I dont recall seeing Mulligan with 5 spades, comp running too slow atm to check.

But i highly doubt they made the other 40 odd cards that were not used in the puzzle, as they are'homemade' props.

So the chances of seeing a reused card are actually quite high.

You have to look carefully from 2:04 to 2:14 (this is the first hand, not the second).

That is a valid point about it possibly not being a full deck. However, they show enough different cards for me to believe that they have a full deck (there are services that will make custom decks and you supply the image for the back of the cards). Either way, since this is an easter egg type thing and not a clue (in my opinion) there is no point in worrying about it that much. I have a feeling these questions will be answered when the gold is found.

Bravo, team! I hate to be the guy that says "wait a second..." but I am having a difficult time figuring out how you have the captain on the B train and Mulligan on the D train starting out...At the end of episode 3, the captain ends oto the LEFT of Mulligan. I took this to mean that the captain is actually on the D train, not the B. (Since on any subway map the B train runs EAST of the D once you get into Brooklyn (aye, and that's RIGHT!).

Can you offer an explanation?

Thanks!

And the dealer also has the 5 spades at the start. So appears 3 times.

@joemanfro im with you having the Captain on D line, but i guess being ccl28's solution threadwe should stick with his interpretation here and see where it goes.

I got the trains from the following:

Both Captain and Mulligan are on the yellow line going east.

Captain says "FORKed journalistic tongue" - they are at the fork where the D and Q split

Mulligan then says "that's RIGHT" - Mulligan goes right at the fork

Backtracking...

I was just wondering...the fact that they show particular boxes in the Larry King Episode, means nothing?

With Fafa and Mario (on the blue line, on top ("on the right track")
and Mulligan and Captain on the orange line

Crothers and Black Tom moving around. In and out of Yellow and Blue.

Aren't we supposed to be leaving the Columbus Circle location using trains or mass transit based upon the colors they are in? Or at least using the map in the background (which to me, looks like it pretty much stays in Queens?)

At the beg. of Episode 5, Isn't the Captain burning 2 Queens?

This is why this puzzle to me is hard to crack. I don't like to infer too much.

Backtracking indeed...

@mich...

I think you're absolutely right. In my solution, I have each color corresponding to a different train, with each member staying on that train for the duration of the episode (save for tom, who switches from the yellow Q train to the A/C at the end). I too believe the crew splits up until early episode 6, when tom states "when our paths are meant to become one" and the whole crew is back on the ship together. My route does NOT take them to Queens. (Which lines up with your "burning the queens" clue :p, so fret not.)

The catch is that not all trains go through columbus circle. In fact, NEITHER yellow train goes through Columbus Circle. So how do we interpret this? Well, the captain and mulligan's clues seem to imply they start in Columbus Circle, while Crothers and Tom start nearby. Every line spoken by one of the pirates appears to be a clue to where they are along their own track. While I have no idea if my solution is right, here is a fairly thorough analysis that may help you start on the right foot. I'll stop at episode 3 though so no one gets any crazy ideas :p

NOTE that while it seems crazy to just match up everything the pirates say to a spot on the subway map, the possibilities for matches are actually EXTREMELY limited when you take into account the fact that they HAVE to be on the colored subway line of the pirate. Also, that they should have some direction and not simply be scattered about. Keeping this in mind, things line up rather nicely.

STARTING POINTS: the first line each pirate says in the episode.
Captain: Columbus Circle on the orange B/D. (Where do ya keep yer treasure hoard, Larry the King??? Larry King airs on CNN, which is right in Columbus Circle.)
Mulligan: Columbus Circle on the orange B/D. (I'm on TV!! I'm on TV!! Same reason as the captain)
Crothers: Times Square on the yellow Q/N/R. (Spectacles is like face glasses… The spectacle he is referring to is Times Square – quit a spectacle no?)
Tom: Astoria Ditmars blvd in Queens on the yellow Q/N. (This is where his throwing star lands – the first action tom takes in the episode).

THE PATHS: the pirates' lines in order of statement.
Captain:
1) Rockefeller Center on the orange B/D. (I think YOU'RE getting old – the Rockefeller statue.
2) W 4 st. Washington Square on the orange B/D. (We are now joined…by Mario & fafa (the blue ACE line)
3) Broadway/Lafayette street on the orange B/D just before the fork in south manhattan. (FORKED journalist tongue – where the orange line forks.
4) On the D train traveling south of the Atlantic Ave cluster into Brooklyn. (At the end of the episode, he is beneath the blue line, previously above. Also, he has switched LEFT of mulligan, who we now can assume has been on the B train.

Mulligan:
1)Rockefeller Center on the orange B (Why'd they cancel Firefly? FOX network cancelled firefly, with a studio right in Rock Center. Lines up with the captain.
2)Crossing the Manhattan railroad bridge on the orange B. (We DID steal it from glove and boots. Why can't we say steal?? Steal = steel = the steel manhattan railroad bridge.
3)On the B train traveling south of the Atlantic Ave cluster into Brooklyn. (At the end of the episode, he too is beneath the blue line, previously above. He is now RIGHT of the captain, who is on the D line.

Crothers:
1)Also crosses the manhattan railroad bridge on the yellow N/Q (why can't we say STEEL…) since the R doesn't cross it, we know he has not been on the R.
2)Since he ends left of Tom in the end of the episode, and also since he is close enough to the captain to have his hat lit on fire, we assume he is on the N and Tom on the Q. He too is traveling south into Brooklyn below the Atlantic Ave cluster.

Tom:
1)Since Tom plays a relatively small part in the episode, we can only assume by process of elimination that he gets on the Q at Astoria Ditmars in Queens, rides it through ALL of manhattan, until he ultimately crosses the manhattan railroad bridge with the gang and reaches the Atlantic Ave cluster.
2)He begins traveling south on the Q alongside Mulligan on the orange B, and then transfers to the Blue line. How does he do this? He either "ninjas", or takes the S line connection. Either way, we know he ENDS the episode on the A/C line traveling east into Brooklyn/Queens.

IMPORTANT THINGS TO NOTE:
1)Mario and Fafa are on the ACE line until Tom transfers to it. Their screen remains BELOW the rest of the crew for the majority of the episode (while they are all in manhattan, and through the cross of the manhattan railroad bridge.)
2)Once they cross the bridge and get to the Atlantic Ave cluster in Brooklyn, the crew's orange and yellow lines shift BELOW the blue AC line. The repositioning of Mario & Fafa's screen and their line "how did we get up here? Is this some sort of clue?" Is an indicator of this switch.
3)The line "we're on the right TRACK" is not to say "the BLUE line is the RIGHT line", because there is no single right line, the entire crew splits up. There are FOUR "right" lines. Rather, the word "track" is simply another clue-in to the fact that this is an episode about the subway. Like "mind the gap" and "bloomin sandwich commercials".
4) I take the "Port of Cortland" bit as a clue-in to the fact that there are four trains, each with a crew member on it. Believing we are to TRAVEL to the Jackson Heights station in Queens is a red herring. It is simply acting as a key. It tells us that for the remainder of the series: "port" means subway station, "dock" means train, and for this episode there are four trains each with a crew member on it (4 trains, 4 of us in the crew)

I've cooked another one of these babies up for episode 5 using BUSSES, but I'll refrain from offering too many details. At some point we all need to do our own thing if we want any chance at the gold  Consider this my contribution!
