifices any more.

I agree people are jumping to quickly to the idea that Slendy had to have been human there are alot of ways to look at the story Alex told.

This is, by far, the one concern I have over the storytelling aspect of this story. I'm hoping so much that it doesn't come down to "OMG, Slendy's a ghost criminal from the 1800s coming to haunt us, FOR REVENGE!", because seriously, that puts MH about 2 steps away from Scooby Doo. I don't fear a ghost that wants revenge because people in the past were dicks. I fear a supernatural being with limitless power that wants to mind control you/eat you/mess you up somehow (not sure yet), AND THERE'S NOTHING THAT COULD HAVE PREVENTED THIS. That's scary. Otherwise I'm left thinking, "Gee, if people in the past weren't like that, this whole thing wouldn't have been a problem; oh well, guess we're stuck with ghost criminal Slendy."

What I'm really hoping for is that Alex is lying about this story, making the whole thing up. We've seen from all the newer entries that Alex has ZERO problems lying to anyone, and long as it suits his/Slendy's goals,

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
perhaps even lying about the "everyone's gone" video, as potentially revealed in Entry 51

If Alex was lying about all of this, then there's still a chance that Slendy is not related to the whole burning criminals on trees thing. Or at least, if he's related, I'd rather him not be a ghost of one of the criminals.

Anyone recall a date from the 1800s in the date flash in enttry 37?

This is one of the bits that might conflict with my theory, unless Alex is TTA (or related to TTA), and the date in enttry 37 was a red herring.

In either case, I'm really interested to see how this pans out.

EDIT: Just thought about it some more, and I realized, there's no concrete evidence that enttry 37 was posted by TTA. Alex could have hacked into Jay's account and posted it, and still not be TTA.
