About 2am our time.

So, is she back on the chat yet (I can't get on there; University proxy server won't allow it)? And if so, have we solved the problem of determing AI Man's purpose? She said she'd be back in about an hour.

Is this our guy?

"When the Matrix was first built there was a man born inside that had the ability to change what he wanted, to remake the Matrix as he saw fit. It was this man that freed the first of us and taught us the secret of the war; control the Matrix and you control the future."

Maybe his purpose is to show Beth the truth?

beth's logs

Just checked out Beth's logs.
Anyone know where they went and why?

19:44 What a crazy afternoon! I spent it traveling the world, seriously! As far as I can tell (my notes are rather rough), I began by traveling to 48º55N 2º24E from there I went to 46º31N 30º42E. After that I went to: 29 º52N 31º20E, 59º56N 10º44E, 31º47N 35º13E, 44º25N 26º6E, 21ºN 57ºE, 18º29N 69º54W, 44º48N 20º28E, 43º7N 131º55E. It was a quick tour, no more than a few minutes in each spot. It was very overwhelming and I'm not quite sure of the point. His translocation abilities are in tact, that was proven from the first stop. I assume that I just got so excited about it that he felt the need to continue. He seemed to get excited with every new stop. It wasn't until I started to get rather frustrated that we stopped. I've received a lot of help and advice while I was on the road. If I didn't get to you (and you are reading this), I'm sorry. There was just so much going on. I do want to hear your ideas though, so please email me or get me on one of the various chat clients. "My Friend" has wandered off. I didn't see or hear him leave. I was wrapping up food and putting the cooler in the car and when I turned around he was gone. I trust that he'll return shortly. I hope that he will. At least it will give me time to figure out some additional tests. There has got to be an easy way to narrow in on his abilities and his purpose

Nice of them to give us some more time to try and figure this out. Wink

EDIT: I wonder if he's gone off to do some Wongmo-esque meditation?

What would be the purpose of an AI that could make temporary changes to small areas?

I think that is the key. I'm asking her about a few other things to give possible light to my idea... which is that he is the person who moves people who are reprogrammed. IE, he can possibly stop time and manipulate reality at will in order to move the newly altered people into place. He doesn't need to do it for a long time since he can easily translocate people to new locations.

Communicating this to Beth is one of the hardest things since she is not yet aware of how the world around her "works"... or at least we dont think she is. I'm asking her questions that will eventually lead me to this idea if I get the answers required. She seems talkitive to me when I give her the right questions.

I have to say that I don't agree that AI Man is the 'man born in the Matrix' that Morpheus was talking about; I mean, if Morpheus was going to talk about AI Man, surely he would refer to him as the program that he is, rather than as a human being (unless he somehow gained this legendary/mythological status over time/over subsequent 'reloads'?)
The fact that Morpheus refers to the 'man born in the Matrix' as having been born, and having later died (rather than deleted), seems to suggest (to me at least Wink) that they are not one and the same.
And as far as trusting AI Man goes; well, I would've thought that after his daring rescue of Texel, where he put his own code on the line, would've been enough to convince us that he's one of the good guys.

EDIT: As regards the AI Man is the same as the 'man born in the Matrix' theory, I just remembered that it was brought up before, and shot down that time too - there is a thread about it, but I couldn't find it Confused . Anyway, one of the main points against the theory that was raised, if memory serves, was the fact that Thomas A. Anderson used to work at Metacortechs (before being ominously transferred...); why would the Matrix, or the Architect, have Mr. Anderson appear as a normal ordinary human in one version of the Matrix, but as the One in a later version? Plus, the fact that his body wouldn't have survived that long; the time period between the two was probably significant. Anyway, the thread I mentioned probably sums it up far better than I can; if only I could find it!

Sh*t! That would've been a great question - "yeah, Beth, about this Anderson guy that got transferred..."
And we get everybody to ask her the same question, over, and over, and over
This is what I look like right now, without sleep: Shocked and I still don't want to go to bed...

No, not sarcasm; I honestly would have liked to have known what her response would have been (assuming she actually answered the question instead of avoiding it like she did so many others). It would've also been interesting to see what she thought of James Avery's 'picture' in the personnel directory; why does she think it's so messed up? So many questions, so little time...

No problem; I think that makes several of us who look like this: Shocked (and that's not just because we got to communicate with our main protagonist; how often does that happen in a novel or a film?)
